EUREKA! Summer Camps Pre – K (ages 3-5)

 EUREKA! Day Camps Ages: 3-5 years Times: 8:30am-5:30pm and Location: EUREKA! McConnell Science Museum / Community Room at New Life Member Fees: $150 per week Non Member Fees: $175 per week Half Day Options Morning Session Times: 8:30am-12:30pm Member Fee: $70 per week Non Member Fee: $80 per week Afternoon Session Times: 12:30pm-5:30pm Member Fee: $80 per week Non Member Fee: $90 per week To register for a morning or afternoon Pre-K session, please call 970-254-1626 and press 2 Daily Schedule: 8:30am-9:00am Drop Off 9am-12pm Science Lessons 12-1pm Lunch 1-2pm Quiet Time / Naps 2-5pm Science Lessons 5-5:30pm Pick Up Classes will be held at EUREKA!, the Community Room at the New Life building, and outdoors when the weather cooperates. Drop off and pick up will occur at the EUREKA! each day. All campers must be fully potty trained to attend Pre - K Camps.

Weekly Themes May 29-June 1 Curious George’s Grand Adventure Curious George is going on an adventure to discover what it takes to be a scientist! Join George this week and explore the world of science careers. Each evening of camp Curious George will venture out to make discoveries and then share his photos, activities and stories with campers the next day. Campers will be able to treat George’s “ouches” at the doctor’s office, become zookeepers and investigate animals, design an airplane to soar through the clouds like a pilot, and dress in their winter gear for a scientific expedition to the Arctic! This is a 4 day camp – reduced fees (see website). June 4-8 Space Explorers How do planets orbit the sun? Why does the moon have craters? Campers will explore the solar system, create galaxy slime, blast off rockets, and learn about astronauts in this out-of-this-world camp experience! June 11-15 Storybook Engineering Five Days. Five storybooks. Multiple STEM adventures. Each day of Storybook Engineering

we'll read a new story to spark curiosity and creativity while setting the stage for fun hands-on activities. Get ready to allow your storytime to take on a scientific twist! June 18-22 Splish, Splash, Water’s a Blast Campers will get to beat the heat and explore water during this wild and wet science camp! These lil hydrologists will learn about sinking, floating, melting, flowing, and will build a boat, make a pool noodle water wall, and more! June 25-29 Me & My Amazing Body What does the skull protect? Why do we blink? How can we take care of our bodies? Campers will discover and learn about their bodies through hands-on activities that include sensory bins, games, and 3D construction! July 9-13 Animal Planet Calling all young zoologists! Join the EUREKA! Staff as we dive into the Animal Planet to discover all kinds of animals, investigate animal habitats, ecosystems, and even fossils! Campers will explore the world of zoology - how plants and animals adapt to their environment and about the scientists who study and care for them.

EUREKA! Summer Camps Pre – K (ages 3-5)

 July 16-20 Imaginarium 101 Campers will learn what it takes to imagine, plan, and create structures like a bridge for elephants, a boat that can float, and the tallest tower! July 23-27 Weird & Wacky Chemistry Get weird and wacky with some awesome chemistry. It's going to be crazy as we mix up some explosive, slimy, and color changing chemistry! Campers will take chemistry to the next level, developing usable materials through the crazy world of chemistry! July 30-August 3 Under the Sea Be a marine biologist and explore the awesome world under the sea! Campers will learn about the marine creatures that make their homes beneath the surface. See how they live, breathe, eat, survive & find some treasures too. Get a glimpse of the life below and above the surface, and what scientists do to explore and conserve the world’s oceans. August 6-10 Lil Meteorologists What is the weather? Can the weather be predicted? How does that happen? Campers will become meteorologists in training as they explore the science of weather. Experiment with how precipitation forms,

learn about cloud formations, make tornadoes, and learn how to track the wind with a weathervane in this weatheriffic camp!

