Vibrant Tobagonian gospel artist Joel ‘Positive’ Mur-

ray is one of the country’s most promising prospects in the enter-tainment field. His signature tune from six years ago entitled ‘Never Let Go’ is a modern day classic which propelled him toward the success and fame he achieved thus far. Now in his seventh year as a recording and performing ar-tiste, Positive’s light continues to shine brightly as he continues his artistic growth. Fans of the artiste with the unmistakable voice will soon witness a couple changes as Murray has added to his reper-toire by expanding his genres and modifying his live sets.

ET&T contacted Positive’s camp for an update on the star and we were met with a few wel-come surprises in terms of the information received. Represent-ative Kern Cowan divulged that Positive will soon be releasing new singles; a couple of which are actually Groovy Soca tracks. These songs comprise new mate-rial which will be added to a re-re-

lease of last year’s spectacular For-ever My King album. The album which was released in October 2012 is Positives’ second album and has received rave reviews by critics worldwide.

Positive has enlisted the tal-ents of young hit-making produc-er KC Phillips of Precision stu-dios for his new singles. He also recently collaborated on material with Supa Dups.

The appeal of the album has led to several overseas perfor-mances for Murray who has re-cently returned from Antigua. There will be little rest for the star as Cowan gave us an update on his busy itinerary. Trips to the Ba-hamas, St. Kitts, a return visit to Antigua and more are lined up. These are part of the 2nd incarna-tion of the Forever My King tour. Cowan states that a third tour will commence next year upon the re-release of the album.

Apart from his Groovy Soca foray, the artiste will also be pre-senting himself in a new light dur-ing performances. Fans can look

out for positive to be backed by his own band when he performs. The band known as the Signature Band will provide live instrumen-tation to Positive’s sets which would suit the singers’ one-drop heavy style well. No doubt having a live band will help Positive to develop as an entertainer.

Locals can witness the early stages of his growth as positive and his Signature Band will hit the stage at the upcoming Glow-fest event in Tobago presented by Glow Entertainment. He will share the stage with featured acts Helen Baylor and Papa San at the Buccoo Integrated Facilities venue.

Previously, Murray has per-formed with some of the biggest names in Gospel both locally and internationally. Mary Mary, Israel Houghton, Deitrick Hadden and Vashawn Mitchell are some of the popular members of the gospel fraternity while he also performed with Morgan Heritage, Buju Ban-ton and Jah Cure among others.

The singer is most certainly

blessed. This is a fact he has not neglected as evidenced by a recent facebook post. Positive took to the social media site to show his thanks for lasting seven years in the industry and spoke about his newest release aptly titled Bless-ing After Blessing.

“This year I celebrate 7 years as Positive. There have been many ups and downs but as I take time to re-flect, it has been the blessing of the Lord that has kept me going this long. Through music I have traveled to countries I only dreamed of visit-ing just spreading the goodness of God. For this cause, my next single is entitled "Blessing After Blessing". Everything I have attained it was be-cause God chose to bless me. Thanks to everyone who continues to support me. This is the 7th Chapter of Posi-tive. #JourneyTo3rdAlbum”

He also hinted at the possibil-ity of another blessing via face-book when he answered a fan’s question about his marital status. In a September 9th post, the fan asked if there was truth to the ru-mour he was married and he per-sonally replied by saying: “Lol… I'm not married, never have been but I hope to be soon to my beauti-ful gf [girlfriend]. Who knows maybe 2014.”

In any event ET&T wishes Murray well as he continues to represent Trinidad and Tobago admirably. Look out for his new releases coming soon.

San Fernando, Trinidad’s own Renee Bhagwandeen has

continued her ascendency in the acclaimed America’s Next Top Model competition having pro-gressed to the next round. The reality TV program which began in 2003 is in its 20th cycle and is aired on cable television’s CW network. Its premise originated with supermodel and television personality Tyra Banks, who ad-ditionally serves as its executive producer and presenter. The judg-ing panel consists of Banks, Kelly Cutrone, and Rob Evans.

