InnovatorsInnovators
• technology enthusiasts• appreciate technology for its own sake• the gatekeepers for any new technology• few requirements, but truth, access and being
first to get it• evaluator and key influencer for the next group
European Commission DG Information Society
Early adoptersEarly adopters• the visionaires• can match technology to strategic
breakthrough opportunity• driven by a dream, but business goal, not
technical goal• least price-sensitive, willing to take
investment risks• easy to sell to, hard to please
European Commission DG Information Society
Early MajorityEarly Majority
• the pragmatists
• do not want to be pioneers
• goal is to make improvement, predictable progress
• want to know how their peers managed
• hard to win over, but loyal once won
• like to see competition
European Commission DG Information Society
““Take-up typesTake-up types• Trials:
– evaluation of promising, yet not fullyestablished technologies & solutions
– targets early adopters+ early majority
• Best practice actions:
– promote take-up of well established technologies & methods
– targets early majority

Clustering - ObjectivesClustering - Objectives• Multiplier effect in reaching European industry:
– small individual projects - limited reach
– joint dissemination of experiences in the same thematic cluster - possibility to broadly attract industry
– common identity as a European initiative
• Increased efficiency of co-ordination:– experienced principal contractors
– common interface to the EC
– harmonised and simplified procedures forreporting, monitoring, reviews, cost statements
– centralised financial management
European Commission DG Information Society
ClusteringClustering
• Obtain critical mass of results in sectors
• Focus dissemination and replication efforts
• Stimulation of further technology transfer
• Target common industrial audiences
• Allow efficient technology transfer across Europe

Recommendations for Proposers in AL IV.2.5Recommendations for Proposers in AL IV.2.5• Individual proposals per experiment
• Provision of 10% of requested funding for cluster WPs
• Cluster WPs could be carried out by partners
– who are experienced in technology transfer
– who are neutral related to competing users or suppliers
• Partners for Cluster WPs could be
– included in proposal
– foreseen in proposal as NN partners (one partner should be prepared to carry out the work, if the proposal should remain unclustered)
European Commission DG Information Society
Multinationality RequirementsMultinationality Requirementsfor Take-up Proposalsfor Take-up Proposals
• Principal Contractors have to be single or have to fulfil multinationality requirements for RTD projects
• In case of one Principle Contractor, no multinationality requirements for Members
• Individual proposals must have a European Dimension, e.g. results and experiences are of broader interest and are disseminated across Europe
European Commission DG Information Society
Proposals for Pro-active Dissemination Proposals for Pro-active Dissemination and Technology Transferand Technology Transfer
• could be submitted under AL VIII.1.2 :Networks of Excellence/ Working Groups (Thematic Networks)
• could be submitted by principle contractors of thematic clusters to complement their work
• could include partners with good links to industry(e.g. chambers of commerce, industrial sector associations, standardisation groups, …)
• could be focused on technical themes and/or industrial sectors• could be based on results and experiences, including from thematic take-up
clusters• should describe in detail the target audience, methodology and
channels to be used to reach it, hard success criteria
