Morning everybody this is Noreen with the University of North Texas. Workplace inclusion and [Indiscernible - static] and it looks like we have a pretty good group of people a few more still signing on that we have registered as participants coming in to our presentation today. Which is on Building an Employment Portfolio. Today is a little bit different because our present or today is actually myself. Along with me my colleague at UNC W. Was our technology expert of the person who kind of makes everything work for UNC [Indiscernible - static] as well as our sessions such as this so I am very excited about having Debbie not only doing technology piece and she will be joining us later to actually give us technical lessons on how to put together a portfolio.

Some reminders in terms of how to use your webinar today, Susan sent me a hello message and I want to write everybody that in their control panel, going down to the header that this question, in that question box, if you open that up if you haven't there in your control panel, you can write the message, hello or that you can hear me okay, you could do that and that would be super so I know you are there and you can hear me loud and clear.

We can go ahead and continue with the presentation. Also in the control panel, thank you Amanda that you can hear me, that is super -- under the hand out, if you want to open up that tab and you will see in the tab is the PDF version of this presentation. You should have already received a PDF version of the presentation and email, but if you did not, or if you misplaced that, that is where you should be able to find the PDF version of the PowerPoint presentation that we will be using today. And you will need Adobe reader and mobile -- in order to be able to see that. That is what you need for today's presentation.

This morning we will be talking for the next 90 minutes or so about employment portfolios and what they do in different versions, then we will spend the last half of this ocean going over some of the technology behind it and how to use specifically Microsoft PowerPoint and hopefully do some troubleshooting and I think we built in enough time to help people -- if you have specific issues or problems or computer teens that you have solutions to that is why we have brought with us today so we can kind of deal with those.

It looks like people are signed on, super, bacon here is okay. We will go ahead and get started. If you have any questions during the session, go to the question box and write me a question or make a comment and we will be able to address this.

Many of you have been in a world of employment and reporting people with disabilities to find a job for quite some time. It your person is just getting started, just think about all of those situations where you wish you had something in your hand that you could give to an employer, so much more convincing that the job seeker you are representing actually the perfect person for the job. You have it inside you knowing [Indiscernible - static] but now it is like how am I going to convince this or communicate this to the employer next you probably [Indiscernible - static] interested in interviews, into kind of set up for your candidate in your job seeker for the interview.

But like so many people you work with the job seeker has either a limited employment background not have not had a good job or resume or resume looks pretty damn and have not had a lot of work experience for many of you, you might have a young person who is in transition so they really do not have a lot of work experiences are very limited very specific.

Chances are when you are kind of in that situation with an employer and you are with your candidate, on some occasions I spent a lot of time doing the talking myself and the consumers themselves may not have opportunity or may not be actually the person being interviewed, but you are doing the talking about the person, [Indiscernible - low volume] what their abilities our, but that all of that talk is around your words and what you are saying and the consumer might be there, be adding a few comments here or there or worse or not eating, yes, asked what is going on, there is a disconnect torque disconnect during the interview process between your job seeker or the employer because they are not the person interviewing.

In other situations where your candidate or job seeker's only person with your employer, sometimes they get caught up in conversation or in or in comments that have nothing to do with the interview. You learned that after the job interview has taken place, that they spend more time for instance talking about their favorite hobbies, or perhaps even their disability. And not focusing on their job skills and get lost in the interview.

That is where we are going to try to address some of those challenges. We want to support our job seeker to share the information that we have discovered during our discovery process, all that time spent with them upfront and learning about them knowing what they can can do, how do we transmit that information in a meaningful

Page 3: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

way to the employer and how do we help our job seeker to the same thing quick estimate -- but we will talk about the value of visual cues and thinking about what people remember. And so thinking about that for effective communication tools and help us deliver that message, for an employer and a more memorable way. What does it look like and what two people remember so I want to share with you according to study performed on the value of visual cues by the American Society for training and development, what they learned with about 11% of what people see or read is what they remember.

More likely to remember about 20% of what they hear. When you think about what a person can both see and hear, then your ability to remember goes up about 52%. And that is where we went to start getting our employers. We want them to not just see or read something that we have like a resume [Indiscernible - low volume] a piece of information that we brought in about the job seeker that we are working with on issuing a paper. Or just to hear our words but we actually one of them both here and see something and that is where we see the value of a portfolio coming in.

What we are trying to transmit is that information that we created during the informational or visit discovery process. Think about their capacities and strengths and abilities and preferences. And so depending on the person, it can also be a way for that individual to prevent that information during the information process or during a conversation or a meeting about this. We have actually seen portfolios used not only for interviews but also for lots of other situations, for instance I think in schools, we've started estimate we have seen for quite some time already the use of a portfolio for young people to participate more in their individual education plan. What if they like and what they can do and what their strengths are and focus on the goals they went to achieve even they are in school. Similarly I think I have seen more individuals using things -- services such as Medicaid waiver as they are working on their text -- Center plan they can put together something of a portfolio when they get ready for their annual staff meeting, other kinds of heading pieces put into effect that this is how they participate in this is their part of the presentation where they are getting ready to have a conversation about themselves and what they can and want to do.

We find that portfolios are pretty effective tools, to relate details important to a person. When I think about all of the different tools in our toolbox and if you go kind of what we wanted to build, for job developers and other people as their toolbox, all the things that they can bring to the table of how to promote a person and a portfolio is like a tool, very important tool, for the job seeker themselves and that it is something that they can pull out and use as appropriate for this situation that they are meeting in for.

