The Murray Charity Meander is not a race, more a contest of wits, ingenuity & social endurance and is an excellent opportunity for community minded people to raise funds for breast and prostate cancer support services, plus enjoy a week long trip on the magnificent Murray River.

The 2015 Murray Charity Meander attracted a field of 22 boats with participants travelling from Corryong to Echuca. The event drew teams from Sydney, Melbourne, the Hunter region of NSW as well as regional Victoria

Otis Foundation which provides free retreat accommodation for women with breast cancer, received $60,000 to support their 20 facilities including Bendigo, Towong, Thredbo, Goolwa, & Chewton. Our donation will allow The Otis Foundation to continue to expand its accommodation network. Further information is available from www.otisfoundation.org.au.Horizon’s contribution to Otis now exceeds $550,000.

Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia has been allocated funds to provide more oncology nursing scholarships nationally. These will again be co-ordinated through Echuca Regional Health. Fund rasing from the Meander has provided more than 58 scholarships to date.

The event consists of a fleet of tinnies travelling along the length of the Murray in three one week stages over three years. In 2008 we completed our first journey from the alps to the sea. The 2016 Meander will be the 11th event and the middle leg of the ‘4th lap’ of the river. More info is available from www.murraymeander.com.au

There are many mixed teams that participate and we have had three all female teams complete the journey. Whilst all participants enjoy an excellent week on the river, the main object of the event is to raise funds to assist Breast Cancer & Prostate Cancer Support Services. Each team is expected to seek sponsorship and raise funds during the year, as well as during the event.

A sponsorship package can be customised and could include billing on all media releases, logos on all event clothing, logos on all point of sale and display banners, billing at event functions, logos throughout official event guide and more.

Since the first Meander in 2006 we have raised more than $1,200,000We would love to have your support on board this year. The sponsorship packages mentioned on the last page are indicative only.

Coverage of the 2015 event was well supported by local & regional media including ABC Radio. Pre & post event press coverage in publications through the McPherson Media Group created local and greater regional awarness. Local radio in Echuca provided event interviews. WIN TV was again a strong supporter of the event with coverage through their extensive Victorian network.

The event has been featured on The Great Australian Doorstep travel TV show hosted by Peter Spida Everitt and has featured in The Weekly Times and RM Williams Outback Magazine.

Local publications and regional daily newspapers also carried editorial & pictures of the event. Bendigo’s media involvement was again strong focusing on our association with & support for Otis Foundation.

Interest in the Murray Charity Meander continues to grow and we have limited next year’s event to 30 teams. Our efforts are focusing on encouraging teams to further embrace the fundraising activities of the event rather than seek a larger field. This is also being assisted by the increasing corporate support for our event.

We have been extremely mindful of promoting our sponsors to all media representatives and emphasising the support they provided. Sponsors name &/or logo can be featured on the event polos, stubbie holders, event stickers, team numbers for all boats and support vehicles, all display material and media releases.

Next years focus will again be on breast cancer & prostate cancer support services.

Continuing support from long term event partners greatly assists in the success of our event.

Any support for our event is greatly appreciated and we are very aware of providing our supporters with publicity and reciprocal support when & wherever possible.
