What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

In my magazine the social groups that are represented are white British teenagers/young adults. I've purposefully done this as this is the category that my target audience fit into. This will therefore help them relate to the people in the magazine. I have used both males and females for my main images, this is to try and attracted a unisex audience. I have gone against the convention of sexualizing females as I think this would have out females of buying the magazine. The people in the pictures that I have used are very similar aged to the intended target audience of this piece. As these age groups will have more in common with each other making it easy for them to build a fictional relationship with the people in the images (use and grats).

On the front cover you see a male aged 18, it’s a counter typical representation of males aged between 16 and 18 due to the stereotypic representation of males in this age bracket being some what rerelease and out to cause trouble. Sam's costume is stereotypical of the typical singer song writer, I made sure of this by doing the appropriate research into what popular singer song writers wear including ben Howard and ed sheran. The costume is also something that the average indie/hipster teenager might be seen wearing so therefore by putting Sam into this costume I am appealing to this audience.

On my double page spread I have used a female model this pictures goes against lot of conventions. One convention it goes against is the sexualisation of females in magazines. Females are normal objectified in magazines to appeal to a male audience (Mulvey- male gaze) by challenging this theory I think my magazine appeals to both males and females despite not having sexualisation of either sex within the magazine.

Shot TypesFore the front cover I have the model looking right down the lens of the camera this is creating a direct mode of address which will help the audience build a relationship with the model. This will enforce a sense of comfort in the magazine (use and grats).

For the doubled page I have used a long shot, this is so that I got a look of the backdrop into the imaged as it forms the background of the page. This is a very common convection used in magazines. However I have also challenge the convention by getting the model to block her face with a record. I could have made this objectified the female model if I had changed her costume but I had her wear a black dress as draw the attention to the record where the colour is. I chose not to objectifie the female in this picture as I want to appeal to both males and females.

LayoutThe contents page that displays a lot of information I have likened the layout to Facebook and twitter this has been done as my target audience is of an age where it would be rare to find someone that hasn’t used Facebook of twitter. This layout is going against the conventional layout for a contents page. You will often find the whole page taken up with colour, pictures and text this connotes a sense of energy in the magazine. I went against this as I wanted my minimalistic approach to be carried through the magazine; I think that by doing this I have created a calming look to the magazine something that NME, Q and Kerrang are missing.