Page 4: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

I think most important is to create more options for them in regards to their communication skills and style.

Here is an example and many of you know this is one of my favorite fellows guy that I hang out with a whole lot if you've been to the supported employment force you might know him are ready, when Ed speaks has pretty limited vocabulary, but he has a lot of life experiences. He is only -- you may only be able to hear so you may not be able to hear everything he is able to communicate in the situation, where and might say something like Elkhart, I like it and that is usually what you would hear for him, and therefore person that might know and might see his diagnostic information. They might see that that kind eight is a person that has down syndrome and also functions as a severe range of intellectual functioning and have are counseling counselor interviewing him for the first time hearing that statement might be a pretty limited interpretation in terms of what they hear. So they might be thinking well he likes to go for rides in a low-carb and that is -- go kart and that is something for him but if you have developed a portfolio and in the situation which is have a picture actually a video probably with be a better representation of it, went Ed needs as he actually likes to drive a go cart or in some cases actually a Elkhart that he actually -- Elkhart that he actually gets to drive and it provides a whole new understanding of what it is that Ed is able to communicate and what is the capacity and skills are. Not only likes to write likes to drive golf carts. That is an awesome skill to have, and brings him a whole new light and holy reference for the view and also for the PR counselor that you might be working went to get a better understanding of the individual and their strength and where we might be going with the future job site.

When we think of portfolio development, as you are going through the discovery process, there's just so many ways to start to begin that process towards building your portfolio with a portfolio for the person, the job seeker .

Reflecting back on the job development pieces, around job development and marketing, you will remember there is a component of that called features and benefits. Over all as employment specialists, we actually do spend quite a bit of time focused on our marketing and how we market the individuals that we are supporting. And so to the employer and the job communities, so when you think of features and benefits, those two pieces, you kind of want to bring that technology or that information into building the individual portfolios that we are talking about today.

Similar to our overall marketing objectives, the portfolio create a way for you to highlight features or the skills and capacity that you have learned about a person through the discovery process and then communicate how that benefits that employer. You are creating that information in a way that is very specific to the individual,

Page 5: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

basically grading and individualized marketing tool which is the foundation of supported employment, especially, but in many cases as well as job development. You are wanting to really focus on that job seeker skill.

As you highlight the features of your job candidate, you are able to demonstrate how they will bring a benefit to that employer and to that company.

That is how you are using a portfolio much as you would use and individualized marketing tool and many other situations.

Ones that portfolio is developed, once you have created that with the person you are working with, you will begin to see it opens up many new options for both US the employment specialist as well as for the job seeker.

It does create a new option for communicating with both US person supporting the individual or the job seeker, the job seekers themselves and what they can communicate as well as the employer.

In that it facilitates communication that is a little bit different so when you are dealing with just words, and not so much connecting it to the pictures it's also create different communication tool.

The main thing that I think the portfolios have done for employers as well as against the example when we have seen portfolios used in planning situations either at school or individual plans and using the persons inner planning process, is really a confirmation to the other people at the table who may not have as much individual experience with a job seeker and it is a confirmation of what they like and what their interests are and what their skills and talents are. So the employer is not so dependent on just your word.

So many times as job developers and employment specialists find that it really is your word, your reputation in your marketing skills that kind of get the person job.

This helps you with that dynamic a little bit. In that it takes you beyond just your word and were actually showing confirmation of a person in a situation demonstrating a job skill.

That will speak a lot more words and a lot more mountains in terms of being able to communicate. On the job seeker -- I think the other thing that I've found is that when the job seekers themselves see their pictures, there are all kinds of things depending on who the job seeker is and what their skill level is, that in this case with Ed is it

Page 6: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

helps to remember, I can do this and this is something I really like, so it also helps prompt the employer to ask a question about what it is they are doing. What they like about that, or is that something they do a lot so there may be more questions that come up.

Just creates a point of communication that may not be there otherwise.

I also see when I observed people using their portfolio, and also helps people go back to a question that they might have. In the process.

If a person goes through several pages are pictures within their portfolio that the employer or another person in the group will say tell me a little more about this, picking go back to the point and point to it and have more conversation about it so that participation in the process overall is much more present and is a lot more substance of -- gives a lot more substance to what are job seekers will be able to do so obviously a lot of benefits there.

So at this point, if you have not really picked up on the idea, you have a pretty good understanding of why we think employment specialists and job specialist should take the time to assist the person to create a portfolio.

Obviously for a lot of different reasons. I would even suggest to all of you that you create your portfolio before you get to the individual planning meeting of your support employment process and that the portfolio development will be there and be a part of that person's presentation when you are doing your support employment meeting

And selecting or talking about job sites. Again there are a variety ways that they can be used in like so many things you do in your job, the portfolio will take time for you to organize and get it done, it is a skill set that hopefully by the end of today, we will have you a little bit more organized around it. Annual have a good idea of how to get your tools in order and when you start working with the individual, will already have enough things in place you will be able to create a portfolio that helps you get your job done.

