EIH: Initial need

Process development at pilot scale: A key step to industrial innovation

• In order to reduce Europe’s dependency on imported non energetic raw materials it is necessary to promote the domestic production of these materials. Nevertheless:

• Resources accessible to European companies (from primary and secondary resources) are often low grade and/or polymetallic.

• Extractive industry is under pressure to enhance its environmental standards because of high social expectation in Europe.

-> Thus innovative extractive processes are needed.

•Hydrometallurgy is one of the technology families that will help facing these challenges. Academic research groups able to conceive innovative processes and companies willing to implement them exist in Europe. But the link between academia and industry, a generalist and holistic piloting platform is still missing.
