Music Tutors Meet Jessica and John, the school’s new
Music Tutors. The school is delighted to
announce the engagement of two gifted
individuals to support students in their
music development. Jessica Johnson is a
guitarist, singer, songwriter of some
considerable note and performs live at
Northern Rivers and QLD venues,
including having performed at BluesFest,
CrankFest and the DIY Festival Brisbane.
Jessica has completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Music and is renowned
as a songwriter, singer and guitarist. She is also able to tutor in ukulele and
piano. John is a multi-award winning musician having taken 11 places at the
Tamworth Country Music Festival including two first places, three second
places and six third places covering instruments such as guitar, banjo,
mandolin and violin. John has been selected to perform in recording sessions
in studios in Sydney, Byron Bay and Mullumbimby. He has arranged and
performed acapella performances and played at weddings, New Year’s
celebrations, formal dinners and lectures. In addition to the instruments he
has won awards performing, John is also able to tutor in vocal work, drums
and piano. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Music and a Graduate
Diploma of Education. Both Jessica and John are either currently, or have
been, members of bands. Both are experienced music tutors who have a
deep love of music and seeing children and youth grow in their love for music,
their skills in playing and personally through their experiences with music.
We are extremely fortunate to have both John and Jessica available to our
students as music tutors. They are available to work with students covering all
year levels within our school. Jessica will be tutoring on Mondays and
Wednesdays and John on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are offering 30
minute small group sessions (2-4 students). The sessions cost $15 each and
must be paid for in advance through the school office. The school has already
issued notes for parents to register their interest in their child participation in
the program. John is able to commence work this Tuesday (26/2). We are
hopeful Jessica will commence work from Monday 4/3. Students will be
withdrawn from regular classes according to a timetable but will be required to
catch up on any work missed during their time out of these classes. Parents of
more than 60 students have already expressed interest in having their
children join the program. These parents should ensure payments are made
at school on Monday for those scheduled for sessions on Tuesday (timetable
emailed direct to these parents on Monday morning). A small number of
places remain available. It is with much anticipation we look forward to the
growth of our students through their work with Jessica and John.

Mid-Richmond Swimming Carnival Last Friday, 41 of our primary students competed against the best swimmers
from Evans River, Woodburn and Coraki Public Schools.
In keeping with tradition, our swimmers dominated
in the pool and Evans River was the clear winner
of the points tally. More importantly, was the
exemplary behaviour from all our students, the
excellent and obvious display of sportsmanship
and the effort from all swimmers who tried their
best while representing our school.
I’d like to thank Jennie and Deyann from Evans
Head Swim Club for the loan of starting
equipment for all of our swimming carnivals and
for running the BBQ, and our ever-reliable parents
for their help all day.

Work in School Program (WISP) The WISP Program has been developed to cater
for students who require assistance in developing
their self esteem and resilience. The program also
helps students to develop their employability skills
and to achieve life skills in a variety of areas
around the school including canteen,
administration are and the school garden. Both
the school and students benefit greatly from the
WISP Program.

Year 12 Students
Representatives from the University of New
England, Southern Cross University, Bond University, Griffith University and
TAFE NSW will be visiting our school on Monday 25th February from
11:30am-12:30pm.
The purpose of the visit is to provide initial information regarding university
and post-school TAFE options. Year 12 students will have time to talk to
individual universities during the session and to collect materials. Later in the
year (late July) students will have the opportunity to attend a Tertiary
Information Day which will involve about 50 further training and education
providers.
During the upcoming visit representatives will deal with issues that would be
of interest to students including:
the admission process
accommodation options
course offerings and structure
expectations of a university student
differences between school and further study
scholarship types and availability
deferring and a “gap year”
costs
Parents and carers are most welcome to attend. If you have any questions
relating to the visit please contact me during school hours on 6682 6666.