When we think about getting organized, there is probably a couple of new tricks and Deborah will be helping us with that technology piece, but so much of the information that you will need and just basic information about the job seekers is already collected throughout the discovery process. And if you think back and have gone through and you are a support employment specialist, but even as our dock coaches, you will be familiar with the concept that we have learned about [Indiscernible] and that you will

Page 7: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

have already identified two or three things about an individual and so he will be talking about that and using the theme as a core part of the outline that you will be using for the content of what those end up in the portfolio.

And then of course there are a lot of different styles that we will want to talk about, and what will fit the person you are working with.

Some people want to use the binder, others will want to use an electronic portfolio, some other kind of device that shows their skill, and so no matter what you select is a method for presentation, is good to have a tool that the person is familiar with and can rely on for those documents, if you need more documents coming up.

Ending today we decided to use PowerPoint as kind of our demonstration is probably one of those things that is most widely used. And it is kind of -- people are more familiar with it and easier to use and you can also do things like converted to PDF version and whatnot so Deborah will get us to some of those things and hopefully we will be able to teach you a few more tricks in the process so you can deliver enough of the message.

Getting started, start thinking about this a little bit deeper. Now that I'm sure you are all thoroughly convinced this is what you want to do [Laughter], and when I think about creating the portfolio and how we will be interacting with their job seeker, information we are simply in a portfolio really has to be an honest reflection of the person. It is very very highly personal and unique and expands a person's way to medicate with others about themselves in a meaningful way. We do not just want to make something really glossy, that does not deliver the messages we want to get delivered.

I asked her to find me a picture of something that had to do with selling and that is kind of one of my hobbies I do quite a bit of sewing so portfolio's kind of many of sewing and is actually something we kind of where, and similar in that it reflects the best things about the job seeker and when they are and what is important to them. If you think about that that can be [Indiscernible - static] that maybe it will give you insight into how you want to present it.

Similar to any kind of piece of clothing that you wear, a portfolio as many little pieces that are stitched together and they tell a story, telling a story about the individual, communicating something about the individual.

Many steps go into the final piece that is created and in the end you have created something that the person, word, becomes a part of who they are and it actually spent

Page 8: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

with becomes a part of how other people interact with them. And whether or not get the job [Indiscernible - static] so that is how the level of importance that we might want to put in to how we create it and how we present that portfolio as the job seeker. The process.

What is our goal tricks -- clicks just like any other piece of clothing that you would where you want to make sure the government you're making matches the -- garment matches the event you are wearing it at, big difference between formal attire and every day T-shirts and shorts, absolutely different message so similarly when you think about your portfolio for your five, for a job interview reflect the strength and capacity that contribute to a worklife.

Really want to think about your person in the picture, and in this picture here here's my buddy Ed again, so picture of someone who joined their birthday may not be really the best choice for an employment portfolio if you get my drift. You have job seeker really want to start developing your portfolio by answering some important questions like what the when the interviewer to know about the job seeker the interview is over? And what is the goal that you have provided this information quick --? Here is a real different picture of 10 eight and for you as employment specialist is pretty obvious the images that you want to promote and how you want -- Wednesday what the employer to see is that you really want them to see more job seeker as a qualified applicant and if they are the person will be able to do the job that they need to get done.

As you are creating and working to, your discovery process, you want to show example of the job seeker at work, pictures of the job tasks that he or she is doing and [Indiscernible - static] [Laughter] and so they are representations of that person doing things. In some cases it might be video clips so you will add a visual that impacts the interviewer's answer, sometimes it may not have the individual in that it could have a product or something that they have done. They will showcase a job seeker accomplishment, training and experiences that they might have, and if a person has achieved a certificate of some sort or completed the major training the portfolio might have a picture of that in it as a part of that page.

Want to provide employer with the information that does the spelling for you, it really should enable you as they employment specialist to be able to back off from some of the communication and some of the verbal things that you might have to minders of gauging and and sell a person because the portfolio is doing that job for you and that what you are doing is you are enlisting that conversation from your employer, your employers asking questions or more importantly asking the job seeker some questions about what they see.

Page 9: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

But knowing this from the beginning, clearly what your goal is, really does drive information about the final product, and what you are going to focus on, the kinds of pictures will be taking, and what I find personally is that the amount of information that I collect is quite substantial, far more than what I will actually ever use in creating a single portfolio for a job site.

That has a lot to do with how you proceed to your discovery process. When you are collecting the information -- and this will take your collecting information to a different level, if you are doing job development, or doing job placement or support deployment, that when you are going through that process of collecting information, and are going to be using it variety of different tools that maybe you have not used in the past that include things like the communication, with your job seeker , so they have -- you have their permission to take the pictures, that you are actually taking pictures of products that they have done or skills or exhibits, so you are going to be kind of approaching it a little bit differently.

I kind of picture the discovery process kind of one of those -- building a mountain of information, [Laughter] and when we think about all of the things that we learned in a relatively short period of time about people, it really does kind of like there is a lot here. And of course we talk a little bit about this, the theme and how we approach person, when Griffin and have is promoted the concept of discovering three things for his person work with, because the person that I ever met has only one thing in their life. There really are so many different things that people are interested in. And that they show a general interest in and that demonstrate skill or shows competency in performing, and certainly for those of you that abuse the theme of concept that is something that I would like to take a moment or two while continuing on the slide and if you guys are go to the question Boston know if you know what I mean by the theme and the concept and what that is and if you used it, that would be helpful especially if we get to the more technical pieces of the presentation.

