They visit the farm, on 25th Street North about two blocks from Phillips, to learn about agriculture, food and good nutrition. Some Phillips students have been to the farm, but the organization wants every student to visit. The school is a close neighbor, and what students learn at the farm ties into science and health curriculums, Brigham said. Many schools throughout the area have visited the farm, with about 1,600 students visiting this year, he said. BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Jones Valley Urban Farm won $10,000 in an Internet contest, money that will spent to

expand the Seed 2 Plate program to all students at Phillips Academy, Grant Brigham, the farm's executive

director, said.

Seed 2 Plate is an educational program where students learn about agriculture, food and nutrition. They visit the

farm, on 25th Street North about two blocks from Phillips, to learn about agriculture, food and good nutrition.

Some Phillips students have been to the farm, but the organization wants every student to visit. The school is a

close neighbor, and what students learn at the farm ties into science and health curriculums, Brigham said.

Many schools throughout the area have visited the farm, with about 1,600 students visiting this year, he said.

Cultivate, a new wine brand, sponsored the contest, a monthly event on its website, www.cultivatewines.com,

for nonprofit organizations. Each month the company donates at least 10 percent of sales, or $25,000, to

nonprofits supporting education and basic human needs, according to its website.

Organizations entering the contest must describe what they do and how the money will be used. They also must

submit a short video explaining why the project should be funded. Votes are cast on the Cultivate website.
