This week’s article discusses some of the more practical aspects of due process. The plaintiff has the burden of proving that Colorado has personal jurisdiction over the defendant at issue. To start with, there must be sufficient allegations in the complaint to demonstrate person jurisdiction, and conclusory allegations will not work, meaning that Personal Jurisdiction Part 2 Alex Wright Attorney At-Law the plaintiff can’t just say that the court has personal jurisdiction over the defendant but rather has to say why. Kyle is the grandson of George and Susie Gertge and Joe and Donna Appelhans and is the great grandson of Melvin Nelson, all of Sterling. The couple is planning an Aug. 30, 2014 wedding at the Fort Collins Country Club and will make their home in Fort Collins. Great Outdoors Colorado (GO- CO), which invests state lottery revenues in outdoor recreation, land conservation and wildlife, will bring its statewide “Listening Tour” to Sterling next month to gather input for its 2015 strategic plan. The Sterling event is only one of 14 interactive sessions planned in communities across the state of Colorado. The event is set to run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 12 at the library, 420 N. 5 th St. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Glock, the Sterling Police Depart- ment's K9, will be receiving a ballistic vest thanks to a nationwide Groupon event that has raised over $335,000 to go towards K9 dogs nationwide. (Courtesy Photo) The Sterling Police Department K9 will be receiving a ballistic vest thanks to a nationwide Groupon Event that has raised over $335,000. The Sterling Police Department is very grateful for this opportunity and to have been selected to receive a ballistic vest for our K9, Glock. Receiving this vest will enhance the safety for Glock and demonstrates the SPD's continued commitment to its K9 program. Seized funds from a past drug investigation were used for the initial start up costs for the Sterling Police Department Canine Program and Glock joined the department of May. The Sterling Police Department also received a grant that helped fund the canine and the canine handler course. The Sterling Police Department Canine Team has been very active and has already made a positive impact. They have located and recovered illegal narcotics, tracked and apprehended wanted criminals and have been involved in several public relation events. The “Occasions” campaign for Groupon Grassroots to outfit police K9’s with bullet and stab protective vests ran February 15 through March 5. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. was the nationwide non-profit organization and charity partner selected by Groupon Grassroots to participate. The online $10 donation suggested interested persons pur- chase a Groupon (a tax deduc- tible donation) through the secure website where all funds were allocated to purchase ballistic vests for our four-legged crime fighters who put their lives on the line for the community and their partners. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. will be providing over 350 law enforcement dogs nationwide with the protective body armor in memory of K9 Rocco of the Pittsburgh Police Department who sacrificed his life in the line of duty in January of 2014. All vests will be embroidered with the sentiment, “In Memory of K9 Rocco, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.” Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. a 501c(3) organization, is still accepting donations through their website: www.vik9s.org and via mail, P.O.
