Exhibition: Our Treasure HousesRunning from Wednesday 1 July to Wednesday 29 July 2015
Taking inspiration from her surroundings, artist Kerri Pratt’s focus will reflect on her childhood experience of growing up in a former mining town in a time when previously thriving centres of industry – collieries, potteries, pipe works and brickworks – were in decline.
Kerri comments: “Acknowledging the fact that we live in an ever-changing landscape, I will be revisiting relics of a past era across the country to inspire paintings full of remnants and traces of Derbyshire’s heritage from the Industrial Revolution.”
No need to book.

Theatre: JoanRunning from Friday 17 July to Saturday 18 July 2015
1420s France - ravaged by war, under occupation from the English, a population divided. 18 year old Joan is a farmer’s daughter, a freedom fighter, and just maybe the original drag king… Dressed as a boy, Joan defies convention and leads her county to freedom, but at what cost?
600 years on, in a world where women ‘dragging up’ as men is distinctly underground, Joan is still ahead of her time. Expect bold new writing combined with a playful and provocative cabaret style in this one-woman show about what it means to stand out, stand up and stand alone.
Joan RETOLD is directed by Lucy Skilbeck, Derby Theatre’s BBC Performing Arts Fellow 2014, and made in association with Milk Presents.

The fourth Conference on Applied Qualitative Research in Psychology will provide a unique opportunity to showcase the benefits of qualitative research in a number of areas of applied psychology.
Invited speaker Dr Michael Larkin, University of Birmingham
Michael Larkin is Senior Research Tutor for Clinical Psychology at the University of Birmingham. Michael has specific interests in the overlapping areas of psychological distress, health and wellbeing, and use of support services. He has contributed to the development of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and was a co-author of the book Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis: Theory, Method, Research (published by Sage in 2009). Michael’s research has applied IPA to explore the experience and
relational context of embodied experiences (e.g. empathy); the experience of ‘loss of control’ (addiction, psychosis, eating disorder, unsuccessful dieting), the service needs of young adults with mental health problems and their families, and people’s experiences of psychological interventions and services. He has an interest in user involvement, particularly as a means of linking experiential evidence to changes in practice. He has explored this through the use of participatory approaches, and particularly experience-based co-design.
Full conference fee: £100
University of Derby Student/Staff fee: £60
