ABOUT NIET:
Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology is a NAAC “A” and
NBA Accredited (UG- ME, CSE, ECE, B.Pharm) self financed insti-
tute which offers high standard quality education to students from
all corners of the country. Greater Noida is a hub of global MNCs.
The eminent visionaries of City Educational & Social Welfare Socie-
ty, Meerut, started NIET with a vision to provide value based higher
education. NIET has been ranked among top 100 institutes in India,
5th in UP and 1st in Greater Noida by NIRF, MHRD, and Gov. of
India.
The Institute aims at recognizing, respecting and nurturing the crea-
tive potential of its students. The teachers are trained to foster a
healthy learning atmosphere. They make continuous effort to im-
prove education methodically with dogged perseverance. The insti-
tute excels in all the parameters earmarked by AICTE, MHRD,
Govt. of India and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University,
Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, India.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
Department of Biotechnology, established in the year 2012 is pres-
ently imparting education for Bachelor and Masters of engineering
degree in Biotechnology. The department is NBA accredited and
has well qualified teachers with a broad research experience. The
students are enthusiastic and highly motivated. The mission of the
department is to evoke a zeal in young minds to gain technical,
analytical and employability skills. Department has well established
laboratories to support research and teaching.
BACKGROUND AND SCOPE:
The goal of this 15 days short-term training course is to highlight a
variety of aspects of Drosophila development as a model organism
in interdisciplinary research. This STTC includes hands-on training,
demonstrations and lectures from experts and members of the
core committee in the relevant fields.
OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE:
To provide cutting-edge laboratory research techniques in bio-
logical science, health science, animal science and pharmaceu-
tical to faculty, mid-career UG/ PG scientists, and researchers.
To use Drosophila as a model organism for research in the field
of nanobiotechnology, particularly in the areas of safety analysis
and toxicity assessment.
To study the impacts of nanomaterials ingestion on fertility and
reproductive performance, biochemical assays and behavioral
assays of Drosophila.
To facilitate the exchange of information and expertise on Dro-
sophila genetics in undergraduate and graduate education, as
well as Nano-biotechnology, neurodegenerative disease, phar-
maceuticals, and biotechnology.
MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COURSE:
Introduction to Drosophila fruit fly and culturing techniques in labor-
atory.
Demonstration of Drosophila field collection techniques in the field.
Drosophila sex and species identification and separation.
Knowledge of Drosophila species and mutants.
The importance/preparation of the Drosophila polytene chromo-
some and imaginal discs.