Go ahead and find that question box, give me a minute -- sentence or two about whether you have used themes and if you understand how that would be used in this process and that would be great.

While you're doing that I will keep checking for a while.

The idea of the also is that many of those things are going to be ones that you know will lead you to your employment site and then sometimes will also find out that the themes are ones that more along the lines of a person's hobby.

Page 10: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

And that might be pretty limited in terms of what they might actually do for a paid job and it looks like we do not have people -- it looks like we have a pretty limited understanding of what the themes are and what we mean by that I will spend a little more time checking about that -- chatting about that.

Susan, if you have any comments additional comments you want to add to what you sent me, that would be super. Me back up a little bit in the job development process and discovery process, and when you are looking for working with the individual that you are supporting.

In discovery, what we often find is that what has happened with individuals with disabilities over time is that usually get headed towards a certain job that has been carved all for person with disability has been kind of like the prototype for people with disabilities.

Those job types may or may not take into account what a person's interests are, what their skills are or what their capacities are. So in order to kind of overcome those preconceived notions of what people with disabilities can and cannot do, Griffin and have and many many other people were golden and Associates, have all -- and over the last two decades of working with people with significant support needs and employment have been seeking ways to kind of overcome whatever preconceived notions are so one of the ways is that we identified at a minimum three things for each person and working with in terms of their skills and abilities and the kinds of jobs or ideas they have in their lives that could lead towards the job.

And so it is really -- it takes us beyond just what we think or that a person has one job skill and that that is the only place for them to go towards, that we are actually thinking about that person in a much broader sense. And that we are looking at top skills but then apply them to where they might fit into a wider world or wider scheme in terms of their job skills.

What we do with the theme through our observation and confirmation, is that we will then move beyond just what a single developed skill itself is and start to think about how it might applied in a variety of different ways.

For instance, in the outline if we are going through the discovery process, we might find the person is extremely good at Molly and looking -- mowing and looking at Ed and some of the other individuals you will see in the training, is driving a more with a trailer and does a lot of woodworking and knows how to use tools and a garage so he has a theme of machinery but when you think of the theme of machinery there are a lot of places in our community that uses machinery and he could maybe attach those

Page 11: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

skills to. Not just about mowing and using a trailer anymore, but a much broader area of applying his skill level or interest in.

That would then open up the number of employers that we can then go towards and we can promote Edward as a potential employer -- employee for. One of his other teams is he loves golf and loves bowling. 40 theme, there would be -- for a theme with the sports, is very active and likes to engage in sports and like to be out there and it's very social with those kinds of environments as well. So you can see that theme has been something that potentially fit in that employment situation or employment opportunity for him.

Another theme could be applied of painting or of art. Here is a person who does painting, knows how to do cutting and gluing and something kind of -- created over time, so she has actually developed work at things he has done is quite proud of and things he gives as gifts and in some cases has even sold, so you got three things they are and you got machinery, sports and art and when you think about those themes and take and start working with individual job skills behind those themes, that is where you start to confirm what is the person's capacity within each of those areas, and that is where you start also thinking about taking the pictures, showing whether -- what they are able to do, and creating -- moving towards work trials or other types of situations you have a confirmation of what their skills are.

In your themes you might also be combining themes in the end in terms of job skills like for instance machinery and sports, easily kind of complying, and that you are maybe even overlapping in regards to your employment site.

For instance the golf, probably easiest, in that -- to see that that is working for instance in the golf courses with a have the bars with all of the golf carts in it and that could potentially be a job for an individual. Correction back Barnes -- Barnes, whether skills are what they were able to achieve. So your are going for the portfolio can come directly from the development of those things and how those things relate to a person in terms of the job site. So a couple of comments that did come in.

There's one that says I'm not sure how often the idea of being seven relevant but I do find that each person has a different style of approaching the job seeking process. I does have a special [Indiscernible - static] so this may not need to be used as often as my expense of all Mac

[Indiscernible - low volume]

Page 12: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

Another comment we used it in the support employment process, of course in the support employment assessment [Indiscernible - low volume] the family, friends and people who know them.

We know them well are all involved so developing of the themes and having all of the input from everyone is certainly an important piece of how you get to the theme of a person and how you identify them.

Okay, [Indiscernible - low volume] thank you.

When I think of how you set up that information, that comes from the support employment assessment, that really does create an outline of all of the different possibilities of things that you might be able to create for that person portfolio and again the mountain of information that you create through the discovery process may not be all the information -- you don't have to present all of it to the employer are the specific job site that the person is going to, but you have it, you have it available at that point that you need it.

I think when I look back on supporting jobs employment specialists in Java developers that I know, part of the frustration that people expressed to me is that they know something about somebody, they did not take the picture when they had the opportunity or did not have the right tools or did not think about it or did not know that they were going to need that later on so having those kinds of thought idea of when it will fit in when will it make sense, is good because it will save you time in the long haul to kind of habit starts being organized in a way that makes sense for you.

Other thing we want to remember is how important it is to always our job seeker. Involved as much as possible integration of their portfolio and they should be the one who are spinning in the end and even if you don't use a portfolio that is real picture oriented, what is one that is more of a collection or at the end have several ideas of things that you might want to include in a portfolio, but if you happen to have like a resume or certificates and a variety of other things, recollecting that information along the way so that is organized and extended is really important and the job seeker themselves being involved in the creation of the portfolio.

