PTA
Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held
at 6pm on Thursday 12th October at
KS1. This is an opportunity for parents and
family members to shape the future of the
school PTA by volunteering to help at events
or take a more senior role. All welcome and
we will try and organise a crèche facility if
there is demand so as many families as
possible can attend and build on the great
work done by the PTA so far.

PE KIT
Please can we remind everyone that all children need to have their PE kit with them every day. Red Alverton PE t-shirts can be purchased from
the school office at £2.50 each.
We have placed another big order of red PE t-shirts, including some bigger sizes. These should be with us after the
half term holiday.
Thank You.

Thank you to the parents who attended the NSPCC ‘Keeping Safe Online’ presentation on Tuesday.
I would like to draw your attention to the ‘NetAware’ app that parents can use to provide more information about apps their children may be using.
Parents can also seek advice from the NSPCC website: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/, or call the O2 and NSPCC Online Safety Helpline on 0808 800 5002, or pop into your local O2 store for help from a Guru.
Pupils successfully attend a Change 4 Life event at Northallerton School on Monday, and 5 of our KS2 children are attending a Cyclocross event on Friday.

Alverton CP School is backing Mrs Burns as she ‘Braves the Shave’ to raise money for George. Here is George’s story:
“George is 6 months old. He has Plagiocephaly. This is a deformity
known as flat head syndrome. Lots of babies suffer with this, but most cases
correct themselves as they grow. Georges is quite severe, and
worsening. All four quarters of his head are affected. The back of his skull is flat, and bulges are appearing to the left of the back of his head, and to the
right of his forehead. This is now starting to distort his face. It's not too noticeable at the moment, but over
time it will be. His ears are out of line, which as he grows can cause glue ear. He also has Torticollis, which is to do
with the neck muscles. Without treatment he'll obviously look different to other kids, which as we know can cause allsorts of heartache. And he could suffer with eye and/or ear problems. The NHS won't fund the £1,950 helmet that helps correct the deformity. We have to go private. They see it as cosmetic, and
would rather treat the other problems as they occur! They say there isn't enough proof that the helmets, known as Starbands, actually work. Georges mum, Hayley, is in a support group online with other mums that have affected
children. They all say it was the best thing they ever did. There are before and after pics, the Starbands DO work! Their children's heads massively improved in shape. The proof is there. We'd like one for Gorgeous George. We've scraped up the £750 deposit, so the Starband is ordered, and he's having it fitted on October 6th. We're so grateful to everyone
that has already donated on our Justgiving page, and massively to Tracy for doing the head shave to enable us to pay the rest of the money for the Starband.”
The ‘Brave the Shave’ event will happen on Monday 30th October, 2:30pm in the KS2 Hall Parents are very welcome to come and watch! There will be cakes and raffle tickets on sale too - all proceeds will go
towards raising money for George.
Raffle tickets are on sale now - £1 a strip. If you would like to buy some, please either speak to
Mrs Burns or money can be sent into school in a sealed, named envelope with the quantity of raffle tickets you would like to purchase clearly written.
If anyone has any prizes they would like to donate to the raffle these can also be brought to
the school offices.
If you would like to sponsor Mrs Burns please find a sponsor form attached, monies can either be given
directly to Mrs Burns or to the office.
Thank you so much for your support.
