Question 2: How does your media group represent a particular social group? The characters are not given personalities during the opening scene, there is no context so the audience is not aware of what each character personality is like. The characters are best friends and they all seem to be enjoying themselves, we can tell they have strong social personalities. Lucy’s character is portrayed as the typical victim, her gender and the way she looks suggests how vulnerable she is. She is shown as being very small in each shot, she seems very confused in the shots on her own which suggests how isolated she is. The most interesting character is Lucy who is the main character in the film and the one who goes missing during the opening scene. Her venerability is a key trait to make her popular among viewers – whereas her other two friends are more like fillers at this point, we do nothing about them. We used sound and our individual mise en scene to help represent Lucy and her characteristics, we used dark and mysterious music to show how vulnerable she is when she is missing and the impending doom when we show her with shots from before with her friends, unaware of the tragedy that is about to unfold. The shaky handheld camera suggested the panic Lucy must be feeling when she goes missing. We also used editing to show two scenes together to showing the two locations Lucy has been and where her friends have been. This edit was very interesting and unique adding more mystery. We wanted our character to look and have the personality of a typical teenage girl therefor we looked at popular teenage dramas and films such as 'Waterloo Road’ and ‘Mean Girls’. Both characters are similar in the way that they are represented, however we look at the differences and similarities between the pair. Similarities: both characters dress similarly. They are both around the same age (16- 19). They are both conscious about their image, they dress well and

The image on the left hand side is Lucy, the character who goes missing in our opening scene, whereas on the right hand side we have Haley, a teenage girl in the US sitcom ‘Modern Family’. Both characters are similar in the way that they are represented, however we look at the differences and similarities between the pair. Similarities: both characters dress similarly. They are both around the same age (16-19). They are both conscious about their image, they dress well and use make up whilst caring about hair. Both characters look like they are quite lively, like they want to have fun. They’re also both female. Differences: Lucy seems less provocative in her personality. Both characters are representing girls from another culture. Lucy is shown to be a quieter personality. Lucy’s clothes are more appropriate for her age.
