SEGRO never ceases to be amazed by the extraordinary achievements of its customers at Slough Trading Estate. The latest company to grab the headlines and demonstrate the wow factor is MooGoo, the Australian natural skin care company, who recently expanded their presence on the estate, moving into their premises on Oxford Avenue.

MooGoo produces a unique cream initially formulated for cows’ udders, which has helped a 22-year old woman manage a severe and longstanding eczema condition.

Megan Underwood, a teacher from Hampshire, had tried dozens of treatments and prescription creams since childhood, but her eczema was so severe it covered her entire face and body, and has led to her being hospitalised.

However, since being recommended the unusual solution developed by MooGoo, the cream has worked wonders to keep Megan eczema-free and enable her to lead a normal life, unhampered by her condition. This miraculous story captured the imagination of the national media earlier this year, with MooGoo and Megan featuring in a range of articles in the Daily Mail, The Sun and The Mirror, amongst others.

Slough Borough Council’s ‘Better by…’ campaign is running a free bike surgery, where minor bike repairs can be fixed on site, for customers on the Slough Trading Estate.

The service, which is provided by Stows Cycles and estate customer Cycle Experience, takes place on the first Wednesday of every month with the venue rotating from Slough Aspire

(350 Edinburgh Avenue) and Bath Road Central Event Plaza (252 Bath Road). The free bike surgeries have been running for nearly four years. The service has provided a forum to discuss wider workplace travel initiatives which aim to maximise employee productivity and health through provision of safer and smarter travel arrangements; raised awareness of sustainable travel; and taught many on the estate how to maintain good upkeep of their bike to prolong its use.

What are your future plans?

“Our goal is to continue to expand our UK business. Our base at Slough Trading Estate will be home to 9 staff initially, but offers us the flexibility to grow. Moreover, one day we would like to explore relocating part of our coffee roasting operation to the UK, so being

in an environment where so many other businesses are making and creating things is appealing.”

For more information on Rombouts Coffee visit www.rombouts.co.uk.

Rombouts Coffee is a family owned coffee  company founded in Belgium in 1896. The company sources, roasts and supplies premium quality coffees throughout the UK.

Simon Remmer, Sales Director, Rombouts Coffee said:

“Rombouts Coffee is a family-owned Belgian Coffee Roaster. The 120 year old company manufactures coffee for all markets and supplies equipment for home and commercial use. Although most famous for our one cup filter we have an extensive range of Roast & Ground Coffees. We supply supermarkets, coffee shops, hotels, restaurants, offices and provide products direct to consumers via our website. We have operated in the UK for 50 years.”

What brought you to Slough Trading Estate? Why did you select this location?

“Our UK operations have always been based in the South East, in the M4 Corridor. About 18 months ago we decided to relocate to new premises and consolidate together our head office and distribution space, as we think there is a commercial benefit to having our people and products together. We selected Slough Trading Estate as it offered the right type of flexible space, in a location that offers easy access to London and the South East - particularly after Crossrail opens - as well as good connectivity to our regional network of partners and distributors.”

“The benefits of Apprenticeships to both employers and apprentices, range from increased productivity and retention to higher earning potential, and make them an ideal way for Berkshire’s businesses to grow their workforce.”

Campbell Christie CBE, Chair of the Skills, Education & Employment Programme Group and director of the LEP Executive Board added: “Creating more and better apprenticeships is a priority for the LEP and this programme will contribute strongly to this aim.”

To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, The Berkshire Apprenticeship Hub hosted a focus group: ‘Barriers to Apprenticeships in Smaller Businesses’. The workshop provided a platform for SMEs to share their views

and experiences of Apprentices, the new Apprenticeship Levy, interactions with training providers and what they feel the government could do to make it easier for SMEs to recruit and train the next generation of talent.

SEGRO has completed the latest phase of development at Buckingham Avenue, at the Western Gateway to the estate. The development comprises the speculative construction of three new buildings totalling over 60,000 sq ft of workspace.

Highlighting the continued strong demand for workspace on the estate, two of the three new buildings have already been leased.

Axflow, a company specialising in the provision of pump systems across a range of industries, is a new customer to the estate, agreeing to lease a 14,400 sq ft unit at 820 Yeovil Road, and an existing estate customer has agreed to lease unit 772 on Buckingham Avenue, a 34,700 sq ft building.

There is one remaining unit available to lease, a detached building comprising 11,400 sq ft on Henley Road.

Paul Lewis, Thames Valley Regional Director, SEGRO said;

“Leasing 80% of new space in a speculative development before construction completes illustrates that occupier demand for the Slough Trading Estate remains as strong as ever.  We’re pleased to welcome another new customer, and it is always gratifying when one of our existing customers decides to expand their operations with us.”

Slough Aspire, with support from Thames Valley Berkshire LEP, has relaunched the Berkshire Apprenticeship Hub, where businesses on the estate and across Berkshire can gain fast, free and easy access to information on apprenticeship programmes and the latest funding.

Commenting on the re-launch, Fiona Jones, Slough Aspire’s Chief Executive, said:

On Thursday 22 March businesses on the Slough Trading Estate competed in the first ever ‘interactive’ treasure trail, exploring eleven iconic locations on the estate using state of the art QR technology, designed to engage with the local workforce, increase awareness and cultural and social heritage of Slough.

The Estates Trail App (ETA), devised by Resource Productions and Mix-Up Reality in partnership with SEGRO and HOME Slough and Arts Council England, saw nine teams racing to get to the checkpoints across the estate, using a specially designed mobile phone app.

Teams from 10 businesses took part, including estate customers, CLEAN, Mars, Hanovia and Ragus. CLEAN were crowned the winners and were given £500 donation to their partner charity, Aik Saath – Empoword, who work with people from all communities and faiths to promote and encourage conflict resolution and community cohesion through poetry. Each participating team were also awarded £100 to donate to their chosen charities.

All competitors joined at Slough Aspire after the ETA, where Tan Dhesi, Slough MP, led the prize giving;

“Well done to everyone who took part in today’s challenge at the Slough Trading Estate. The ETA has been a great way to tell the historical and cultural story of Slough while working to break down negative stereotypes of Slough and show people how great of a place Slough is to work and live in.”

The trail will remain up across the estate for the foreseeable future.