The newest cycle of the show is likely to provide an even sterner test for contestants the number of participants has been increased from the usual number of 14. Also, males have been in-troduced into the competition for the first time.

This speaks volumes for Ms. Bhagwandeen who has been

consistent with her level of suc-cess throughout the first seven

episodes of the program. Now she will need even more sup-

port from fans both domestic and abroad as competition gets stiffer. Bhagwandeen’s prolonged exposure on the show can only bode well for branding Trinidad and Tobago as a hub for potential models while cementing its place as having some of the most beau-tiful women in the world.

Not only will she market herself and her country, but Bhagwandeen is setting herself up for a chance to win some of the show’s premium prizes. The prizes for this cycle are: a mod-eling contract with NEXT Model Management, a spread in Nylon magazine, and a US$100,000 campaign with Guess.

Before her foray into ANTM, Renee was a two-time entrant in the Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe pageant. She fared well in both 2011 and 2012 and copped the Miss Photogenic Award in 2011.

tours under his belt as lead vocal-ist for Caribbean Rock fusion band Orange Sky, Nigel Rojas looks forward to a bright future of unfolding developments while enjoying a 2013 full of amazing musical evolution.

Nigel, who is currently enjoy-ing heavy rotation with the infec-tious, nation-building track “Blue Skies Ahead”, has been having a tremendous year both with his band and as an individual artiste.

The Trinidadian singer-song-writer whose influences range from Rock greats Motley Crue and AC/DC to Caribbean music icons Bob Marley, Lord Kitchen-er and Andre Tanker made major waves with “Differentology” his Carnival collaboration with Bun-ji Garlin and is showing no signs of musical stagnation as the last quarter of the year approaches.

Along with Orange Sky, Nigel recently performed for interna-tional music industry executives

at the recent AMMBCON music business conference showcase and also shared the stage with cel-ebrated Reggae stars Sizzla Kalon-ji, Richie Spice and Anthony B at the Good Life Music Festival. For this event Rojas and band performed a set which comprised of original Reggae and Rapso in-fused material as well as the sin-gle “Love Each Other” which was

composed by Rojas and featured T&T Reggae acts Marlon Asher, Jah Melody, Prophet Benjamin and Mr. King.

Regarding his involvement in the Good Life Music Festival he shared, “I feel really great about par-ticipating in this concert; it is always a great honour to share the stage with artistes that I love and admire. In this event there were many such ar-

tiste. However, the local Reggae per-formers are very close to my heart”.

In between gigs with his band, the consummate musician keeps himself occupied with compos-ing and producing radio ads and playing the guitar at weddings, corporate functions, diplomatic events and top local and regional hotels and restaurants.

Additionally, later this year the hard-working family man also intends to launch a guitar in-strumental CD entitled “Sunset Siesta” along with a supporting instrumental concert.

Always one who is poised to take on the next adventure and never one to be creatively compla-cent, Nigel is constantly experi-menting with new sounds and developing new ideas.

The Trinidad Theatre Work-shop will be restarting its

acting workshops in September for children, teens and adults.

Children Theatre Workshop starts on Saturday 7th September and continues for every Saturday until 14th December. Classes will be between the hours of 10am and 1pm and will be taught by Tyker Phillips. The cost is $1,600 and open to children between the ages of 7 and 12.

Teen Theatre Workshop starts the same day, Saturday 7th September and runs for the same period, every Saturday, until 14th December. Classes will be be-tween the hours of 1pm to 4pm, just after the Children’s work-

shop. This class will be taught by Afi Ford-Hopson to teenagers be-tween the ages of 13 and 17 and costs $1,800.

New Actor’s Workshop starts on Wednesday 11th September and runs for every Wednesday until 14th December from 6pm to 9pm. This class is open to ages 18 and over and will be taught by Timmia Hearn. The fee for this workshop is $1,800.

