KENYA: Bordering the capital city of Nairobi, in beautiful Kenya, Nairobi National Park is one of Africa's smallest parks & one of the only parks on earth to be in such close proximity to a city centre. It boasts a large & varied wildlife population, amid wide open grass plains against a backdrop of city scrapers. It is home to one of Kenya's most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries with the world's highest concentration of black rhinoceros. It's wetland areas are abundant with birdlife boasting over 400 bird species. You can enjoy the many facilities the park has to offer such as scenic picnic sites, well-positioned campsites and hiking trails. Commonly spotted species include: lion, hyena, warthog, zebra, giraffe, ostrich, gazelle, buffalo, and sometimes if you're lucky, leopard and cheetah.

Sandwiched between Mount Kenya & the northern deserts, Laikipia is where Kenya’s wild and semi-arid northern frontier country begins. Laikipia is made up of privately owned conservancies and community ranches. Known as one of Kenya’s best safari areas, the high plains of Laikipia feature vast open stretches of African savanna scattered with abundant game including: home to Kenya's largest population of Grevey Zebra, and some of the best black rhino breeding grounds as well as lion.

ZANZIBAR: Located only an hour’s drive from Stone Town, near the village of Paje on the beautiful eastern coast of Zanzibar, the seaside resort town of Dongwe features endless white-sand beaches meeting crystal- clear azure waters. OUTLINE ITINERARY

Day 1: Land in Nairobi and transfer 35 minutes to The Emakoko in Nairobi National Park. Starting your safari right away you will be spotting rhino & giraffe within moments of getting off the plane! The Emakoko is a boutique, family run lodge set on the bank of the Emakoko river with views over the park and wildlife roaming in the garden. Your hosts, Emma & Anton will join you for a Dawa (a delicious Kenyan cocktail meaning medicine in Swahili) before showing you to your room. 

Day 2: After a relaxing lie-in & a full hot breakfast your private guide will take you on a game drive spotting lion &, if you’re lucky, leopard en route to The Daphne Sheldrake elephant orphanage. This is a magical and inspiring place where baby elephants who have been orphaned by poachers can recover & make new families before being released back in to the wild. After lunch, your guide can take you to the Giraffe Centre in Karen – a must for families. Get up close and personal with giraffe as they eat pellets from your hand. 

Day 3: Transfer from The Emakoko through the park to Wilson Airport & fly to Lewa Downs in Laikipia. You will be met off the bush plane by a safari guide from Arijiju and driven through the famous Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to the Borana reserve where the stunning Arijiju Safari Retreat is waiting for you.

OUTLINE ITINERARY

Day 4,5,6: Enjoy the magnificent, exclusive Arijiju House and the best of private Kenya safari on your doorstep. This house has been beautifully showcased in the 2017 Conde Nast Gold List and more recently Vanity Fair. It has been heralded as the most beautiful house in Africa. Along with the house guests can use the spa, fully equipped gym, yoga deck, hammam, tennis and squash courts. Expert chefs create delicious wholesome cuisine and serve the best of South African wines to accompany it. There is even a star bed on the roof terrace and a home cinema to keep the children quiet one evening or indulge in as a family. 

Day 7, 8, 9: Fly from Lewa to Nairobi Wilson and then Nairobi Wilson on to Zanzibar. Here you will be met by a driver from Xanadu and transferred 1 hour to your luxury beach villa on the South East coast. With swaying palm trees, an oasis of colourful tropical flowers and a wide, white sandy beach, you’ll be in beach heaven. Enjoy snorkeling the turquoise waters of blue lagoon, paddle boarding in the shallows, and lying by the pool, for a few days of bliss. Now is the time for lazy mornings and getting stuck in to your book. The more adventurous can learn to kite surf, scuba dive, or cook with exotic Zanzibarianspices they’ve foraged for on the island. We highly recommend a sunset dhow cruise – the traditional East African trading sail boats. 

BEST TIME TO VISIT

• Kenya’s long dry season is from July to September, which also coincides with the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra. This is a very popular time to travel, but the country has plenty of reasons to visit outside of this period. In fact, the green seasons can be good times to travel as there are fewer visitors and you can admire the striking emerald vegetation, with only the peak of the 'long rains' in April and May being very wet. There is also an abundance of game as all the wildlife start having their babies throughout the green season.

• January through to March & September & October are also beautiful times to travel to Kenya. Being out of the school holidays with crystal clear blue skies & being prior to the rain season, so it is a very rewarding time to visit.

• The Zanzibar Archipelago's dry season from July to September is a very popular time to travel. However, most times of year are worthwhile, with balmy temperatures and sunshine the norm. During the short rains in November and December, downpours are followed by blue skies, with only the peak of the 'long rains' in April and May being very wet.
