Dr. Fredinand Frederick Henri Moissan28 September 1852 - 20 February 1907

Natural moissanite was discovered in 1893 by prominent French scientist Dr Henri Moissan, who later became a Nobel Prize winner. Dr Moissan began studying geological fragments of a meteorite taken from a meteor crater (Canyon Diablo) located in Arizona. In these fragments, he discovered minute quantities of shimmering material. After extensive research, Dr Moissan concluded that this material was a new mineral, silicon carbide. In 1905, well-known Tiffany & Co. gem expert and mineralogist, George Kunz suggested the jewel be named moissanite in Dr Moissan’s honour.

What is Evermore Moissanite? Moissanite, also known by its chemical name, silicon carbide (SiC), is a naturally occurring mineral found in minimal quantities or as minute particles in the earth. The rarity of natural moissanite crystals large enough for jewellery prohibits their use. For years, scientists tried to re-create this extraordinarily brilliant material. Only recently, through the power of advanced technology, has a way been developed to produce in a laboratory colourless (DEF) Evermore Moissanite. A unique and beautiful blend of art and science. Is Evermore Moissanite natural or man-made? Moissanite does occur in nature; however, the crystals are tiny and rare. They are so scarce that enough gem-quality natural moissanite does not exist to create a pair of solitaire earrings. Today, beautiful lab-created Evermore Moissanite gems are available through the proprietary and patented thermal growth process. The growth process is very involved, technology intense and expensive all factors which prevent mass production of Evermore Moissanite. Who purchases Evermore Moissanite? Both men and women wear jewellery set with Evermore Moissanite all over the world. Evermore Moissanite is tough, durable and resistant to abrasion and chipping. Like all other gemstones, Evermore Moissanite is not indestructible. Safely clean Evermore Moissanite jewellery by using a jewellery ultrasonic cleaner or commercial (non-acid based) jewellery cleaner. An acid may cause damage to Evermore Moissanite gems. Is Evermore Moissanite a brand of diamond, synthetic or simulated diamond? No. Evermore Moissanite is not a substitute for diamond scientifically, chemically or emotionally. Evermore Moissanite is a unique and colourless gem (chemical composition: SiC) that stands on its own and has superb fire and brilliance as compared to any other gem and offers the value, quality and fashion that women demand.


DURABILITY: Gemstones are measured on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, which assesses a gem’s ability to withstand surface scratching. On this scale, Evermore Moissanite scores a 9.25, a very good score that makes it one of the hardest substances on earth, and very suitable for everyday wear as an engagement ring. Evermore Moissanite will test positive for a diamond when testing with a thermal conductivity diamond tester. BRILLIANCE: Evermore Moissanites exhibits a different kind of brilliance than diamonds do, as their faceting pattern is different. The fiery, rainbow flashes emitted by Evermore Moissanites are beloved, especially in sunlight. Evermore Moissanite has a refractive range from 2.65 – 2.69, which is higher than a diamond. How does Evermore Moissanite compare to diamond? Evermore Moissanite may initially look like a diamond. However, they are unique gems with different physical, optical and chemical properties than diamond. While diamond’s chemical composition is carbon (C) and has a long association with love and romance; Evermore Moissanite is the mineralogical name for silicon carbide (SiC) and symbolises the perfect indulgence or self-purchase reward for a woman celebrating important personal or professional milestones or achievements. Evermore Moissanite has superior fire and brilliance as compared to other gemstones, including diamond. With nearly 2.4 times the fire of a diamond. How is Evermore Moissanite different from a CZ? Evermore Moissanite and cubic zirconium (or CZ) are very different from each other. While they both are near-colourless, their similarities are limited to colour. Evermore Moissanite has unique chemical, optical and physical properties which easily identifies and separates it from CZ. Cubic zirconium is widely synthesised by many companies, for use as an inexpensive diamond look-alike or simulant. By comparison, Evermore Moissanite is not a diamond simulant, but rather a unique gem, unlike any other.
