Prepare to pay tribute to the legendary Evel Knievel in his hometown of Butte, Mon-

tana with death-defying stunts, roaring engines and live music packing the streets with

action for three thrilling days. The event continues to get bigger and better every year;

without a doubt the 13th Annual Evel Knievel Days is sure to be the best one yet!

Evel now rests in peace at the Mountain View Cemetery, but every fourth weekend in

July his spirit comes alive to watch his legend live on. Evel’s tombstone reads, ‘A man

can fall many times in life, but he’s never a failure if he tries to get up.’ When Evel

Knievel fell, he would get up and plan an even bigger stunt. Evel Knievel Days may

have stumbled, but just like the legend, and in the resilient spirit of the “Can-Do City”

of Butte, Montana, the event in his honor is ready to make history, featuring the most

famous daredevils in the world!

All Evel Knievel Days events will be in Historic Uptown Butte, the heart of Montana’s

most historic city. In between the high-flying action and entertainment be sure to visit

the historic sites from the community’s early days as a mining camp, to the rise of the

Copper Kings, and everything in between.

Evel Knievel Days, now in its 13th year, was created by Evel himself as a gift to his hometown and his fans. Evel wanted to bring world-class entertainment to Butte – and Evel Knievel Days continues to live up to the legendary daredevil’s vision.

Evel envisioned a show that got bigger and better every year – and thanks to hundreds of volunteers, dozens of world famous performers, and the people of Butte – Evel’s dream continues to come true. During your visit, expect to see performances that most people only see on TV or in movies. Organizers and sponsors have made sure there is entertainment for everyone, no matter how old you are or whether you’re more into Harleys or skateboards. Some years, folks even see a United States Senator cruising the Evel Knievel Loop on a hog and rock stars dining at local restaurants.

Evel was so proud of this place and he truly relished these three days in July when he could showcase the town he came from along with some of the best talent and acts in motorcycle stunts and extreme sports. This festival was his gift to Butte and a way for his legend to live on in celebration.

Seattle Cossacks Motorcycle Stunt & Drill Team

75th Anniversary

Established 1938 Wherever the Seattle Cossacks ride, people watch and wonder in fascination, waiting for the next man to climb higher. No ropes, no props, no skyhooks, no gimmicks - they just climb. How can they do that on motorcycles? The crowd bursts into

cheers and applause as the team glides past. It began in the 1930's with a group of racers and hill climbers who developed stunts to entertain themselves between events; entertaining fans came later. The first organizational meeting took place in January 1938 with a group of Seattle racers, riders, delivery personnel, businessmen, and other interested folks. By April they had a formal organization and a set of by-laws that included "to entertain and promote the positive image of motorcycling" (the emphasis on promoting rider safety came later) but what to call themselves? Russia's cavalry members, the Cossacks, were known the world over for their masterful horsemanship, and bikes were often called "Iron Horses" in those days.

Formal practices began and by the end of 1938 the group was well-known in the Seattle area. They disbanded temporarily during World War II, since many members were young men who went to serve their country, and reorganized in the spring of 1946.

Prospective riders must be sponsored by a team member and are required to own and maintain their own motorcycles. Attendance at all practice is mandatory. New riders spend one year as rookies, riding in drills and progressing to stunts, at the close of that year they are either voted onto the team or asked to ride another rookie year. Riders possess no special physical characteristics, though some work out to keep in shape. The most important attribute riders need is the ability to control their "iron horses" during performances!

Experience on the current team is extensive and impressive, and contributes much to the group’s cohesiveness. One member has devoted 40 years to the Cossacks; 2 others have over 30 years each and the remainder have 1 to 24 years experience. Current members are from 27 to 78 years old, and the roster has included brothers, as well as fathers and sons. We perform in about 20-30 shows each year, ranging from small town festivals to Worlds Fairs & National Motorcycle Rallies. We plan to entertain and promote a positive image of motorcycling & motorcycle safety for many years to come.

For Seattle’s Moneta, the only constant has been the dedication and passion for the music. Since formation in late 2007, the band has weathered member chang-es, illness, personal struggles, record label shakeups, and finding a way to stay relevant into the growing void of the once plentiful (now declining) music industry. Aptly titled, “The Only Constant,” Moneta’s latest album presents the boldest move yet from a band so steadfast in purpose. The band’s trademark pop hooks are still evident, but their sound has definitely ma-tured into mainstream rock anthems. “We wanted to create something timeless not only for our fans, but for ourselves as well” says drummer, Leo Martin. This time around, the band enlisted the services of acclaimed producer Jim Wirt (No Doubt, Incubus, Jack’s Mannequin) to helm the console at the famed Robert Lang Studios in Seattle. Lead singer, Jordan Thompson, having worked with Jim before, helped make the connection. “We knew that by bringing Jim in to work with us at Lang’s that we’d have the poten-tial to capture something great, and I really think that we did,” says Thompson.

