In what ways does your media project use, challenge or develop forms and conventions or real media products?

My album cover (left) is both conventional and unconventional. It is unconventional in the way that is has no pictures on the cover. However, this is to make the album cover look more simplistic and reflect the music video well. It can be seen as conventional as it has the album title bold across the cover. This album cover can still challenge other forms of media products because it is plain yet still eye-catching.

My album cover (back and side) is both like my album cover (front) conventional and unconventional. It’s unconventional as it has a picture on the back looking off into the distance making the appearance of the actor looking at something (or as the music video shows looking for his ‘Paradise’). Furthermore, it can be seen as unconventional as the song titles are different sized fonts and boldness. It can be seen as conventional as the song titles are in order down the page. The album back and side can challenge other forms of media products because of the layout and how it is bright and eye catching yet still simple.

My poster (right) can be both again conventional and unconventional forms of media. There are no pictures which follow the ideals of a unconventional poster and in only having the band name and song in some font at the bottom of the poster this suggests that the audience should be aware of the lyrics on the poster thus creating an unconventional poster. However, this poster can also be conventional as it stands out and is simple with not all the details creating a ‘mess’ of the poster.

My poster (left) can also be seen as both conventional and unconventional. The poster has a picture of the main actor on the poster which helps people get a better idea of what the poster is trying to say and the poster also has all the necessary information on the poster. However, the poster is unconventional as it once again on has the title of the band in small font as in an assumption that people should be aware of both the actor and the lyrics on the poster.

Both these posters can challenge other forms of media products as they are both different but standout in their own ways, with effective layouts.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

• My music video and my products are a good combination. They do not have a continuous link between them, however, I have made my album cover very modernised and different, my music video is set in rural locations all based outside in the open.

• I think I could have made slight changes to my music video to create a more modernised video however, I think this also could have taken some of the idea of a ‘Paradise’ away from the video, which may then not have had a great affect to the actual lyrics of the song.

Paper and Pencil… And Camera

• I used paper and pencil to create my storyboard for my planning part of my coursework. I then took photo of my storyboard and put these images on a post onto my blog.

PowerPoint Presentation

• I used PowerPoint presentations to create a effective visual way of looking at most of my coursework, mainly in the planning, research and evaluation stages of my work.

Fireworks

• I have used fireworks to produce my products which is an image editing software. In using fireworks, I found this a lot easier to use from previous coursework projects as I have now had experience using fireworks. The hardest part of using fireworks was to ensure all my products (album covers and posters) were effective and professional.

Slideshare

• I also used Slideshare to upload my PowerPoint presentation to create an easier way to put my presentations onto my blog. In doing this I gained an embed code to put this on my blog.

Video Camera

• I have used a video camera, to film my entire music video; I did consider using of methods of filming, i.e. cameras, phones and other products but the video camera was more traditional and easier to use and in using make my music video more professional looking.

Pinnacle

• I created my music video on pinnacle; I found this tricky to use at first having no prior experience of using this programme. I found the hardest thing to do in using this programme was to time the shots exactly to the time of the music, especially for the amount of shots I had taken. However, after finishing the shots and perfecting the timing I am happy with the end result.

&

• I used both Youtube and Vimeo to upload my cuts and music video to my blog. I found half way through my coursework that Youtube was sometimes being blocked so people were unable to view my music video. To resolve this problem I then used Vimeo as a faster and effective alternative method.

Blogger

• I obviously used blogger to upload my posts to my blog. It is an easy and effective way for people to view my progress of my coursework and is almost like a diary.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

• My feedback informed me to change some things I originally thought were fine. I asked my target audience for feedback both positive and negative criticism.
