Timber Carving with Uisdean Paterson
This course is aimed at the absolute beginner and provides a good introduction into the world of wood carving. The course will create enthusiasm for the craft and will display how attractive items can be created. Concentration on the achievement of results rather than the theories of wood, tools, techniques and such like, is a particular feature of the course. The instructor is a true master of this craft and many of his carvings are displayed in and around Stornoway. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 8 people on this course.

Photography with Mairi M Martin
Are you interested in learning about how to improve your own photography? The aim of this course is to help people learn about some photographic theory, how to improve their landscape and people photography in an informal and relaxed approach. The tutor is Mairi M Martin who studied Professional Photography at Glasgow College of Building and Printing. Mairi’s parents were from Lewis and she now lives at the family home in Doune, Carloway.

Emergency First Aid Work
The Emergency Aid at Work (EFAW) course is designed for low risk work environments and enables personnel to be designated first aiders in the workplace.It is legally compliant with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
The programme includes the following topics:
• The role of the first aider• Prevention of cross infection• The recording of incidents• The use of available first aid equipment (FA boxes and defibrillator)• The assessment of first aid situations• Treatment of the unconscious casualty• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation• First aid treatment for choking, wounds, bleeding and shock.• First aid treatment for minor injuries
Following attendance on the cause (6 hours) and successful completion of the practical and theortical asessments, candidates will be awarded the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) certificate which will remain valid for 3 years.

Upholstery with Morag Duncan
Are you looking to create something special? Want to learn a new skill? If the answer to either or both of these is ‘yes’ you can come and get creative with a short upholstery night class at the college, with tutor Morag Duncan who six years ago turned a hobby of many years into a business she now runs in Stornoway.
The classes are open to all with an interest in recovering an item of furniture, also offering a chance to gain new skills or improve existing ones, you can go at your own pace and the item can also be individual, (if they can fit in the door of the class room!)
