Help Share Our Message! The following is a brief response to questions often asked about Freemasonry: what is Freemasonry, what is its origin, when and where did it start, who started it, and what is its purpose.
Freemasonry is the oldest and the largest fraternal order in the world. It is a universal brotherhood of men dedicated to serving God, family, fellowman and country. Although the moral philosophy of Freemasonry is founded upon religious principles, it is not a religion, nor is it a substitute for religion. Candidates for membership (adult males) are however, expected to profess a belief in a God, and be of good moral character. Come join us.

Brothers, The most important part of any Masonic gath-ering is not the business, but the fellowship. We have meals before meetings to foster this fellowship.
This lodge is your lodge, and your friends are welcome— bring them to dinner. Our Grand Staff Visitation is this month. Please come out and enjoy the fellowship. Ladies night is coming on May 13, 2017, pre-pare your ladies. We are joining with Granite-Corinthian and Brandywine—to be held at Tim-othy’s on the waterfront in Wilmington If you need tickets, see an officer.

March Masonic Birthdays
Brothers, last month was our much re-scheduled
Grand Staff Visitation and was a great success
After a little rough patch at the beginning your WM
recovered and managed to pull out the stops for
our Most Worshipful Grand Master Dale Irwin and
his staff. Thanks to all the brothers who helped and
continue to help make the lodge a success. In
particular, I’d like to mention PM Dave Simkins as a
hero of the evening in insuring we had a delicious
and impressive event for our guests.
IMPORTANT.
1) At the stated communication this month, we
will be conferring the degree on two new
Entered Apprentice brothers. 11-May
2) Also, this month we will be raising a brother (or
two) to the sublime degree. 18-May
All are invited to come to these meetings/degrees
and to attempt to seize the TRAVELLING GAVEL
from its rightful home. However, only Master
Masons can attend the raisings.
Wow, the year is almost over and flown right by.
The June Meeting will be a Picnic— Open to friends
and family. Lodge will be 11-12, picnic will be 11-
3pm. Invite someone!!
Our brothers have qualified to advance through the
line for next year. If you have an interest in getting
into the line and started to work toward the east,
see one of the lodge officers. We are looking for
dedicated brothers.
If you haven’t been to lodge in a while, please
consider coming out again. We would love to have
you back in your lodge. So Mote It Be!

From the East The Holy Saints John In what is called the Old York Lecture from about 1770 in England has the following as part of its EA catechism: "Q. To whom were the lodges dedicated during the Mosaic dispensation?" A. To Moses, the chosen of God, and Solomon, the son of David." "Q. And under what name were the Masons known during that period?" "A. Under the name of Dionysiacs, Geometricians, or Masters in Israel.” "Q. But as Solomon was a Jew, and died long before the promulgation of Christianity, to whom were they dedicated under the Christian dispensation?" "A. From Solomon the patronage of Masonry passed to St. John the Baptist." "Q. And under what name were they known after the promulgation of Christianity?" "A. Under the name of Essenes, Architects, or Freemasons." "Q. Why were the lodges dedicated to St. John the Baptist?" "A. Because he was the forerunner of our Saviour, and by preaching repentance and humiliation, drew the first parallel of the Gospel." "Q. Had St. John the Baptist any equal?" "A. He had; St. John the Evangelist." "Q. Why was he said to be the equal of the Baptist?" "A. Because he finished by his learning what the other began by his zeal, and thus drew a second line parallel to the former; ever since which time Freemason's lodges in all Christian countries, have been dedicated to the one, or the other, or both of these worthy and worshipful men."
The Preston Lectures, which is what our own rituals are based upon (by way of Thomas Smith Webb in the US), were the standard in England until the reconciliation between the "Ancient" and
134 Years in Masonry Combined!!
Come to Lodge in celebration of your
Masonic Birthdays Brothers!
Monthly Message "Modern" factions in 1813, when a compromise was
developed. References to the Saints were removed, the
parallel lines were said to represent Moses and
Solomon, and the lodges dedicated "to God and his
service." Our English brethren removed the saints to
eliminate any hint of religious sectarianism.
In our American version, one of the least understood
symbols is a certain point within a circle, bounded by
two parallel lines, with the volume of sacred law at the
top.
The symbol is actually based on an old astrological and
alchemical symbol. The point in the center represented
the Earth, which was thought to be the center of the
universe. The heavens were believed to spin around the
Earth, represented by the circle. The two lines
represented the summer and winter solstices, the
longest and shortest days of the year. For thousands of
years, these days were celebrated as pagan feast days
all over the world, and they were especially important
to farming societies, because they were the
astronomical methods of determining planting seasons.
In about 300A.D., the Catholic Church began to
dedicate popular pagan feast days to the saints. June
24th, the longest day of the year, was declared St. John
the Baptist day, while December 27th, the shortest day,
was dedicated to St. John the Evangelist. Collectively,
Masons refer to them as the Holy Saints John.
John the Baptist was zealous, while John the Evangelist
was learned, and by picking both of them as patron
saints, Masons symbolically united both passion and
reason.
The Grand Lodge of England was founded in London
on St. John the Baptist's day, 24 June 1717.
