The European Emergency Response Capacity is commonlyreferred to as the "voluntary pool". It consists of a range ofcivil protection capacities which countries that participatein the EU Civil Protection Mechanism make available for EUemergency response operations. Since the establishment ofthe voluntary pool in October 2014, 21 Participating Stateshave brought together over 92 civil protection capacitieswhich are now available (or will eventually becomeavailable) for EU operations worldwide, following a requestfor assistance through the European Commission'sEmergency Response Coordination Centre.