BuJu BANTON SET TO RELEASE AN ALBuM SuMMER 2014Tracii McGregor, a member of Buju’s management is saying that fans can expect a new album from the embattled deejay as soon as next summer. McGregor revealed that most of the tracks on the currently untitled album were recorded while he was out on bail in 2011.

Among the producers who

worked on the set are Blacker Dread (who produced the song In-nocent from Banton’s last studio al-bum), Stephen Marley and Banton himself.

Buju’s last album Before The Dawn, was released in 2010, the same year Banton was arrested by Federal agents in Florida for at-tempting to sell cocaine. Before The Dawn won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2011.

The pending album will be his 11th studio effort, after several

groundbreaking and legendary ef-forts such as; Too Bad, Mr Mention, Inna Heights, Til Shiloh, Friends For Life and Unchained Spirit.

Released in 1995, Til Shiloh has been described as the jewel in the Buju Banton crown.

Shiloh marked his conversion to Rastafari and included mega hits like Untold Stories, Not An Easy Road and Til I’m Laid to Rest.

your face, the body part we likely spend the most atten-

tion on. Rather than spend all that money on a brand name, persuasively advertised jar of cream here’s an idea: wash your face; properly. Washing your face every day is the most crucial pro-cess of skin care, regardless of age or skin type. When you wash your face you remove any impurities, makeup residue and oil which if not removed may lead to near all of your skin problems that has sent us to Pennywise, be it clogged pores (root cause of blackheads), whiteheads, pimples, spots and so on. The range of facial cleansers (you might think is the widest in the beauty arena but this is actu-ally easily topped by soap, so now you know this highly important bit of information) is extensive and includes foams, gels, creams designed for every skin type from oily to hypersensitive. Aim for cleansers that gently clean the skin without irritating it, they remove all the impurities like dirt or oil, that have accumulated during the day or during the night, leaving the skin clean, tight and soft.

Tie your hair back from your face. Then wash your hands with a good antibacte-rial soap to clean them, laugh but Protex is forever. Wet your face with warm water or steam to open your pores. Put a small amount of face cleanser on your hands, about the size of a nickel. Rub some on your wet hands. Use a product that is gentle enough for your skin. Something too strong will just dry the skin out and stimulate the oil glands to produce more oil. You are try-ing to remove oil and retain water (moisture) at the same time. Do not use soap: it is generally too strong, and can't be rinsed easily. Work up a good lather by rubbing both hands together and applying it on your face.

Using your fingertips, massage the cleanser all

over your face removing dirt and oil. Take 30 seconds or so, concentrating first on the hairline, then paying special at-tention to the "T-zone"; forehead, nose, nostril area, then around the mouth and chin, then cheeks. Cleanse the neck using upward strokes. You have oil glands be-hind your ears, so don't neglect that area; it's messy, but do it anyway. 40 years from now you’ll be glad you went through the trouble. Rinse your face and neck

with clear, tepid water. If it is too cold, it could break capillaries. Pat your face dry with a clean and soft, absorbent towel; linen is a good choice. Make sure you pat it dry gently, don’t scrub yourself silly - always treat your face with respect.

If you have large pores, a ton-er or astringent, is a good idea to help tighten the pores. It will also clean away the last of the cleans-er. Moisturizer is a good thing. Having just washed off

dirt and oil, a moisturizer will help keep the water in the sur-face cells, which promotes a more youthful look.

Don’t forget eye cream. Use one that says it is for eyes only; otherwise it won't be rich enough. The area around your eyes has no sweat or oil glands, and must be treated differently than other skin. Do this every morning and every night for the best result on your route to clean and clear skin flawless.

