8. Snap the Ethernet Module (A) onto the plastic spacers (F) and place a 5.5mm nut(E) on the 5/16” metal spacer (D) to secure the Ethernet module.

9. Make sure there is a shorting jumper on JP3 on the Ethernet module. Also thereshould be a shorting jumper on J4 as shown in Figure 7 and Figure 8. The J4jumper is used for controlling the keypad on the remote web page.

10. Install the power/RS232 cable (H) across the J8 (power) and J6 (RS232) of theEthernet module. This cable will only fit on the J8 and J6 connectors one way.Refer to Figure 7 and Figure 8.

11. Connect the Ethernet module +5VDC and Ground wires to the indicator’s +5Vand Gnd of the comm port header.

12. Connect the RX and TX wires to the desired comm port.

13. If the module is being installed in the Model 460, replace the existing keypadcable with the keypad cable included with this kit (22-30-25530)

The Ethernet module kit does not come with an RJ45 cable. Ethernet cables should bepoint-to-point and should not be spliced. If you want to connect the Ethernet moduledirectly to your computer you must use a cross-wired (null) Ethernet cable or connectthrough a hub, router, or switch first. Install your Ethernet cable through one of theindicator’s strain relief’s and crimp on an RJ45 connector (refer your computer supportpersonnel or computer supply store). Plug the RJ45 connector into J7 of the Ethernetmodule.

Record the Mac Address for later use in configuring the IP address. This is the numberlocated on the white label on U2 and is of the form ##-##-## ##-##-##

SETUPREFLASH YOUR INDICATORThe web server portion of the Ethernet option works best with the latest firmware (CodeLevel 332 November 25, 2002 or later). When loading new firmware don’t forget to saveyour indicator setup prior to updating.

SERIAL PORTBe sure to change the Ethernet comm port to 19,200 baud/ 8 data bits/ 1 stop bits andXon/Xoff flow control. If your indicator has an earlier version of firmware (beforeNovember 25, 2002) you must also set parameter P290 (Echo) to echo out the comm portthat the Ethernet Option is connected to.

SETUP OF THE IP ADDRESSYou will need to download the latest version of Ipsetup.exe from the GSE Web Site tocomplete this step: http://www.gse-inc.com (this file is located under distributor signin/downloads/Ethernet)If you are part of an existing network consult with your system administrator. If yournetwork does not use DHCP then obtain the IP address, IP mask, Gateway Address, andDNS from your system administrator. If you are part of an isolated network then werecommend choosing an address that is not accessible from the Internet:

10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255OR 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255OR 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

If you do not know what to use for the IP mask try 255.255.255.0

A. If you are part of an existing network and have DHCP: (Ask yoursystem Administrator)From a computer connected to the same network as the GSE Indicator (with a properlyinstalled Ethernet Option), run the program IPSetup.exe. Note that IPSetup uses a UDPbroadcast protocol and will not operate through a router.1. Select the device from the device list (It should have Mac ID that you recorded as part

of the installation process). If no devices are found press the find button.2. Record the IP address and IP mask for future reference.3. If your response is MAC:( #-#-#-#-#-#) ID:0.0.0.0 DHCP: 0.0.0.1 then Ipsetup was

not able to communication with your DHCP server. Proceed to step B below to setthe IP address.

B. If you do not have DHCP: (Ask your system administrator)From a computer connected to the same network as the GSE Indicator (with a properlyinstalled Ethernet Option), run the program IPSetup.exe. Note IPSetup uses a UDPbroadcast protocol and will not operate through a router. When IPSetup is executed, itwill identify all GSE Indicator’s (with Ethernet Option) connected to a LAN. If a devicehas not been initialized and its IP Address is 0.0.0.0, it can be identified by its 48-bitEthernet address (Mac ID).To configure a particular device:1. Select the device from the device list (It should have Mac ID that you recorded as part

of the installation process).

2. Enter the IP Address, IP Mask, and IP Gateway in their respective text boxes.

3. If you have a Domain Name Server then enter it.

4. Select the "Set" button to program the new values in the selected device.

ACCESSING THE GSE WEB SERVERNOTES:If your are working on a corporate LAN that uses a proxy server for Internet webbrowsing, you will need to exclude the IP address of the Ethernet Option in your webbrowser’s proxy servers settings/preferences. Otherwise, an attempt to connect to a webpage on the LAN will fail because the proxy server will attempt to route the requestoutside the LAN. For most web browsers, this can be accomplished in the advancedsettings for the proxy server configuration. Set the network mask for both to255.255.255.0.

