PRESIDENT’S INVITATION CONFERENCE SPONSORS

This year we have changed venues for the conference by holding it at the stunning Adelaide Oval. The program is shaping up to be one of our best, showcasing many diff erent and diverse opinions within perioperative nursing.

Without the support of our Health Trade Partners, a conference of this size and low cost to members would not be possible. I wish to especially thank:

• StrykerGold Sponsor

• Calvary HealthcareSilver Sponsor

• Lohmann & RauscherImaging SolutionsDefries Industries andMedtronicHaines MedicalMultigateBronze Sponsors

for their support for perioperative nursing in SA.

Registration for the conference is now open. As members you are able to access all of this educational and networking content at an aff ordable cost. Encourage your colleagues and friends to attend with you, if they join SAPNA they can also receive the great benefits you currently enjoy.

I look forward to seeing many of you in October.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Globally renowned as an advocate for sustainable peace and a valuable resource in countering violent extremism, Gill Hicks is widely considered one of the world’s most thought-provoking, powerful and life-affi rming speakers.

Her devotion to making a personal greater contribution and positive diff erence to the urgency of building peace was realised when she was made permanently injured in the London bombings on July 7th, 2005.

Her ‘lived experience’ -- from survival to rehabilitation as a double amputee -- created a clear demarcation from all she had known before the bombings: at the helm of some of the UK’s most prestigious and respected institutions, including Publishing Director of the architecture, design and contemporary culture magazine, Blueprint, Director of the Dangerous Minds design consultancy, and Head Curator at the Design Council, along with being one of the first women to be invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Her ‘second life’ is built on what she describes as a series of conscious choices, mindfulness and being aware of the importance of the moment. Gill shares what she has learned about herself, humanity and the extraordinary and inherent ability to rise in the wake of adversity.

British born Georgie Carroll is a Multi Award winning stand-up comic and regular panelist on Australian Comedy TV. (Have You Been Paying Attention? Hughesy We Have A Problem, Talking About Your Generation, Show Me the Movie).

Formerly an Intensive Care and Emergency Nurse, Georgie now lives in Adelaide with her husband and two children.

Since 2009 Georgie has been an unstoppable comedic force on the Australian club circuit as MC and Headline.

She is a festival favorite for many, selling out shows in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Edinburgh and Melbourne Comedy Festivals. She has won numerous awards over her 5 solo shows and has been televised in performances for the ABCs Comedy up late and the coveted Melbourne International Comedy Festivals Oxfam Gala.

Georgie’s combination of Nationalities, home life and hospital are the 24/7 boot camp that have nurtured Georgie’s naturally funny bones. Her bluntness and charm coupled with a razor-sharp wit, give Georgie a broad-spectrum appeal that can be put into any room, with any line-up, and shine.

Dorinda Hafner has a fascinating background! She comes from a family of legal hawks, doctors and healthcare workers. From an early professional training in London and work as a registered nursing sister, obstetrics nurse, ophthalmic nurse, optician and, believe it or not, a model, she is a breath of fresh air. She’s a head-spinning combination of many things. Be in her company for more than a minute and you wonder what your life was like before you met her!

Dorinda is now more widely known as an international TV celebrity Chef, actor, businesswoman and best-selling author with 5 TV series and 8 books to her credit, (2 of her TV series won awards and 2 of her books also won international awards). Her shows reached over 40 countries and 2 of her books have also been translated into Dutch & Portuguese.

Dorinda has received numerous awards namely: “African Australian Woman of the Year”, “Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Leadership & Advocacy for African Women & their communities in SA” & in August 2012 she was awarded the title of “Living Legend” at the Opera House, Sydney and Prime Minister Julia Gillard named her as “A People of Australia Ambassador”.

For 10yrs Dorinda was a weekly TV food presenter with Bert Newton on channel Ten’s Good Morning Australia. There’s much more to her list of credits than cooking and food anthropology.

She can regale you with tales of her life. She’s spellbinding. You’ll need tissues on the tables as she’s been known to have everyone crying with laughter!