Mixtures, bubbling potions, explosions, elephant toothpaste, dancing oobleck, using a chemical reaction to float a balloon and more! Campers will explore the basics of chemistry with fun, hands-on experiments and activities. June 11-15 Imaginarium 201 Campers will learn what it takes to imagine, plan, and create structures like a bridges, houses, and parks. Together, they’ll create a cityscape that’s never been seen before! June 18-22 Roar, Roar, Dinosaur! Did you know that T-Rex had terrible vision? That Diloposaurus spit!? Or that Vilocoraptors hunted in twos or in packs? Campers will learn about the adaptations dinosaurs used to survive, hatch a dinosaur egg, learn about fossils, rock formations, volcanoes, and become paleontologists as they

dig for dinosaur bones in this prehistoric science camp! June 25-29 Physics Phun This camp makes learning about physics concepts of magnetism, gravity, circuits, forces of nature PHUN! Come test the laws of physics with us and make Newton proud! July 2-3 Lego Engineering I Does your child like building with LEGOS? This camp will allow students to use LEGOS to engineer various things that solve problems. From catapults to simple machines, students will use LEGOS to build their answers. This is a 2 day camp – reduced fees (see website). July 5-6 Lego Engineering II Is your child looking for more LEGO challenges after LEGO Engineering I Camp? Or, was your child not able to attend the LEGO Engineering I Camp? This camp is the perfect fit for both types of campers! Students will be given new challenges in this camp and will need to use the engineering design process to build their solutions using LEGOs. This is a 2 day camp – reduced fees (see website).

 July 9-13 Water, Water, Everywhere! What causes something to sink or float? How do scientists help explore and protect the ocean below? These questions and more are all explored in this exciting camp about H20! July 16-20 Icky, Sticky, Gooey Learn about gross and interesting body facts! Did you know that over a lifetime, you’ll produce enough saliva to fill almost two swimming pools!? Why are feet smelly? What is the purpose of mucus? Did you know most dust is dead skin? Join us for a week of “grossology camp” to learn about these questions and more! July 23-27 EUREKA! Goes Green Repurposing leftover scraps, bubble wrap art, transforming household items into something more valuable, finding uses for those broken crayons, and more! In this upcycling camp, campers will use the engineering design process to explore ways to create usable items from items that would otherwise end up in the landfill. EUREKA! Goes Green is the ultimate reusing camp where we will make the best out of the trash can and recycling bin!

July 30-August 3 PokeScience Lava, thunderwaves, slime, flames, aquatic creatures, and thundershocks. Learn the science behind the different Pokeman powers of Pikachu, Squirtle, Charmander, Muck, and Charizard and more! PLUS, students will get to hatch their own Pokemon eggs. August 6-10 Creatures of the Monument Coyotes, eagles, mountain lions, lizards, desert bighorn sheep, canyon tree frogs. Learn about the animals who call the Colorado National Monument’s semiarid environment home. Join us as we explore these bizarre, amazing, and sometimes dangerous creatures found in our own backyards! August 13-14 Spa Science This camp will allow you to turn your bathtub into a chemistry lab! Campers will design soap, make bath bombs, mix fragrant potions, and more. Come explore in this spa-mazing camp that will surely make bath time bubbling with excitement! This is a 2 day camp – reduced fees (see website).

EUREKA! WCRC Day Camps Times: 8:30am-5:30pm and Location: Western Colorado Research Center

Member Fees: $50 for 2 days Non Member Fees: $60 for 2 days August 13-14 Cooking in the Garden Come out to the CSU Western Colorado Research Center for this exciting two day camp! Spend the mornings in the veggie garden and peach orchards. Then, turn your harvest into delicious dishes. Learn a thing or two along the way about where our food comes from and how to build a healthy diet. Campers will come home with food so they can cook at home for their families too! EUREKA! PLUS, campers will be able to use Makey Makey kits to add sound, lights and more to

their cardboard, duct tape, and foil arcade creations! This is a 4 day camp – reduced fees (see website). June 4-8 Science + Clay Investigate how clays are used in landfills and water treatment, learn about the chemistry of clay, and become a clay engineer for a week! This STEAM-based camp will include two clay-based art lessons with artists from The Art Center. Don’t miss out on this claystic science experience! June 11-15 Upcycling for the Environment Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. These familiar options help us lower our impact on the environment. But what about UPCYCLING?! In this camp, campers will learn the advantages of upcycling trash into treasure to reduce their carbon footprint. We’ll investigate how far trash travels across the planet, what happens when stuff is thrown away, and explore ways to create usable items from what would otherwise end up in the landfill. Upcycling for the Environment Camp lets campers use their creative science juices to make the world more sustainable, one project at a time! June 18-22 Stop Motion Animation Have you ever wondered how Disney movies are produced?

