Real Media Product Form and Conventions: Use and develop Aimed at younger audiences as animations
generally are Animations tend to be of the comedy genre or
have some humour in it The idea of the animation was to relate to kids,
which is what most animations attempt to do We used elements of real life which are often
reflected in kids shows Language used is simple Extraordinary, unbelievable characters
Real Media Product Form and Conventions: Challenge Our main character is an adult who
behaves like a child The combination of animation and film
is not a common idea The film doesn’t have a closed ending,
it is left with a … The story does not have much
dialogue, it’s told mostly through actions and thoughts
Audience Feedback
For our audience survey, we used survey monkey. Our method of distribution was to emailthe link to people within our target audi-ence age and ask them to pass it on to others of the same. The response rate was lower than we would have liked. This was probably because the survey was open for a very short period of time as well as the fact that we didn’t distribute it to enough areas (eg, facebook or twitter).
The results
16-20 year olds were the most responsive. This could be because they have more of an online presence and are more likely to answer online surveys than any other age group.
We took this into account when we decided to change the ending from a happy all’s well one to a cliff hanger. The ending is shrouded in mystery so the audience doesn’t know what happens but can suspect. We changed it so that it wouldn’t become a typical predictable film where everything works out perfectly. Where’s the entertainment in that?
When asked what their opinion on the representation of their age group in animation:
Most said that they aren’t bothered by the representation in animations as there aren’t really all that many. Others said that teenagers are mostly presented in a slightly negative light, e.g. ‘funny, stupid, rebellious, bullies.’ Some of the responses stated that they would mind seeing a more realistic representation of teenagers in films.
Combination of ancillary texts and main product: poster
The poster is effective with the film because it is eye-catching and colourful as a kids film poster should beOur focal image is that of the actor surrounded by brightly coloured aliens. This automatically draws the eye and intrigues the viewerThe poster will attract the target audience as this kind of wild imaginings is their area of expertise, especially as the actor on the poster is an adult and not a childOur title is big and bold, unmissable It easily suggests that our film will be some kind of spoof/comedy simply from the title ‘mithon impothible’It follows the conventions of a real poster, as we also have a tagline, logo, production company info, etc
Combination of ancillary texts and main product: trailer
The trailer serves it purpose in intriguing the The trailer serves it purpose in intriguing the audience enough to go see the film, but without audience enough to go see the film, but without making any promises or giving away too much of the making any promises or giving away too much of the storystory Just like with any other film, our trailer also sounds Just like with any other film, our trailer also sounds better than the actual filmbetter than the actual film The trailer is very comical and jokey, it sets the The trailer is very comical and jokey, it sets the mood for the entire film before anybody has seen itmood for the entire film before anybody has seen it It starts slow and speeds up as it goes, with a few It starts slow and speeds up as it goes, with a few sudden stops and starts, which only add to the pace sudden stops and starts, which only add to the pace of the filmof the film Includes theme tune and voiceoverIncludes theme tune and voiceover
Combination of ancillary texts and main product: The Combo The three of them together hint at a face paced entertaining watch, with loud noises and colour explosions The trailer is leaning more towards the sarcastic view of the film that some audience members may take whereas the poster is more straight up and takes a slightly more serious tone than the outright sarcasm of the trailer
