Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

IPC media and Bauer are two media institutions that distribute media products. IPC is a well established brand that would easily be able to promote my magazine. They started out in the 1800s with their target audience primarily wealthy middle aged and middle classed men. In November 1911 IPC broadened their target audience to women with the release of their magazine Womens weekly and also Homes & Gardens which talked about Washing and Cooking which stereotypically were women's jobs. Then in the 1990's IPC launched their first teenage girl magazine; IPC now cover all target audiences with magazines such as NME, Woman's Own, Chat, 4X4 and Motor Boats Monthly.

Bauer was founded in 1875, and like IPC distribute many genres of magazines aimed at several different target audiences. Bauer are a well established company and would be able to promote my magazine on a variety of media platforms such radio, TV, print stations and distribution and marketing services.

I would use IPC media to distribute my magazine as Bauer already have Kerrang, which covers the same genre as my magazine, and Q music magazines. So they would most probably not want a magazine that is so similar to an existing one, as I took ideas from the structure and format of Kerrang magazine. I also have a similar colour scheme and mast head fonts are kind of similar so it would not be a good idea to have these two magazines in the same distribution company. IPC however only has NME which covers a similar genre but is primarily aimed at men aged 17-30, however my magazine is primarily aimed at males aged 14-18. IPC covers a very large range of target audiences. Because IPC are well established if the new magazine didn't take off and sell very well for the first few months, as sometimes new magazine struggle in the first few months, then they wouldn't make a overall loss because they would cover any losses from the new magazine by the profits of their other magazines. Because of IPCs vast experience they would know how and where to distribute my magazine.
