My preliminary sequence was adapted to the diegetic dialogue delivered by the actors. I didn’t include any dialogue in my final product, therefore I could use a wider range of shots with more extreme long shots and close ups that could draw attention to the mise en scene.
Dialogue would havebeen difficult to pickup on the camera when filming in wind outside.
I gradually learned to make directorial decisions based on theirpracticality…
It was difficult to getthe dialogue volumes right in the preliminary.
I learned how to become critical of my own work, as well being able to takeon board an audience’s opinion, and make it constructive.
I began to criticize my ownwork from the outset by evaluating what I would change in the preliminary.

I learned to use a wide range of shots using a variety of distances. I learned to pay attention to where I framed the actor for certain effects too, where as, in my preliminary, I framed the actor in whichever side was easiest.
