    This site is a collection of over 2000 Internet sites providing information about

    associations. Within these associations there is a wide variety of associations and

    organizations including academic societies, advocacy groups, art and cultural, labour

    unions, political parties, and professional and trade associations.

    Audience

    This is a resource of the Internet Public Library (IPL) and as such is intended for public

    library users who use the internet. IPL includes a kispace and teenspace, but this

    particular information is meant for an adult audience.

    Format

    The online format has ten different main subject categories and then each is further

    economics; computers & internet; education; entertainment & leisure; health & medical;

    arts & humanities; law, government & political science; regional & country information;

    science & technology; and social sciences.

    Authority

    The IPL began as an exercise in a graduate seminar at the University of Michigan in

    1995. For ten years U. Mich. ran the site for the benefit of the public and the site

    broadened to what it is today and incorporated new technology as it came into existence.

    In 2006, Drexel University began hosting the site, though U. Mich. stayed on as an active

    partner and the University of Florida became a collaborator as well.

    Selection

    The AON attempts to include all recognized associations and organizations within their

    ten categories. Associations either write in with their own information or users identify a
