I. SELECTION - JESUS SELECTED 12 MEN TO TRAIN

A. Luke 6:13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:

B. Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

C. JESUS DID NOT CHOOSE MEN FROM THE RELIGIOUS ELITE, PHARISEES OR SCRIBES. MOST OF THE BEST SOUL WINNERS TODAY ARE NOT PREACHERS BUT COMMON EVERYDAY CHRISTIANS.

II. ASSOCIATION - JESUS SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH HIS DISCIPLES

A. Mark 3:14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach,

B. John 15:27 "And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

C. FOR 3 YEARS THEY WERE WITH JESUS CONSTANTLY

III. CONSECRATION - JESUS EXPECTED LOYALTY AND OBEDIENCE

A. Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

B. Mat 16:24-26 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me, {25} "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. {26} "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

III. CONSECRATION - JESUS EXPECTED LOYALTY AND OBEDIENCE

C. Luke 14:33 "So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

D. Hebrews 5:9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

E. Luke 14:28 "For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it;

F. Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

IV. IMPARTATION - JESUS GAVE OF HIMSELF

A. John 6:38 "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

B. John 6:51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."

C. JESUS LIVED HIS LIFE TOTALLY FOR OTHERS - NOT ONE SELFISH ACT

V. DEMONSTRATION - JESUS SHOWED THEM HOW TO LIVE

"for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

D. DOING WILL OF GOD MOST IMPORTANT John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the [will of Him who sent Me], and to finish His work.

VI. DELEGATION - HE ASSIGNED THEM WORK TO DO

A. Mark 6:7 And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.

B. Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.

VII. SUPERVISION - HE KEPT CHECK ON THEM

A. Mark 6:30 Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.

B. Luke 10:17-20 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." {18} And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. {19} "Behold , I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. {20} "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven."

VIII. REPRODUCTION - HE EXPECTED THEM TO BRING OTHERS TO GOD

A. Mat 13:31-32 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, {32} "which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches."

B. John 17:20 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;

VIII. REPRODUCTION - HE EXPECTED THEM TO BRING OTHERS TO GOD

C. John 15:4-8 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. {5} "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. {6} "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. {7} "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. {8} "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
