Whygeocells?Thecellularconfinementsystemwasdevelopedinthelate1970saspartofascientificresearchofPrestoProductCo.with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This method wasusedasapioneeringprojectinoperationDesertStormdur-ingthePersianGulfWar. Cellularconfinementsystemimprovestheperformanceofsuchcohesionlessmaterialsasgravelorsand.Byconfin-ingthematerial,thegeosyntheticstructureenablesalsotheproperdensityofcompaction. The main elements of this system are open sectionsfilled with various infill materials. This infill improvementhelps to eliminate the need for more costly, complicatedstructural elements or expensive techniques. Cellular con-finementsystemprovidesoptimalsolutionsforpoorcarry-ingcapacityofsoilandatthesametimecost-effectivesoilstabilizationresults. CellularconfinementsystemhasbeenpopularonthePolishmarketasgeocellsorgeokrata,fabricatedusingme-dium-densitypolyethylene(MDPE)orhigh-densitypolyeth-ylene(HDPE)whichisclassifiedasnon-hazardousproduct.Itsoperatingtemperaturerangesfrom–50°Cto+80°C,itsmeltingpointcanvaryfrom+125°Cto+132°C. Theplastic and itsproduct itself arenot regardedasdangeroustohealth.Also,thankstoitsinsolubilityinwaterandchemical resistance (also insoil) it is regardedasnotpresentingarisktotheenvironment.

Perforation benefits•perforationsandatexturedsurfaceincreasethe frictionanglebetweenaggregateinfillandthecellwall, generatingbetteraggregatelockupandgreateroverall loaddistribution,•perforationsfacilitatelateralcell-to-celldrainage ofexcessivegroundandsurfacewater,reducingthe negativeeffectsoftraffickingoversaturatedsoils.

InstallationLightweightsectionsaredeliveredincollapsedformandareeasilyexpanded.Theycanbefastandeasilyexpand-edinanuncomplicatedmanner.Infillcanbeplacedman-ually,withsimpletoolsorconstructionequipment. Geocell is installed using rectangular stretcher frames–theiraimistoexpandthesuitablydimensionedsec-tions.Stretcher frames used in installation are neces-sary to obtain proper section geometry. They are used only during infilling and are designed for multiple use.Individual geocell sections canbeeasily connectedus-ing versatile clip arms, staples and anchors. For moredemanding constructions some other accessories arealsousedincludingtendons,anchoringsystems,etc.Suitablydimensionedgeocellsectionsareshippedtotheconstructionsiteintheircollapsedform,bandedandse-curedwithstretchfoilonpallets. Sectionsarefoldedinsuchamannerthatiseasytounfoldandexpandthematsite.

Flexible design solutionGeocell constructions can be easily adapted to awide range of design requirements and site con-ditions.Theversatilityof thesystemresults fromits inherent flexibility, unique load deformationbehavior and suitability for awide rangeof infillmaterialsandfoundationsoils.

Natural colored facingStandardwallsectionsareavailablewithgreen, tan, orblackfaciacolorstocreateablendingwithnaturalenvironments. Special facia colors can be manufac-turedtomeetuniqueaestheticrequirements. To meet up your individual expectations we have prepared polyethylene which is ultraviolet-light-stabilized to resist color fading and increasesystemdurability andquality performance to levelsmeetingtypicalengineeringrequirements.

The cell wall structure shows improved lateral loadspreadingastheresultofincreasedwall-infillinterfacefric-tion;Theblockscreateaflexiblestructurebridgesystemofincreased stiffness. The structuralbridge results in signifi-cantimprovementsinthelong-termperformanceoftheloadsupportsystemandhelpstoreducethethicknessofstruc-turalsupportelements.