Belmont-based beauty Krystal Khayne is as dynamic a per-

sonality as one can have the pleas-ure of meeting. She possesses the looks and talent to back the larg-est of egos, yet she remains hum-ble in conversation. This is not at all to say that she is shy. The for-mer Imij & Co female lead owns an enviable realness and efferves-cence that compels you to want to know more about her. It is the stuff true stars are made of; and now that she is back on the solo entertainment circuit Khayne will rely heavily on these qualities. Un-doubtedly, her music will also do a fair share of talking for her with her powerful vocals being the base of a couple current radio releases. Yet, the onus was on her to step into the Hot Seat and personally answer a few questions.

ET&T: Have you ever held a job away from entertainment?KK: My first job was at Scotia Bank. While I was at school I would have summer jobs at Scotia and naturally when school was over the first place I went was Scotia. After that I worked at Sagicor for three years.

ET&T: Is it safe to say you would be in Finance if you weren’t an entertainer?KK: I’d be dead. That’s an exaggeration, but I’d be miserable without music. If I had to do something else I’d be writing… songs, poems… I was always a creative person.

ET&T: Do you currently write songs for other people?KK: Not yet. Right now I have a ton of songs that I can just give away. There is one song in particular that is just awesome, but I don’t think I will do justice to it. It’s a groovy soca song. I can do a Pop remix to it and sing it myself, but in my head it is made for a

particular artiste and I’m actually going to give it to her and see if she’ll want it.

ET&T: Are you religious?KK: I’m spiritual. I grew up in church, but I don’t believe we should live by what ‘man’ says. I’m not for all of the rituals. I believe that God exists – whatever you want to call him, Jah, Yahweh, Jehovah – I focus on what he means to me. It doesn’t hurt to believe in something. I’m not religious at all, but I believe in God.

ET&T: Based on your experiences thus far, is there anyone in the industry you would not work with again?KK: There is someone, but I have to remain professional, so I’ll withhold who it is.

ET&T: Which two local celebs do you think would make the best sextape?KK: OMG! You are trying to get me in trouble. Pause… There are two people in mind, but they are my friends and I don’t want them

to think I look at that in that kind of way.

ET&T: you project an alluring, sexy image which males would surely appreciate, but have any females inside or outside of the industry ever made any advances toward you?KK: Yes: both in the industry and out of the industry. This happens to me a lot. Especially within the last year. I don’t know if I have something printed on me or what. Personally, I am pro heterosexuality, but I would never judge. I have tons of gay friends and they are wonderful people, but personally I prefer the man/woman dynamic.

ET&T: Name three things on your bucket list.KK: To meet Mariah Carey (I love her). To be nominated for a Grammy award. I’m not even saying to win, but just to be nominated and just to achieve some level real success in this level that I am in.

ET&T: you would be privy to certain backstage experiences. Ever encountered any backstage bacchanal? If so, please share.KK: I am very happy to report that I am a very boring person that not a lot of crap happens around. In my little experience within the industry I have never witnessed any backstage bacchanal.

ET&T: What’s next for you?KK: A lot more Pop releases… The name of the game is exposure because I’m reintroducing myself to people. I found I got pigeon-

holed into the soca thing when I joined Imij. Part of the reason I joined Imij was they weren’t completely “soca.” I’m an artist, not a “soca artist”. I make music I am inspired to make. My new ventures are to show my versatility. I don’t want to get pigeon-holed again.

ET&T: Are you saying that you would never join a band again? KK: I’m not seeing it in my immediate future. You never know what the future holds, but right now I don’t see it happening.

ET&T: Do you find it difficult making your particular brand of music sustainable in Trinidad?

KK: It can be a little daunting in Trinidad, but we have set our sights elsewhere. Yes, I have to be accepted by my people, but we have links that we are actively pursuing to make it on the outside. It’s a lot of hard work, but nothing comes easy.