This camp will allow you to discover what it takes to be a filmmaker and bring drawings and characters to life using stop motion animation. By the end of this camp, the campers will have used a green-screen background to produce several stop motion animation videos that depict their characters following a storyline that they created! At the end of the camp, camper’s ‘stop motion videos will be saved on a complimentary USB Drive to share with family and friends. June 25-29 Gamers Camp Ga Ga Ball, Human Fooseball, Backyard Outdoor Games. The new EUREKA! McConnell Science Museum has great outdoor space, yet it’s lacking play equipment and games! Be ready to use your creative ideas to design and then build games and structures to enhance the outdoor play space at EUREKA! in this exciting engineering camp! July 2-3 The EUREKA! Challenge I The EUREKA! Challenge is part STEM, part Survivor, and two days of fun! Campers will be split into tribes to complete a series of STEM challenges ranging from using a potato to create electricity to creating a solar oven to Minecraft, and more! This is a 2 day camp – reduced fees (see website).

  July 5-6 The EUREKA! Challenge II Did The EUREKA! Challenge I leave you wanting more adventures in STEM? Or, were you not able to attend The EUREKA! Challenge I Camp? This camp is the perfect fit for both types of campers! Students will be given new challenges in this STEM Survivor camp and will need to be ready to have fun while competing with their tribe to solve a variety of STEM challenges. Are you ready?! This is a 2 day camp – reduced fees (see website). July 9-13 Rocks That Glow What makes rocks glow? Why do some rocks glow under a black light? What is the glow called? Live the life of a geologist for five days, find out the answers to these questions, grow your own geodes, and more as you learn about rocks, minerals, and mining! The EUREKA! cave exhibit will be a key feature of this camp that is sure to teach campers that Geology Rocks. July 16-20 Forensic Science Have you ever wondered what happens in forensic labs during an investigation? Campers will become crime scene investigators who search for clues, make observations, crack codes, collect scientific evidence, and solve a crime! Through

hands-on lab tests, students will learn how investigators match crime scene DNA to suspects, take fingerprints, and much more. July 23-27 Amusement & Water Park Physics How do the laws of physics affect the design of rides at amusement and water parks? Do you wish you could design rides for amusement and water parks? Learn about hydraulics, harnessing the forces of gravity, and simple machines as you construct carousels, swing rides, paddle wheels, waterslides, and roller coasters with loops, corkscrews, and twists in this camp filled of wild rides! July 30-August 3 3D Printing Camp 3D designing and printing is one of the fastest growing STEM fields! Students will learn about the process industrial designers use to take an idea and bring it to life with a 3D printer. Participants will learn the basics of 3D CAD design, 3D scanning, and 3D printing. August 6-10 Cracking the Code A STEAM-based escape room camp that will challenge campers to discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks to “crack the code” before time runs out! We’ll investigate how far trash travels across the planet, what happens when stuff is thrown away, and explore ways to create usable

items from what would otherwise end up in the landfill. Upcycling for the Environment Camp lets campers use their creative science juices to make the world more sustainable, one project at a time! June 11-15 Stop Motion Animation Have you ever wondered how Disney movies are produced? This camp will allow you to discover what it takes to be a filmmaker and bring drawings and characters to life using stop motion animation. By the end of this camp, the campers will have used a green-screen background to produce several stop motion animation videos that depict their characters following a storyline that they created! At the end of the camp, your stop motion videos will be saved on a complimentary USB Drive to share with family and friends. June 18-22 Cardboard Arcade Campers will use their imagination and the engineering design process to build vintage style arcade games out of cardboard. PLUS, campers will be able to use Makey Makey kits to add sound, lights and more to their cardboard, duct tape, and foil arcade creations! June 25-29

Forensic Science Have you ever wondered what happens in forensic labs during an investigation? Campers will become crime scene investigators who search for clues, make observations, crack codes, collect scientific evidence, and solve a crime! Through hands-on lab tests, students will learn how investigators match crime scene DNA to suspects, take fingerprints, and much more. July 9-13 Cracking the Code A STEAM-based escape room camp that will challenge campers to discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks to “crack the code” before time runs out! July 16-20 Amusement & Water Park Physics How do the laws of physics affect the design of rides at amusement and water parks? Do you wish you could design rides for amusement and water parks? June 25-29 CSI Investigation Are you a future forensic scientist? Unravel a mystery by conducting a mock investigation and collecting evidence! In this camp, you’ll learn cutting edge techniques used by forensic scientists such as fingerprinting and capturing a print, fiber and powder analysis, blood trail tracking, trajectory analysis, and casting shoe prints. The camp culminates with investigating mock crime scenes where students put their skills to the test to collect evidence, photograph and sketch the scene, and figure out how the crime happened. July 9-13 Sports Science This new and exciting camp will allow campers to implement their classroom learning at the Monfort Family Human Performance Lab on the Colorado Mesa University Campus. Each day of camp, students will learn about sports science topics at EUREKA! and will finish their day at the Human Performance Lab to test their newly learned sports concept through the use of the giant treadmill, electromyography, force plates, Vicon 3D motion capture, high speed analysis and more!

