Woman Wins Award As Face Washer At Food Show Shares Victory With 'Victim'—Surprise Contest Slated Deftly handling a washcloth and soap, Mrs. Florence Hoover, 43, of Silver Spring, Md„ last night won a contest in which women had to wash men's faces, necks and ears at the District Grocery Stores, Inc., food show in the Packard Washing- ton Building, 1242 Twenty-fourth street N.W. She divided the winner's reward with William H. McClain, 24, of 5132 Fulton street N.W., whose fa*e she washed. The show management, which had announced there would be a "surprise contest” for men, de- cided to make it an equal surprise for men and women. Applause Decides Victor. Mrs. Hoover won over three other contestants, being adjudged the winner because of receiving the greatest volume of applause from the audience, by which all the show's contests are judged. s A 93-piece china set was awarded last night to Mrs. Fred W. Schultz, Arlington, Va. At the matinee yes- terday afternoon an electric toaster was awarded to Mrs. T. Lucchesi, 2352 Wisconsin avenue N.W. Six- teen-months-old Shirley Brown yes- terday afternoon was winner of the baby show, a feature of each mat- inee. The winning baby each day receives an award. All children not over 5 years old who attend the matinees receive gifts. Other Awards Today. An aluminum cooking set was scheduled to be given to a show patron at today's matinee, while to- night an electric refrigerator will be awarded a show patron. Another “surprise contest.” this time designed for men, will be an entertainment feature at tonight’s show. The food show will continue through Saturday, with matinees each day beginning at 2 p.m. and evening shows starting at 7:30 p.m. Valuable gifts are given show patrons each afternoon and eve- ning. Richardson, 118 S street N.W., won an absolute di- vorce decree from Mrs. Florence W. Richardson, clerk in the document section of the Government Printing ( ffice, before Justice Jennings Bai- ley in District Court late yesterday in what his lawyers describe as the first time a clean-cut division of property has been made under the new divorce statute. Desertion was charged by the husband in the suit. Both litigants are colored. The two-year-old case was han- dled by Attorneys James R. Kirk- land and William A. Coombe, who said that this is the first applica- tion of the new statute giving wide powers in the disposition of prop- erty. In this case, they said. Justice Bailey, bearing in mind that the husband had contributed more of the money to the joint bank ac- count, awarded him full title to the home and the funds left in the joint ! bank account. Mr. Richardson's attorneys said that the court can now dispose of the property in a divorce action where there is no agreement to the contrary. Previously, they said, it vas necessary to establish a con- structive trust on the part of one party or the other. City News in Brief TODAY. Dinner, Daughters of Isabella, Mayflower Hotel, 7 pm.