Presently the Ethernet Option can conflict with any power up macro.

Open your Internet browser and enter the IP address of the module in the internet addresswindow. This will find the Ethernet module’s home page.

There are five pages: Home, Configure, Remote, FTP, and Email. The FTP and Emailpages are for future applications. The Email page has a connection to GSE Scale SystemsWeb site.

The Home page can be used as a diagnostic tool. It shows the current firmware revisionof the Ethernet Module, indicator serial number, indicator firmware revision and the scaleapplication date.

The Configure page is for configuring network and serial port settings.

Page 10: Ethernet Interface Board - marco-iw.nl · PDF fileGSE 60 Series Ethernet Interface Module ... 1 Instruction manual 39-10-40305 INS TAL LIN G THE ET HE RN ET INT ... Model 460/465 H

The Configure page also shows the version number and date of the Ethernet Modulefirmware. The Network Settings portion sets port number for Telnet use. Normally Telnetconnections are made on port 23. The Client Timeout is the time allowed before droppingan established Telnet connection. The Client Override Timeout is how long a newconnection will be forced to wait for access. After the Client Override Timeout theexisting connection will be dropped and the new connection established. The Serial Portsettings should be set to match the port to which the Ethernet Module is connected.Normally this is 19200 baud and the flow control set for Software Xon/Xoff.

The Remote page is where you can view and interact with the indicator. If you want yourbrowser to be able to display all the GSE special characters download GSE2000.ttf andGSE7000.ttf from the GSE website http://www.gse-inc.com (these files are located underdistributor sign in/downloads/Ethernet) and then copy the files to your Windows\Fontssubdirectory.

The Remote Page display window works best when the GSE Scale fonts are installed onyour computer. To do this go to the GSE Scale Systems web site (http://www.gse-inc.com) and download the files GSE2000.ttf and GSE7000.ttf. Copy these fonts to yourwindows/font directory.

The Remote page keypad usage may be enabled or disabled by installing a jumper on J4of the Ethernet module. By installing a jumper on the two pins directly under the J4 label, the server keypad will be enabled (note J4 is a 5 pin connector).

Note: Be sure to place the J4 shorting jumper on the appropriate two pins (closest to theEthernet connector). Refer to Figure 7 and Figure 8.

OTHER USERSOnce anyone on the network uses the keypad on the remote page you will see a numberappear under the display box indicating that someone has accessed the scale within thelast 2 minutes. A maximum of 5 users can be indicated. However remember that if morethan one person tries to send information to the scale at the same time the information canbe merged together with unpredictable results. An operator at the scale indicator itselfwill not show up as a user but you can observe the results of his actions.

TELNETIf a telnet connection is in progress you will not be able to see the display of yourindicator or use the Remote page.

USING TELNETTelnet connections normally use port 23. Many networks will not allow the use of otherport numbers for security reasons. The Configure page of the web server shows the timeallowed before dropping an established connection (Client Timeout). It also shows howlong a new connection will be forced to wait for access (Client Override Timeout). Afterthis Client Override Timeout the existing connection will be dropped and the newconnection established. Contact GSE Scale Application support for the availability of aTelnet version of the Communications Plus software.

Note: If you are writing your own Telnet software, the scale is set to echo any change indisplay via telnet connection once it is established.

TROUBLESHOOTINGIf Ipconfig.exe cannot locate the MAC address then check your Ethernet cables andconnections. Verify that the green lights on the Ethernet Module are on:• LED1 is the Ethernet Speed (on for 100M, off for 10M)• LED2 indicates a link has been established• LED3 indicates that the Ethernet Module has power.

If you cannot see the web page from your browser by typing the IP address (#.#.#.#) atthe address prompt then repeat the Setup IP address in Setup Section.

If on the Home page check to see if the Product Serial Number box reads “NoConnection Between Scale and Ethernet Module”:• Check the wiring between the Ethernet Module PCB and the scale• Make sure you have the latest firmware in your scale (Code Level 332 November 25,

2002 or later)• The baud rate of the scale port and that on the Configure page match.• That both the scale comm port and the Configure page are set for Xon/Xoff.• If all the above configurations are correct, use a serial port on your computer and a

terminal emulator program to monitor the serial port of the indicator to verify that theserial port of the scale is echoing out any changes in weight.