This hands-on rocket building camp will feature fizzy flyers, pop bottle rockets, and Estes Rockets to teach campers about the history, mechanics, and structure of rockets. At the end of the camp, students will be awarded a Civil Air Patrol Rocketry certificate. The Kerbal Space Program, a space flight simulation video game, will also be incorporated into this camp that will surely launch your aerospace science curiosity! July 23-27 Neuroscience, Human Physiology, & Robotic Arm Design How do cell circuits enable us to read and speak? How do we think, remember, despair, or motivate? Neuroscientists explore possible causes of disorders of the brain and body, as well as ways to prevent or cure them. Campers will learn how robotics can help connect our human physiology by designing a prototype of a bionic arm.

You’ve just been hired by Rocky Mountain Labs—a premier chemistry laboratory. Join your new coworkers to conduct research on a variety of household products, test your ideas and make recommendations based on your findings. Chemists in this camp might analyze reaction rates to help design an instant cold pack, extract the chemical components of toothpaste to evaluate its effectiveness, or learn about the chemistry of cooking. The chemists and their team will choose your chemistry adventures in this camp! Test tubes, variables, and controls will all be used as campers take on the life of chemists this weekend.

EUREKA! Summer Camps Incoming 9th-12th Grade

 EUREKA! Leadership Camps Times: 8:30am-5:30pm Location: EUREKA! McConnell Science Museum Member Fees: $50 per 2 week camp Non Member Fees: $60 per 2 week camp The Leadership Camps are two weeks long and each will have a specific focus designed to provide high school students entering 10th-12th grade with opportunities that will promote personal growth and will hopefully lead to a paid EUREKA! Internship in the future. Under guidance from the EUREKA! STEAM Instructor, CITs will work alongside EUREKA! Instructors to gain valuable experience teaching science and working with kids. Above all, the CIT Program will allow participants to walk away with valuable leadership skills that will serve them well at home, in school, and in their community. The opportunity to do this while having a positive impact on EUREKA! Day Campers (ages 5-12) is not to be missed! The CIT Program is for students who have demonstrated responsibility, maturity, enthusiasm, a genuine interest in working with kids, and are passionate about science.

Leadership Focus June 4-15 Communication Skills & Teamwork Learn how the EUREKA! team works together to achieve a common goal: getting science into the hands of kids. Investigate leadership styles, discover your dominant leadership style, and improve your ability to communicate to co-instructors and students to maximize understanding. June 18-29 Lesson Plans & Teaching Learn how to write effective science lesson plans, practice teaching to day campers (ages 5-12), and learn how to make science learning fun! July 9-20 Classroom Management How do you get the attention of your students? How do you set the stage at camps to prevent behavior problems in the first place? What do you do when a student misbehaves? This camp will cover all of these and more! You’ll be able to observe EUREKA! Instructors utilizing these techniques and be able to try them yourself.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The EUREKA! McConnell Science Museum aims to bring “science to the hands of kids”. The Youth Scholarship Program is designed for those students who need financial assistance to participate in Eureka! Science Camps.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Applications will be accepted up until two weeks prior to the camp start date

Applications must be signed be signed by a parent/guardian of the applicant

Applications must be complete to be considered

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be under 18 years of age

Applicants must provide a current Free/Reduced Lunch approval letter from School

District 51 OR a copy of a current Medicaid Card, Marillac Clinic Card, or CHP+ Card

Applicants must provide a new application for each camp

SCHOLARSHIP REVIEW & AWARD PROCESS:

Applications will be reviewed by EUREKA! Staff upon receipt to determine eligibility. Approved applications will be awarded a 75% scholarship. Please note that scholarship funds are limited. If funds are depleted, scholarship applications will be placed on hold until further funding is received. Scholarships are available for all youth science camps including EUREKA! Day Camps, EUREKA! CMU Overnight Camps, EUREKA! Expedition Camps, and EUREKA! Leadership Camps. Applicants will be limited to three (3) scholarships per calendar year. Of the thee (3) scholarships no more than one (1) scholarship will be issued per applicant for:

EUERKA! CMU Overnight Camp

EUREKA! Expedition Camp REGISTRATION PROCESS:

Applicants will be notified of scholarship award and registration process via email. Camp registration will be the responsibility of the applicant. Scholarship approval does not automatically register the applicant into the program. PRIVACY POLICY:
