After decades in development,a number of powerful forces arecoming together to launch a fleetof electric vehicles (EVs) on ournations highways.

The Electric Vehicle Picks Up SpeedA Technology Whose Time Has Come

For every 10,000 gas-poweredcars replaced by electricvehicles (EV), C02 emissionswill be reduced by 33,000metric tons per year.

Substantial GovernmentInvestmentThe federal government is making a broad-based effort to accelerate development of EVsand other clean technologies:

As part of the American Recovery andReinvestment Act (ARRA), the U.S. hascommitted $2.4 billion to boost ourcapacity to manufacture batteries, electric

motors, and other EV components as wellas to evaluate plug-in hybrids.

The U.S. government is providing $8 billionto automobile manufacturers to developadvanced vehicle technologies.

The Treasury Department is developing taxcredits for purchasing EVs and installingcharging stations.

The Department of Energys Clean CitiesInitiative has established over 90 coalitionsaround the country to support cleantechnologies, including EV infrastructure.

    An EVInfrastructureThat's Equal Tothe Demand

For the nation to reapthe benefits of EVs, it isnot enough to developmore efficient batteriesor motors. EVs must besupported by an energyinfrastructure capableof bringing power fromthe utility to the chargingstation safely and reliably.

GE has the full range of electricaldistribution products required tosupport EV deployment and accessto the distributors, contractors, andfinancing options that can make ita reality.

The Electrical InfrastructureThe charging stations where consumerspower their EVs are just the most visibleelement of the extensive infrastructure needed to support the transition to energy-powered automobiles. In addition to its EVcharging stations, GE offers a wide rangeof large- and small-scale electrical distributionproducts including transformers, switchgear, switchboards, and residential load centers

needed to ensure end-to-end systemprotection and reliability.

GEs 100 years of innovation in the designand manufacture of electrical distributionequipment means that you can depend onGE products to help move power to EVs asefficiently and as safely as possible andto take full advantage of smart grid designand other emerging technologies.

Interest in EVs, particularly among environmentally consciousconsumers, is growing rapidly, but they are not alone. Earlyadopters are drawn to advances in technology that are

making EVs and plug-ins increasingly practical, while frugaltravelers see EVs as a hedge against gasoline price increases. At the same time, there is a growing sentiment that the UnitedStates must reduce its dependence on foreign oil.

The Expanded EV PipelineDriven by Growing Consumer Demand

Over the next five years, virtually everyautomobile manufacturer in the world

plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid orbattery electric vehicle. They will convertexisting models and introduce new models.

The Network of Distributorsand ContractorsGE has created a team of distributors and contractors withthe expertise to help you design your entire EV infrastructureand the capacity to help you build it. This network consistsof 500+ authorized distributors in 1,400 locations around thecountry as well as our existing contractor customers selectedfor their dedication to service and the quality of their work.

Consumer Supportand FinancingTo help consumers upgrade their residences for fast home-charging, GE has partnered with ServiceMagic to connectconsumers with service professionals. ServiceMagic willengage certified residential electricians qualified to install theEV Charging Station, and, in conjunction with GE Capital, willoffer flexible financing for the project.

Education and MarketingGE is taking an active role in overcoming the barriers to

widespread EV adoption, educating stakeholders about itsadvantages, and highlighting the innovative products andservices that the company is creating to accelerate thetransition. Our education and marketing campaign consistsof TV commercials, advertisements, articles, webisodes, and more.

As plug-in electric vehicles begin hitting theroad, GEs EV Charging Station stands ready

to serve the millions of cars that will beplugging-in instead of fueling-up.

Setting the Standardfor User-Friendly Designand ReliabilityWith the EV Charging Station, GE builds on a centuryof innovation in designing and manufacturing electricaldistribution systems. GE's EV Charging Station enables fastLevel 2 charging whether it's installed at home or in publiclocations. The EV Charging Stations modular design allowsfor easy upgrades as owners needs change and moreoptions become available.

The EV Charging Station is ideal for various locations. Itcan also help developers of commercial properties achievehigher LEED status for setting aside parking for low-emissionvehicles and reducing conventional commuting trips. The EVCharging Station is also well suited for residential settings, where its user-friendly design makes it an excellent choicefor consumers wanting a durable, at-home solution.

The EV Charging Station from GE Moving Power from the Grid to the Road

Level 2 charging iscapable of reducingcharge time from12 to 18 hours tofour to eight hours.

EV Charging Station FeaturesThe EV Charging Station benefits from knowledge andexperience gained in GEs 40 years of manufacturingRV pedestals.

Standard Features A holder keeps the cord organized and out of the way LEDs display charger status

Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) screen shows greetings, instructions, and charging station messages

    Outlet automatically recloses

Vehicle ground monitoring circuit protects the user

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) OptionThe ISO 15693 compliant RFID reader can be used with GE-provided key cards.

Users pass their cards in front of the RFID reader on the EV Charging Station, which sends their identification via Ethernet to the RFID software applicationrunning on a remote desktop, which then issues an authorization to start charging.

The RFID software application, running on Windows XP or Windows 7, enableselectric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) operators to add, remove, or suspend user authorization. In addition, it offers the following benefits:

Collects data on EVSE usage, which it stores in a relational database

    Generates reports on EVSE usage

Monitors the status of communication with the EV Charging Station

The wall-mounting option fits in residential as well aspublic parking garages.

The single-pedestalmounting option is ideal forlots and on-street parking, where user access is ata premium.

The pole-mounting option is the best choice wheresidewalk space is limited.

The double-pedestalmounting option enables twocharging stations to occupythe space of one.