Especially if they are using it for presentation to the employer, they need to know how is the organization of it and what is in the portfolio and they need to practice with it and the last that we ever want to hear doing an interview -- during an interview with a job seeker is when they look at something and say I don't know what that is, I have never seen it before, unfortunately I actually know a situation where that has happened where a person something put into their portfolio and their collection of

Page 13: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

information and it just kind of came up as a surprise to them that there was something that was put in there and do not really know how to use it.

Again some people might want to take pictures because that will be where it will show the job skills they are involved in.

You may already have -- hopefully you may have already those pictures from the photo album or have them based on a cloud or iPad, and there are so many different ways that the job seeker can contribute and buy into the process and I guess it does make sense to me that the more the person has input and choice in the content of the 10 four the more success -- turn for the more successful it will be for them in selecting the pictures especially if it is their document it also makes sense that they would be involved in those selections as well as practicing what they are going to be saying about those selections when those things come up.

One of the things that I'm sure many of you do and I do as well, when a person goes to their interview, they will have the practice interview session and the session that I had with a young woman and horror portfolio -- at her portfolio show sharing her story is going along pretty well given me examples and chatting about what it was showing and went to nice to do, and so she looked at one of the pictures that she had picking up in horror portfolio -- in her portfolio, kind of sad and I wish I had the picture here, to share with you, she said oh I hate washing dishes and it was a picture of her washing dishes in a large cafeteria, so I asked her to tell me -- was a practice interview and I asked her to tell me a little bit more about what it was that was going on and she went on to tell me a story about how she had to work in the school cafeteria and then even though she told the teacher that she did not like washing dishes or did not like washing dishes because of the yucky food that made her sick to the stomach, so that really was not a very good picture to have an eight portfolio and one of those things unless there was a really good reason to have it there, which I cannot think of, at the time, is one of those things to know that even though she was able to do it, she had the job skill and you how to do it, but she was adverse to doing it, and obviously did not belong there.

And let it came out in a practice interview, I guess it just points out to us to have practice interviews as well so we kind of target those things that may not work in the long haul [Laughter].

Pictures and photographs are thousand words, if you are using pictures or video on a portfolio development you want to make sure it lines up with the person being and job skills and going into an interview with the employer makes sense in the interview.

Page 14: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

Another example could be a man who is sharing his album with the patient program [Indiscernible - low volume]. In his album, his pictures of work show him holding up an item, and actually it was like one with a tick tack and another one it was a broom and he actually has things he worked with that he would just be holding them and he would be smiling into the camera. If you can imagine that, pretty much a skill shot and something that he has just smiling into the camera. Well that gives us some information but that is pretty limited, and I guess is I continue to work with him he began to express interest in working with animals, but the program really did not have any animals, they had no pictures of him working with animals, we really did not have very much information about what he could actually be doing with animals. So obviously this takes some figuring out and this is what you do when you're going into the discovery process. So what we know about that person then can kind of change once you start to discover that connecting we alluded to that earlier if you'll get other people involved in family will be involved in teachers will be involved and you can get more information and more death to it so we have yes, death -- best to it and in one situation we had a still photo with his to tech and that is one of the job that had in the interview [Indiscernible - low volume] but in this other interview because of the richness of another focus environment primarily is that they add a picture we were able to obtain a picture of the same man walking down the street with two Yorkshire Terriers on a leash, and totally different because you can see movement, you can see action, you can see a relationship between those thoughts and this young man and that is a real different feel than a still photo with a guy standing there with a broom in his hand.

The other picture we had of him he had close on his hand and was cleaning out a kitty litter box and these were things that were taken because of interest that the family had identified and those were skills that he developed at his home, but it showed a whole new impression of who he was and a skill that he had.

Of course going to an employer such as an employer at a kennel, those will be those kinds of pictures that will really sell to that employer that will say something about that person.

In our portfolio, we also want to make sure we get accuracy and that we know some of our job seekers will be needing more assistance than others throughout the workday so this does apply to a person working within this picture we have Ed again, everyone to resist temptation for the support person to total reduced to the picture taking [Indiscernible - low volume] and making [Indiscernible - low volume] and that the person needs staff assistance to get a job task [Indiscernible - low volume] or more realistic being in the same work area providing support necessary.

Page 15: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

And that really is going to be very individualized, very dependent in terms of how we put this kind of idea that we went to give.

Additionally if you have an individual who needs adaptive material of some kind, to be able to be successful, then the picture should include those things. In this particular picture of Ed as a jerk most -- in the check, most of them would have Jake's [Indiscernible - low volume] making a specific size of a black that he will then use for [Indiscernible - low volume]

So creating Jake's were creating whatever that adaptive equipment is whatever -- we went to be honest about that and be able to show that.

That includes things like communication devices, coworker support, whatever it is that we will need to make that person successful in their job.

So you collected a bunch of information about the individual and the job seeker, you want to figure out a little bit about what their style is too. And what they are comfortable with and depending upon that individual style you can assemble the information in a folder, supplemental information, picture album, can include samples of their work, some people will carry a small bag if they have something that they are willing to show and they will have -- if they have -- when I think about some of the wood working examples I have seen people create and they want to show those in those are things that they have year.