ET&T: Describe your most embarrassing moment.KK: There are so many. I’m quite clumsy. One time I was on Synergy and apparently the leggings I was wearing was outlining a lot more than I bargained for. People found it very hard to focus on my new soca I went to sing. That outline was the star of the night. The embarrassing part came when a random person on facebook messaged me and said: “I know you don’t know me, but

my grandmother said to tell you don’t put on clothes that you can’t wear on TV.” I responded and said: “tell your granny that rest assured it would never happen again. I apologize.”

ET&T: What’s something you would never do?KK: Hmm… [long pause] I would try anything twice.

ET&T: What is the worst rumour you have heard about yourself?KK: That I’m a b*tch! Apparently people think I’m this unapproachable beast, but when they talk to me they’re like… “You’re real cool.”

ET&T: Apart from the music, what else are you doing to brand Krystal Khane?KK: I don’t mind doing endorsements and stuff, but in order to be successful in that regard I have to achieve a certain level of success with my craft.

ET&T: Anything else?KK: Look out for my live acoustic shows as well as my full performance shows with my dancers. I’m also on a mall tour where I do a mini-full performance with my dancers so you can look out for me there as well. My new release Free is on the airwaves. Plus I already started recording for Carnival


The school vacation period usually ushers in a ton of new and trendy styles and concepts. The social scene is at its peak apart from the obvious busy Christmas into Carnival period and everyone wants to look their best in

front of their peers. This year we saw several trends on the female fashion circuit and here we will revisit them.

High waist shorts in a variety of colours and materials were big in summer 2013. The extra short denim version was especially popular on the local boat ride scene.

Graphic t-shirts and vests were popular items all vacation long. urban wear made a comeback thanks to those cool casual styles.

Ruggedly fierce denim looks were a regular feature of 2013 fashion. Skin-baring cut up jeans and mini blazers or waistcoats all added to these denim ensembles.

The Lord Kitchener Calypso Auditorium at The National Academy for The performing Arts was the novel venue choice for Island people’s spectacular band launch on August 27th. The indoor launch

is somewhat of a rarity for large bands and Island people added awesome visuals and dramatic pieces interspersed throughout for effect. They did not disappoint with their costumes either as they did manage to pull off some magic on the night. Kudos to the team for breaking the monotony and rein-venting the band launch platform. Malice Entertainment followed up their successful Joyride party cruise with

the 2013 edition of the popular Independ-ence morning event Red White and Black.

The aptly titled boatride took place from 3am aboard the Treasure Queen and once again drew a large number of patrons despite competition from several events which took place that holiday weekend. ET&T was there for the event which featured lots of ladies and a great selection of tunes by some of the nation’s hottest DJ’s.

Trinidad and Tobago celebrated its 51st year as an Independent nation on August 31st 2013.

As tradition would have it there is an Independ-ence Day parade every year at the Queens park Savannah followed by fireworks later on in the night. The parade went on as planned as digni-taries and the armed forces came out in their numbers to show true national pride. ET&T and zoom photogra-phy’s Jamilah Stewart was there to capture the action.

He was showered with praises and gifts at a VIp reception at the Hyatt filled with various government dignitaries, entertainment celebrities and members of the media. Gordon was all smiles at the event in his honour which was held in celebration of his gold medal in the men’s 400 metres hurdles at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow and a similar victory at the Belgacom Van Damme Memorial IAAF Diamond League meet a month later. This dude is dressed in nothing but his skivvies and sneakers. Swim-wear could not be that hard to come by. It’s not like he ran away from work for a quick dip at the beach. He’s in a party. What’s worse… he doesn’t seem that young to begin with. God help us all.

This female perp got all blinged out for her water park run. We won’t fault her for the ratchet accessory choices. However, the pow-der on her neck is both inexplicable and inexcusable. Im-agine the outcome of her chest getting wet (after all, it’s a WATER pARK). Just scrumptious!

We knew the park was created for the kids, but we are not dumb enough to think that children are innocent. There have been numerous reports of fashion disturbances caused by the youths over the just-concluded vacation pe-
