Chapter 4

Operation during Linkage with Oracle VM

This chapter describes the operation of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system during linkage with Oracle VM.

■ Volume Group

A Volume Group in Oracle VM is a RAID group or Thin Provisioning Pool in the ETERNUS DX Disk storagesystem.Volume Groups cannot be created using the ETERNUS Oracle VM Storage Connect Plug-in. RAID groups or ThinProvisioning Pools must be designed and created beforehand in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system usingETERNUS Web GUI or ETERNUS CLI.

RAID groups and Thin Provisioning Pools are displayed in the following formats for Volume Groups:

• RAID groupGroup + RAID group number + : + RAID group name

• Thin Provisioning PoolGroup + Thin Provisioning Pool number + tp: + Thin Provisioning Pool name

When an operation such as [Create Physical Disk] or [Delete Physical Disk] is performed for the specifiedVolume Group, a volume is created in or deleted from the corresponding RAID group or Thin Provisioning Poolin the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.

■ Access Group

The ETERNUS DX Disk storage system uses the following resources:

• Host• Affinity Group• Host Affinity

When an operation such as [Present Physical Disk] or [Unpresent Physical Disk] is performed for the specifiedAccess Group, the resources that are listed above are created or deleted.

By using the filtering settings, Volume Groups that are operated with Oracle VM can be restricted.Specify "VolGrpPrefix=prefix" for [Plug-in Private Data] to discover a SAN server with Oracle VM ("prefix" is a filtering string. "VolGrpPrefix" and the filtering string are case sensitive.) Once the filtering string is specified, only the RAID groups or Thin Provision Pools in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage systems that have a name start-ing with the specified filtering string ("prefix") are available as targets for Oracle VM.

Do not use Edit Volume Group to change the information of a Volume Group. Doing so will result in abnormal operation. When information is changed, delete the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system and then register the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system again.

Chapter 4 Operation during Linkage with Oracle VM

■ Clone (When [Storage Array] is Selected as the Clone Target Type)

A Clone in Oracle VM performs a copy using the OPC function in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. The copy destination volume name will be "OVM01# + Name specified in Oracle VM Manager". However, ifName was not specified in Oracle VM Manager, the copy destination volume name will be "OVM01#clone + d"(d is a decimal number). The copy destination volume is created in a RAID group or Thin Provisioning Pool to which the copy sourcevolume belongs. If a volume cannot be created due to insufficient capacity or other reasons, a ThinProvisioning Pool or RAID group with the same RAID level as the copy source is automatically selected andused.

■ Physical Disk

A Physical Disk in Oracle VM is a volume in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. When a volume is created, "OVM01# + Name specified in Oracle VM Manager" is the name that is given for thevolume. The following method is used to expand volumes when the Physical Disk Size is changed.

• RAID group volumeLUN Concatenation

• Thin Provisioning Pool volumeExpand Thin Provisioning Volume

Volumes that are expanded by LUN Concatenation use RAID groups in the following order:

(1) RAID group to which the source volume belongs when the volume can be expanded within the RAID group

(2) RAID group with the same RAID level as the copy source

Setup for CHAP Authentication with an iSCSI Host Interface

This appendix explains how to set up CHAP authentication with an iSCSI host Interface. The followingprocedure may be changed for new versions of Oracle VM.

Procedure

1 Perform [Discover SAN Server] from [SAN Servers] in Oracle VM Manager without selecting [Use Chap] for [Access Information] to register the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.

2 Select the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system that was registered using Oracle VM Manager and perform [Refresh SAN Server].

3 Check that [Access Groups] in Oracle VM Manager includes an Access Group in which the Oracle VM Manager Initiator that uses CHAP authentication and Physical Disks are registered. If the Access Group is not included in [Access Groups], create an Access Group in which the Oracle VMManager Initiator that uses CHAP authentication and Physical Disks are registered.

4 Use ETERNUS Web GUI or ETERNUS CLI to set the CHAP user name and CHAP password of the Oracle VM Manager Initiator that is set in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.

5 Use ETERNUS Web GUI or ETERNUS CLI to set CHAP for the security of the iSCSI port that is connected with the Oracle VM Manager Initiator.Do not set the CHAP user name and CHAP password in this step.

6 Select the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system using Oracle VM Manager and perform [Delete SAN Server] to delete the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.

7 Perform [Discover SAN Server] from [SAN Servers] in Oracle VM Manager with [Use Chap] selected for [Access Information] and specify the CHAP user name and CHAP password that were set in Step 4 for [Access Username] and [Access Password] to register the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.

8 Select the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system that was registered using Oracle VM Manager and perform [Refresh SAN Server].

When the Initiator is added to an Access Group, perform Step 4, Step 5, and Step 8 from the procedure above.

Do not delete the Initiator from the Access Group. At least one Physical Disk must be assigned to the Access Group. If the Initiator is deleted from an Access Group, the procedure above must be performed again from Step 1 to use CHAP authentication. If no Physical Disks are assigned, [Refresh SAN Server] fails. When a Physical Disk is assigned again, [Refresh SAN Server] can be performed.