When they want to show original works of products you can bring those examples. When you think of more professional portfolios, architect, builders, artisan designers and engineers, it all depends on what they're going for them what they are trying to portray. Certainly we will give you links to some of the portfolios you can find the Internet, but you will find there is quite a bit more professional portfolios and how they percent and are able to then do shows and stuff when presenting their wares.

When thinking about just a hard copy, three ring binders to work really well. Be sure and use your -- find your clear plastic pages so that the pages themselves are protected as the person is leaking through the portfolio. Spec -- leafing through the portfolio. Make sure when you are working with the individual in the discovery process that you have on your permissions to not only take pictures and create the portfolio but also to show and that they know that these pictures are being created for the purpose of showing to the employer.

That is what you are pulling together, and it might -- actually make more sense to them once they actually seeing where it is going and how it is going to be used.

Page 16: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

You also have -- some people will be comfortable with it and some people will not. Use of animal trotted portfolio and certainly that's make use of an electronic portfolio and that can make them more portable with his information in their iPad or other and further portable devices can show videos as well which of course you cannot do that in a binder. But you can take in PowerPoint presentation and make copies and create that is a picture portfolio and easier for the person to use it this way and flip through it.

This is a good way to create -- include credentials, testimonials, other information that the person might want to collect, so that is kind of -- I think when you think about hard copy or electronic, sometimes it really is coming down to what a person is able to afford. And that is kind of where you end up at. And what you might be able to do on your computer or your iPad or whatever, taking your pictures and whatnot, might end up using the micro PowerPoint, that with your final product would do will be more like the binder for the individual and it might just be easier for them to hang onto it and carry met

The portfolio itself, the contents can be quite varied. This is a fairly extensive list that we collected over several different examples. Sometimes you will have a resume and sometimes will not, it all depends on the skill level that you are presenting and what it is that you want that employer to see and do.

Certainly some of them will have photographs and some of them will not and some will be much more information that you want them to see credentials, certainly I think when I think of this of technical skills, experiences and skills and abilities, description of projects, that these are areas that employers will definitely want to tune into. Was kind of surprised that people also included from time to time job descriptions that are jobs they had in the past. That might come in handy, not really sure if that would be something that in general we would be looking at.

But one of the things that if you have a job seeker that has met many challenges and able to solve problems and created solutions, that have those kinds of things are pieces of information in your portfolio, are super and employers do look forward to that.

There is quite a bit that you can include MIC that we are getting down to our last half-hour, what I want to do at this point is turn this over to Deborah who is going to give us some more information about how to create portfolios using Microsoft PowerPoint, shall give us an example of what portfolios look like, and I guess we pull them together [Indiscernible - low volume].

Page 17: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

In terms of making the portfolio. [Indiscernible - low volume] I can change you as our organizer and present or. -- Precentor.

-- Precentor.

Deborah, are you there? [Indiscernible - multiple speakers]

Tired of hearing my voice [Laughter]

[Indiscernible - multiple speakers]

I am getting an echo, Noreen. You may need to mute yourself.

Okay, I will.

Good morning everyone my name is Debbie, I will be stepping into the technology piece of it. I will start out showing you the electronic version of the PowerPoint that we have 410 eight, hopefully -- for Edward, hopefully everyone can see the title page for Edward's portfolio and I will just go through this a little bit and then show you how to create some of these. In this one we have a lot of photographs of Ed demonstrating all of the different themes he is able to do.

Now I will go ahead and we will step through and show you how to create these slides. I already have PowerPoint opens a way -- so I will come up to file, view and the first thing you see when you open PowerPoint is a section that shows the different designs that you can apply to your presentation.

Your designs may be different than my designs, and every computer is a little bit different, depending on what version of PowerPoint that you have. Plus I have downloaded different designs onto my machine. When you select a design, you want to make sure you select something simple. You do not want something very busy because then will also be adding pictures so that might make it more confusing. I want to use one that we used in the example and that is the median design.

Once you have selected a design, it will automatically open to a title slide. And before we actually start putting information on here, I want to review some of the components of the PowerPoint window.

I made my mouse a little bit larger so hopefully everyone can see it as I am going along. Across the top you will have your menu tabs, and right below their, this is referred to as a ribbon. Each one of these tabs will have a different ribbon with

Page 18: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

different icons and menu options that you can choose from. And we will talk about some of those, some of the basic ones today.

Below there you have two panes in the left pane some people call this the thumbnail view pane or the slide view pane and it will show you all of the difference like that you have. We currently only have one slight in our presentation though it is only showing the one. On the right-hand side, this is where you do all of your work. And notice on the slide, you see the little boxes, these are referred to as placeholders. Some people call them text boxes, a placeholder will have text already in their, and then once you click in, the text disappears. It does not work quite like that in regular text boxes.

Once you have selected a placeholder, you can tell it select it and these little squares are referred to as handles. You know that you have an object selected based on seeing these handles.

I can also see where my insertion point is down here. So all I have to do is just start typing and so I will just put the consumer name here, perhaps.

I also have another placeholders year that I can click to add. And then I can click off so notice when I click off anywhere I don't see the white handles around either one of the placeholders. On your titles like you may want to put an image of the consumer. So to add an image, you will come up onto your menu tabs and I will select the insert option and my ribbon changes, I want to go for a picture that I have on my computer so I want to select this picture option.

