Electronic stability control is standard on the DS4 and met Euro NCAP's requirements. There is a seatbelt remindersystem for the driver, front passenger and rear seats. A driver-set speed limitation device is also standard equipmenton the DS4.

    Pedestrian

    Safety assist

The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs. However, the front edge of the bonnet was marginal orpoor. In most areas likely to be struck by the head of a child, the bonnet offered good protection. However, in those

areas likely to be struck by an adult's head, protection was rated as poor in all areas tested, and no points werescored for this part of the assessment.

    COMMENTS

    Adult occupant

    Child occupant

Based on dummy readings in the frontal and side impact tests, maximum points were scored by the DS4 forprotection of the 3 year child. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint tobe used in that seating position. The switch is clearly marked and unambiguous information is provided to the driverregarding the status of the airbag, and the system was rewarded. Permanent labels warn clearly of the dangers ofusing a rearward facing restraint in this seating position without first disabling the airbag.

The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated good protection forthe knees and femurs of both the driver and front passenger dummies. Citron were able to show that a similar levelof protection would be offered to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different seating positions. The DS4scored maximum points for the protection it provided in the side barrier test. In the more severe side pole impact, protection of the chest and abdomen areas was adequate and that of the head and pelvis was good. The seat andhead restraint provided marginal protection against whiplash injuries in a rear-end collision.

Electronic stability control is standard equipment on all Focus variants and passed Euro NCAP's test. A standard-fitseatbelt reminder covers the driver and front passenger seats.

    Pedestrian

    Safety assist

The protection provided by the bumper to the legs of a struck pedestrian was predominantly good. The front edge ofthe bumper offered good protection in all areas tested. In most areas likely to be struck by a child's head the bonnetoffered good protection. While protection of an adult's head was also good in places most areas tested were rated as

    poor or marginal.

    COMMENTS

    Adult occupant

    Child occupant

The Focus scored the maximum points available for the protection of the 3 year child in the frontal and side impacttests, and lost only a fraction of a point for the 18 month infant. A switch is available as an option which disables thepassenger airbag, allowing a rearward facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. The test cars were notequipped with the switch and no assessment was done. Labels warning of using a rearward-facing child restraint inthat seating position without first disabling the airbag were not available in all European languages.

The passenger compartment of the new Focus remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicatedgood protection of all body regions for the front passenger, and for all body regions except the lower legs of thedriver, protection of which was adequate. Ford demonstrated that a similar level of protection would be provided tothe knees and femurs of occupants of diiferent sizes and to those sat in different seating positions. Protection of thepelvis was adequate in the side barrier test and was good for all other body regions. In the more severe side poletest, chest protection was rated as marginal but was otherwise good or adequate. The seat and head restraintprovided good protection against whiplash injuries in a rear impact.

Maximumpoints were scored in the side barrier impact, with all body regions being well protected. In the more severe side poleimpact, chest protection was rated as marginal, based on dummy readings of rib deflections. Based on dummy readings, the Leaf was awarded maximum points for its protection of the 18 month infant in thedynamic tests. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward facing child restraint to be used in thatseating position. However, information provided to the driver about the status of the airbag is not sufficiently clear.Permanently attached labels clearly warn of the dangers of using a rearward facing child seat in that seat without firsthaving disabled the airbag.

The passenger compartment of the Leaf remained stable in the frontal impact. The stiff centre console and structuressurrounding the steering column posed a risk of injury to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes to thedummies used in the test, or to those sat in different positions. In the side barrier test the Leaf scored maximumpoints with all body regions being well protected. In the more severe side pole impact, protection of most bodyregions was good and that of the chest was adequate. The Leaf was tested with a live battery. No electrical hazardsor problems were encountered during any of the impact tests. The protection provided by the front seats and headrestraints against whiplash injuries in a rear impact was rated as marginal.

Electronic Stability Control is standard equipment on the 508. A driver-set speed limitation device is optional on basicgrade variants in a few European countries but is otherwise standard equipment. Sales as standard are expected toexceed Euro NCAP's 2011 fitment requirement (95%) and the system was rewarded. A seatbelt reminder is standardfor the driver, front passenger and rear seats.

    Pedestrian

    Safety assist

The protection provided by the bumper to pedestrians' legs was good in most areas tested but poor in some. Thefront edge of the bonnet offered poor or marginal protection. In most areas likely to be struck by a child's head, the

bonnet offered good protection. However, in those areas likely to be struck by an adult's head, the bonnet providedpoor protection.

Based on dummy readings in the dynamic tests, the 508 was awarded maximum points for its protection of the 3 yearinfant. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward facing child restraint to be used in that seatingposition. The switch is clearly labelled and unambiguous information is provided to the driver regarding the status ofthe airbag. The system was rewarded by Euro NCAP. Permanently attached labels clearly warn of the danger ofusing a rearward facing child seat in that position without first disabling the airbag.

The passenger compartment of the 508 remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated goodprotection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. Peugeot was able to show that a similar level ofprotection would be offered to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. Dummy readings ofthe ribs indicated adequate chest protection in the side barrier test, with good protection of the other critical bodyareas. In the more severe side pole test, chest protection was marginal. The seat and head restraint offered goodprotection against whiplash injuries in a rear-end impact.

Electronic Stability Control is standard equipment on the V60 and met Euro NCAP's test requirements. A driver-setspeed limitation device is also standard, along with a seatbelt reminder system for the driver, front passenger andrear seats.

    Pedestrian

    Safety assist

The bumper provided good protection in some of the areas tested and marginal in others. In most areas likely to bestruck by a child, the bonnet provided good protection against head injuries. In those areas likely to be struck by anadult's head, protection was predominantly poor but good in several of the areas tested.

    COMMENTS

    Adult occupant

    Child occupant

Both child dummies were seated rearward-facing in the frontal and side impact tests. The V60 gained maximumpoints for its protection of the dummies in the dynamic tests. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow arearward facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. However, information provided to the driverregarding the status of the airbag is not sufficiently clear. A non-permanent pictogram-only label gives insufficientwarning of the dangers of using a rearward facing restraint in this seating position without first disabling the airbag.

The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact, the windscreen pillar being deformed rearwardonly 1mm after the test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver andpassenger. Volvo showed that a similar level of protection would be provided for occupants of different sizes and tothose sat in different positions. In the side barrier test, the V60 scored maximum points, all body regions being well

protected. In the more severe side pole impact, dummy readings of rib compression indicated marginal protection ofthe chest. The seat and its fixed-position head restraint provided good protection against whiplash injuries in a rear-end collision.