The new album was narrowed down to the 14 stron-gest cuts and the band got to work in the summer of 2013 at Robert Lang. “After Jim was done, we wanted to turn the record over to an objective set of ears that wasn’t there for the whole process” Martin adds. “We wanted someone to be able to take the best parts of what we’d laid down and make them shine without bias.” After a lengthy search, the band settled on Casey Bates (Pierce The Veil, Memphis May Fire, Portugal. The Man) to mix the album. Guitarist and main songwriter Michael Rapson says “Casey’s track record and skill level were exactly what we needed to complete this record.” With a powerful new modern rock record in hand, the future of Moneta seems uncertain, but promising. With sweeping changes throughout the music industry in the internet generation, it seems like it’s only going to get worse before it gets better. But there are some bright, hopeful spots. Fellow locals like Macklemore have blazed the trail for a new age of successful in-dependent artists. One thing you count on, though, is that Moneta will persist.

BLACK FLAG is an American band formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, CA, by guitarist, primary song-writer, and sole continuous member Greg Ginn. Their discography includes seven studio albums and two live albums. The band has released all of their material on Ginn’s independent label, SST Records beginning with 1981’s Damaged. New vocalist, Mike Vallely, who pre-viously sang with the band as a guest vocalist in 2003,

and most recently collaborated with Ginn in Good For You (a band they formed together) is the band’s fifth vocalist.

A full slate of events is planned again this year with activities, games and rides in the expanded Kids Area. The Kids Area will run July 24-26 from noon to 6 p.m.

Redline Sports is sponsoring the Kid’s Motorcycle Experience on Thursday the 24th. Kids will learn about bike safety and they will be able to ride a motorcycle through an obstacle course.

New this year is a Kid’s Knievel interactive History Area, where children can experience and learn about the life of Evel Knievel, and his hometown of Butte. July 24-26

Extreme Canine Stunt Dogs will perform several shows during Evel Knievel Days. This audience interactive show is the nation’s most popular dog act, and has been featured on The Tonight Show, Animal Planet, Ellen, Queen Latifiah, and Oprah. All of these amazing dogs have been rescued from pounds and shelters. July 24-26

Also, for kids of all ages, Alchemy Indoor Skate and Education Center out of Tacoma, Washington will be providing free skate lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced skate boarders. Alchemy Indoor Skate Park and Education Center is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the relationship between skateboarders and the greater community. “We believe skateboarding is a fun, safe and constructive activity for all ages.” July 24-26

Tim brings an unapologetically ‘in your face’ attitude to his music and his live show that has caused the Nashville community to sit up and take notice. As Tim puts it, “My music is a reflection of who I am”. And ‘who he is’ is a direct reflection of where he’s been. It was back in Mon-tana, where Tim’s unique blend of rock and country found an enthusiastic follow-ing. Tim Montana and The Shrednecks are now based in Nashville, where he recently co-wrote “This Beard Came Here To Party” with ZZ Top’s Billy F Gibbons. alcheMy indooR SkaTe and Education Center is a non-profit organization based in Tacoma, WA, that is dedicated to improving the relationship between skateboarders and the greater community. The goal is simple: to provide a free, dry, and safe place for local skaters to skate and develop their athletic, social, and educational skills.

aaRon “Wheelz” FoTheRinghaM is a 22-year-old wheelchair moto-cross athlete from Las Vegas, Nevada who has won a few BMX freestyle competitions, including the 2005 Vegas AmJam BMX finals. Aaron was born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect of the spinal cord, which resulted in him having no usage of his legs, but that never stopped him. He started riding skate parks at the age of 8 and never looked back. He’s currently riding with the Nitro Circus Tour.

chRiS claRk has been competing as a vert skater since 1987 and is currently ranked in the elite top 10 of his discipline. A true stunt gypsy road dog, Dr. Danger spends most of his time on the road living life in the trenches and getting as much out of each and every day. He’s a father, a believer, a songwriter, a mechanic, a bus driver, a dishwasher, and an eternal optimist. Dr. Danger has spent the last 24 years performing live daredevil stunts at racetracks, speedways, and monster truck shows across the country. A child of the 60’s, Carpenter was born in Sacramento, California, where the entertainer in him soon came shining through. Instead of putting on plays in the back yard like most kids, he and his two sisters had a family favorite game, “Howdy, Partner!” It started with an ironing board. They would take turns sitting at the ironing board as if it were a saloon bar, one would walk into the saloon, give a slap on the other’s back and say, “Howdy, Partner!”, and then the stunt fighting would begin!

deRek cookI have been riding since I was two years old. My dad raced three wheel-

ers when I was growing up so naturally he bought me my Suzuki 50 three wheeler when I was two years old. That’s pretty much how I got

started. I got my first dirt bike in third grade and my first race bike when I was 11 years old. My mom and dad took me to all the races and helped me as much as they could but racing was expensive. Long story

short - I started jumping ramps when I was 21 and hooked up with Kenny Bartram and Chuck Carothers and they helped me a lot with my

career and we are still good friends. Along with Bryan Dowdy, I have an awesome wife that I have two little girls with that love to hang out

and go watch me ride and go to shows. They are the best kids ever.