Your navigation and the lockbox will open and you will navigate to where ever you have your pictures. Navigation analog box. Mine automatically popped up now looking at your navigation bar from this week, I may not remember what each of these pictures look like so I will actually change the way that these are being viewed.

On your navigation bar you can come up to the top here and then I can choose show the medium icons in that way I can see the actual pictures and I do not have to remember what I actually named something so I will come up and select one and you can either double-click on it or click on it once and then select the insert in the lower right corner.

It will automatically bring your picture in, in the middle of the slide, and if you want to move a slide or image around, place your mouse pointer anywhere on the inside of the image and click hold and drag.

Page 19: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

If you want to resize and I notice the picture also has these handles just like our placeholder and I want to change the size and I can place my mind's pointer -- mouse pointer over these and click and drag. Have to be careful on images because if you just grab one handle, you have distorted the picture a little bit so you just have to watch that. I usually grab the corner. Our title slide is done. Now I want to add a new slide to my presentation. On this home tab, I have a section of the ribbon called slides and I have four options here and I want a new slide I will select new slide

Depending on which design that you selected, you will have different options here and perhaps they may be looking different from what I have. But it will offer you multiple different styles. On my think I will do this comparison because I will put two images side-by-side, so I will select this one.

Notice my thumb view pane view on the left is now showing me the to and I can easily click back onto the first one I need to make a change. So that is a quick and easy way to navigate to the different flights.

-- Slides.

On this one I will put a title for the slide and in this case I think I will just say get ready for a day of work. Ed has a lot of skills that he does. One of the things that he does is he helps around the family farm by hauling mulch, mowing the lawn and that type of thing so those demonstrate a lot of the skills that he has. He is going to be doing mulch so I want to demonstrate that.

On these placeholders on this particular slide, notice at the bottom, these are kind of like shortcuts. I want to put a picture of Ed and that is the icon here. I could still come up to insert pictures by choose to, but I will go ahead and use this. What this will do is bring the picture in an automatically make it this size for this placeholder so I will select the picture icon, and I will have to navigate to where the picture is.

I want to do the tractor, let me find it. I may have to make my icons larger [Laughter] but we will start with this one and he is working on the tractor and I just double clicked on the image and it automatically placed it in and notice it automatically put it into the slide and I will put a title for this.

He is preparing to get ready for work. I will add another picture over year. He is going to be attaching the trailer to the tractor. Having these placeholders are great, because you just click and start typing. These handles I can resize this down a little bit if I want to by clicking and dragging.

Page 20: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

Now I'm ready for another -- to add another slide so I can come up to new slide again. For most of the slides that we did for Ed portfolio used a similar or the same style out. You do not want different styles for every page.

For it to be consistent it makes it easier for the consumer and even for the employer when they are coming through and looking I will add one more of these and you just click to add the text.

Ed is hauling mulch. And this time we are going to demonstrate him driving the tractor. Had another image. -- At another image. -- Again, add another image.

Again, add a new slide. I think I will choose a different one this time, just to demonstrate.

Notice it has a similar icon that you can choose from, so if you want to add a picture, I do not see the picture I want -- there it is.

Occasionally you will want to change the size of your font, the size of this font you can find up on your ribbon in the font section, and it looks like I am using 20th century -- not sure what the MT is -- and the size 18. I can change that easily.

One thing you have to watch four, you can either click and drag to select the text or if you place your mouse pointer along the edge, notice I get like a four pointed arrow and click one time, whenever -- whatever I do now affects everything in the slide and I can increase the font size by clicking this letter" -- A with the arrow and I can decrease and I can manually change it by selecting something here.

And I can change the style or the look of the font. That is how you can change that. This particular placeholder if I use the large farm, does not fit very well, kind of looks all scratched up and I can change the size of this again by grabbing the handle and dragging out work. And releasing. Notice what happened, because the picture part of the picture had a section of whitespace, this is on top of this.

I need to just change the arrangement of this placeholder. To do that, on my ribbon, you see the range or select the drop-down, I want to bring it all the way to the front. If that happens, that is why, because each one is arranged front, back or in order.

Okay. When we send out the evaluations for this webinar, we will also be sending another PDF with a handout with the instructions on how I just did some of this. We have also created a short video that I will be placing on the UNTWISE website somewhere and we will post you -- also send you that link. This webinar is also being

Page 21: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

recorded and that will also be placed on our website so you can always come back to this. Anyone have any questions about the basic entering text and images at this point X --?

You can type anything in the question box.

Different we have one question, and that is they want to know if there is a way to insert a video into the PowerPoint presentation. Or do they just use the photos?

You can do videos. Than me think if I have a video to use as an example. -- Let me think if I have a video to use as an example. That meeting and see if I can find one. First of all, let me add a new slide and I think I will go with just the title only and then of course I would pretend and put whatever kind of title I wanted here and if I want to insert -- I will go ahead and go back to insert. Insert pictures, even though it is not as picture, well they also have video option down here, but you can do it with picture.

Let me see -- these are some sample videos, okay.

Weight will see this one will work. -- We will see if this one will work. You will resize it just like you were a photo and place it. You can also specify whether you want it to automatically start when the presentation begins. Let us go ahead and I will jump back to the first one.

Is everyone able to see and hear that video?

