PRAYER OF THE DAY
God, thank you for all the people who have boldly advanced your kingdom throughout
the ages. Help us to be bold in faith as well, letting the earth know of your great love
and mercy. Thank you. Amen.
FIRST LESSON Deuteronomy 31:7-8 NRSV
Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: “Be strong and bold, for
you are the one who will go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their
ancestors to give them; and you will put them in possession of it. It is the Lord who goes
before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be
dismayed.”

RESPONSIVE READING Psalm 145:1-3 NRSV
A I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
C Every day I will bless you,
and praise your name forever and ever.
A Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable.
SECOND LESSON Acts 4:23-24a, 29-30 NRSV After [Peter and John] were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard it, they raised their voices together to God and said, . . . “Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
If you are able, please rise for the Gospel.

GOSPEL Luke 6:6-10 NRSV
On another sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose
right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him to see whether he
would cure on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him. Even though
he knew what they were thinking, he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come
and stand here.” He got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful
to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to destroy it?” After looking around
at all of them, he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored.
