Scope

• Coordinate activities related to the Event Filter (Software):

First meeting– Focus on this year’s milestones on the EvF test stand

• Raw data access/format• Configuration/Control/Monitoring of Reconstruction• Subfarm Manager

– But also:• HLT Steering code• RC&C management, output streams (production,

express, display…)

Tools

• Meetings:– to be scheduled on a need basis

• But certainly on next CPT (wk. 19, May 8th) – Presentations during the general DAQ weekly

meetings (next slot on April 3)

– In special cases in RPROM and/or PRS meetings

• Listbox distribution list: – mailto:[email protected] NEW

• Web page:– http://cern.ch/cmsff  (to be updated, volunteers

welcome)

Reference docs

• DAQ TDR, esp. Ch. 7, 8, 14, 15, 16

• XDAQ Reference Manual and related docs

• COBRA/ORCA Online documentation

• Web pages for tools in use (Tomcat, Apache, SOAP, JAS, root etc.)

• Notes about subdetector data formats, volumes zero suppression and compression algorithms

Where we are

• Avoid “special” reconstruction code, extend existing FW:• RawData-to-ORCA path:

– Event loop, Raw Data allocation– Replacement ORCA libraries for data access/formatting

Offline base services (COBRA)

HLT tasks ORCA

Filter Unit Framework (XDAQ)

Online-specific extensions (COBRA)

Executive (XDAQ)

Online replacements for ORCA packages • Other Online Services

– Parameter setting / Configuration: take control of relevant COBRA services (replacement libraries)

– Monitoring: interface and format definition for publish/update, prototype implementations AIDA/root

Main goals in 2003

• Exercise one building block of the real subfarm (configuration and system management)

• Cold start, code distribution and FU configuration

• Test, profiling of HLT steering and reconstruction code (deployment, configuration [trigger table etc.] and monitor)

• Demonstrate Subfarm Manager

• Combined study of raw data formats, throughput, impact on execution times, of formatting and consistency checks

• Stress test: e.g. 1 hr of CMS running

• monitors, failure modes, output (repeat in 2004)

Also of interest

• Use of parts of EvF in test beam applications– Online monitor, analysis, persistency

– Next: Tk TestBeam• Want to see working code: prepare 2 page HowTo to

setup an application using existing FU code

• Use in Configuration/Monitor of “Tier0” activity

• Also, maybe:– Offline analysis of persistent, arbitrary format TB data

• Mainly useful for subdetector groups
