From the Principal

Welcome to week six of Term four. 2017 seems to be going by very quickly.

Students are invited to have a bit of dress up fun on Melbourne Cup day and wear a fancy hat, socks or tie on Tuesday. Gold coin donation please.

I have been very pleased with the progress of students in this year’s Swimming Program. Marcus and his Instructors at

Mooloolah are working successfully with our students. Children being confident and safe in and around water is important in

our sunshine state and I once again thank our hard working P&C members who support this program and keep the costs down for families. If you would like to contribute to our school

by joining the P&C, the next P&C meeting is on Wednesday 22nd of November at 3.00pm in the school library.

Today I had a sneak preview of our students singing and preparing for the Eudlo Carols by Candlelight which will be held at 5.00pm on

Wednesday 6th of December. It was such a happy sound and Mrs Galloway had the students enthralled with a very ‘rocking’ approach to some traditional songs. Because this is the first time the Eudlo community is having a Carols by Candle light evening we are having our own School Celebration and year 6

Graduation just before at 3.30pm in the newly refurbished B block. The time and venue is changed from previous years so that our school can join in

with this community event.

An important message to all our students is to finish the year strong. I urge all parents to continue to encourage and supervise homework tasks and nightly reading. Teachers will be busy over the final weeks of term with assessment and report card writing. Attendance at school every day is important.

Save the Date

The staff of Eudlo SS would like to offer parents a well, deserved night off. This is our Christmas gift to Eudlo families. We hope that parents will take advantage of the evening to do Christmas shopping without children or simply reconnect with a night out. On Thursday the 30 of November we will have a movie and games night. The children are invited to come to the school from 5.00pm to 9.30pm and for $5 they will receive dinner and a movie.

Positions Vacant

Our school staff would also like to know if there is a parent available to assist in the writing of Grants ($) that may be applicable to our school needs. I know the council has a website and often offers training on grant writing so if you feel this could be a manner in which you could support our school please contact the office.

A big thankyou to James Dankworth for repairing the fish pond and its edging. Last year James moved an enormous amount of bark chip for our school in the lead up to the car and bike show. Acts of kindness and support like this are always appreciated.

We would also like to thank the Sven Arens for donating a large fridge to the school. This will enable children to keep their lunches cool.

Science Reports from Year 4-6

In Science today we conducted an experiment testing the

viscosity of different liquids. Viscosity is the liquids

resistance to flowing. The viscosity of liquids vary

depending on the type of ingredients that are put into the

substance. The viscosity depends on how the molecules are

placed. The closer they are, the higher the viscosity. So, in

our experiment we had 3 liquids. Honey, oil and BBQ sauce.

The ingredients that go into it matter.

At the same time we poured all 3 liquids into the bottom of

a paper cup which had a hole in the centre. As soon as we

started to pour the liquids in, another member of the group

started the timer and we lapped the timer every time a

liquid touched the tidy tray. The oil was 24 seconds. The

honey was 48 seconds. And the BBQ sauce has taken over

an hour.

So from the experiment we concluded that BBQ sauce has

the highest viscosity.

Written by Jack Girdler

Today we tested liquid viscosity, and we chose 3 liquids.

They were honey, vinegar and cordial. Honey was the

highest viscosity, our time for our honey was 02.58.48 - it

was slow! Vinegar was in the middle with 00.02.83, then the

lowest viscosity was cordial which came in with 00.01.22.

Phew that was quick!

The people in our group were me/Tasharna, Layla and Isla.

We had fun and worked well together. The steps were:

1. Decide how to measure

2. Release liquid at a time and record

3. Record results in a book

4. Now compare and you have a done an

experiment!

Breakfast Club on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

mornings is proving a big hit for the students. Teachers have noticed an increase in their student’s concentration throughout the day.

If parents can assist Chappy in the morning for 30 minutes he would very much appreciate it.
