How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The first example of how my main product links well with my ancillary tasks is the way I used the same font for the movie poster as I did for the credits at the end of the film and the movie title in the film review as you can see from the three pictures below.

Fonts

The fonts that I used in the poster and film review are different (apart from the movie title) because the review would be produced by the magazine company independently, so they would use their own house style. Despite this you can still tell the review is about my film because the images show screenshots of the film and the film poster.

This slide demonstrates how I used the same actors, props and costumes consistently through all of my products.

Actors, Props and Costume

I made sure to use the same actors, clothing and props within all of my products. It is very important to do this so that they link together and you can tell that the film review and poster are actually for the film.

I took the picture for the mask in daylight however I managed to edit in Photoshop so that you couldn’t see much of his face, which makes it more mysterious. Firstly I cut out the face by using the eraser tool on the surrounding environment, and then used a series of adjustment layers to get the darkness correct. This lead to the mask looking the same as the one from the film.

WebsiteI thought it was important to include the web address for the official website of the film in both the film poster and review so that the audience can find out more about the film online if they want to. I choose this address because it is very easy to remember as it is just the film title with a dash in-between the words. If I was to make the products again I would make sure to also include the web address at the end of the film in the credits as it would mean that an audience member who had not seen the review or the poster could still access the website.

ConclusionIn conclusion, I think that I used a series of techniques successfully in order to combine my main product and ancillary tasks so that they clearly linked together. Although I feel in general theory linked well together because of the fonts, actors, props, website, I think that colours could of linked in-between the pieces better. The predominant colour from the film (especially the second part) was blue, and I didn’t use this colour in the film poster or review. Despite this, I still included some subtle links of colour, for example the red lighting on the keyboard being the same colour as the film title in all of the products.
