Landforms

• Everglades has many different landforms

• The Saw palmetto palm tree that covers most of the Everglades has sharp thorns that can cut you if you’re not careful.

• Some landforms in the Everglades are swamps, marshes, rocklands, and wet lands.

• The Pine Forest is the highest place in the Everglades.

Culture

• People lived there, explored, and visit the Everglades.

• The Tequesta and Calusa were the first Indians to come to the Everglades.

• The Spanish explorers came next looking for gold.

• People now visit the Everglades and nobody lives there.

WATERWAYS

• Everglades has sawgrass marshes, bays, and rivers.

• Water leaving lake Okeeroobe in the wet season forms the Everglades.

• Sawgrass marshes are possible to walk across even in the wet season.

• Florida Bay makes up 1/3 of the Everglades.

Rocks and Minerals

• The Everglades has lots of limestone.

• The Pinelands have a hard rock ground made limestone.

• Limestone is at the bottom of the Everglades.

• The limestone is made up of shells, mud, and sand that hardened over time.