We could see it, [Indiscernible - low volume]

You may have only heard it, okay? Or you may not have heard it because it is directly linked to my headset but it did have some audio on it.

Okay.

Another thing, let us talk about the finished product. We can save it as a regular PowerPoint presentation, file, save as, and route to wherever it is that you want to save

I default PowerPoint is going to save it as a type of PowerPoint presentation but if you select this year, it will come up and give you all different kinds of options. Some of them is if you have older versions of PowerPoint, but one I want to talk about is a PDF.

Page 22: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

I will say this one as a PDF so I will name it Ed -- actually I think I will link it Ed space. [Indiscernible - low volume]

A PDF, almost any device can view a PDF because with today's technology, almost all tablets and iPads and even your phones have built-in readers or a reader is very user -- easy to download to the device. If you just save it as a PowerPoint and then you try to send that to someone electronically or your consumer is wanting to take the tablet to show their electronic portfolio, unless PowerPoint is installed on their tablet, it may be hard for them to access that.

And I will tell it to save.

And now I'm going to go -- can everyone see my list of documents that I have here?

Yes.

Great, thank you. Now, I know this is the document I just say it because I think it Ed PDF. Also you can tell what type of a document it is by this column over year, tells you what type of document and of course these icons, if you are familiar with icons that easily tell me this is a PDF, this is a Word document, this is a PowerPoint and so on but not everyone knows those icons, not everyone knows they can look over here. By putting that PDF they are, it is just a quick being that says okay that is a PDF. So if this one I send it to someone or they have it on their tablet, is going to look very similar -- and I will get over here so here is the PDF itself. And it looks just like the presentation. Except they do not have to have PowerPoint installed on their machine. You will notice in this case the video is not working, depending on what version of Adobe reader you have, some videos may not work so you would have to be aware of that. On this one I am just using regular Adobe reader.

If I use my other version, and let me double check, I will try to open the same file. I also have Adobe Pro. And we will see if that video works here.

Know, it does not either. So that would be something you would have to be aware of is that the videos may not show in PDF. In that case, what you might want to do is there is another way that you can save it on the show as and it is called a PowerPoint show. Again they should work similar as a PDF but they might have to download something else to the tablet. So you might have to try a couple of those different options. Any other questions? I do not see any of the questions right now.

Page 23: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

Being able to solve how we can do a video within that because I believe when we did it on an iPad that it had one of the video readers that allowed it to be done on an iPad but I'm not sure about other androids of they were able to see that.

Video that was embedded in it.

I will give it back to you. 1015. On the very last part of the presentation, I did last -- list several links that you can use for tutorials on PowerPoint as well. Microsoft.com has quite a few tutorials and how to use their products as well.

Yes, here are the links you are talking about, right?

Yes.

Yes, there are ways to do it again that are pretty simple and straightforward, certainly goes to PowerPoint to a PDF file, which copy it and I just find that it is also a good way to present it on a reader, one was on a candle and what was on an iPad so we were able to share that information [Indiscernible - low volume] quite easily electronically.

Can scroll up to the tips page, Noreen , I think we may have missed it. And we have a picture of Ed who took his iPad and explained Noreen where he was and he was using it [Indiscernible - multiple speakers]'s but he was actually at the capital, he was actually visiting his local legislators here but he was in Austin and he was talking about living in the community and so he was getting a little bit about his quality of life here and living in the community as well as having a job which came as a part of the presentation [Indiscernible - low volume]

We were looking at all of the things in regards to portfolios and one of the things [Indiscernible - low volume] [Laughter] does not seem like it should be a no-brainer but people need to remember they need to take the instrument with them so they do not forget it home. To always take an extra copy if you can, specially paper copy and whatnot.

When you are actually going into the interview itself with the employer, employers are not always use two people having something like an electronic portfolio are other kinds of tools so shine and the interviewer and being able to introduce it and knowing when to review -- refer to the portfolio itself and knowing that information is something you want to share and went to share it so it can happen in the conversation but it is always good to practice how to do that.

Page 24: Event ID: 2736458 Event Started: 12/3/2015 11:28:54 AM ET

Sometimes some interviewers don't really want to take it, holding onto it so it makes sense to share it, if they ask a question it might make sense to open it up at that point and then show an accomplishment or something important in terms of the person skills and we certainly have found with 10 eight success in a variety of different ways of sharing information. Terminates success -- Ed success in a variety of different ways of sharing information. And looks like we have done a good job of using 90 minutes of your time. But certainly when Deborah gets on with showing us technology and technical ways of putting things together, that is really important. What we have -- we have recorded the session so if you want to go back to what she presented her anything in the presentation, pick up on the site again and you will be able to go in and see the website on demand.

Those presentations are recorded and available at any time. They are usually posted for a year, so you have quite a bit time to go back and look at that if you need it. Will receive as always and evaluation -- and negotiation in well from -- and evaluation from unity and Deborah said also we will send you other pieces of information that we developed for the presentation. When you returned that evaluation is when we go ahead and post your credits to your individual portals so that you have -- shows that you have attended today's presentation.

Deborah, not sure if there is anything else that you want to add but we are pretty much completed for the day.

Anyone have any other questions?

All right. This is been fun. I really enjoyed putting the presentation together. Good to get all the information from you, Deborah and I appreciate everyone taking their time this morning and good luck with putting the portfolios together and I hope you have a good time, take care and goodbye.
