The School of Distance Education of Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports

University was established during the academic year 2005. I feel proud of writing the

prologue of the session 2017-18 for various programs offered through Distance

Education mode in this University. Since its inception, School of Distance Education has

made commendable progress with a mission to reach the learners at their door steps

with new innovative programs especially in the field of yoga and sports sciences. The

numbers of programs run through distance learning of this University have been

The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University established in 2004 is unique and first of its kind in India. The quality of education thus should empower mankind. The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University is progressing in the right direction towards enriching physical education and sports, with the motto “EXCELLENCE IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS”. THE SCHOOL OF DISTANCE EDUCATION, started in the year 2007 with few

innovative courses and had grown in a tremendous manner to reach this

pinnacle. It is one of the pioneering centers of distance learning in the State. Tamil

Nadu Physical Education and Sports University is the only Sports University in

India offering excellent and Job oriented courses especially in the area of sports

and it’s allied fields through distance mode. All these courses perfectly suits the

needs of physical education personals , sports lovers and even the people from

various background. In line with the efforts of experts in the field of Yoga,

Acupuncture, Martial Arts and Physical Education, the school offers a total number

of 107 programs in Certificate/Diploma/PG Diploma/ UG and PG courses through

distance mode of learning. The march of a Nation towards glory is carried forward

by the competent human resource that a strong education system prepares. Along

with general education, Physical Education is the one that provides the thrust in

Dear friends, Greetings from School of Distance Education, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University. It is my great privilege to welcome each and everyone of you to one of the India’s renowned sports Universities. The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University is the brain child of our former Honourable chief minister Dr.J.Jayalaithaa to promote sports and identify the sporting talents among young generation to achieve greater levels in National and International level sporting events.The School of Distance Education (SDE) of TamilNadu Physical Education and Sports University was established in the year 2007 with a vision to impart higher education to the students who, due to various circumstances, cannot undergo face to face education. Over the years the School Of Distance Education turned as a main focus for students who cannot afford or not willing to join colleges or who are employed or who are seeking an additional qualification. There is a vast array of courses that are offered in the SDE at different levels such as Certificate, Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Diploma, PG Diploma and Lateral courses. Inorder to facilitate the independent study, all the learning resources of the SDE are prepared meticulously in self learning format with subject experts. The Personal Contact Programs are handled by experienced faculties drawn from our University departments and affiliated Colleges of our University. Some of the highly technical and practical oriented courses are handled by the faculties who have vast knowledge in these subjects. We are confident and happy to state that the degree you receive from the SDE, will surely help you to gain more competence and prepare to face the job market.

PROFILE The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University established by an Act of the Government

of Tamil Nadu in 2004, is unique and the first of its kind in India as an affiliatory University, exclusively

for Physical Education and Sports. After obtaining the accent from his Excellency the president of India on 5th

August 2005, the said act came into force with effect from 15th September 2005. It is a rare coincidence that the University has started functioning from December 2005, declared by the

United Nations as International year for Sport and Physical Education. At present the University has three

Faculties, Five Departments and thirteen affiliated Colleges. Further the University now offers select

Physical Education and Allied Courses, through collaborative programme and Distance Education stream also.

VISION “To engage in relentless pursuit of Excellence in the promotion and development of Physical

Education and Sports through innovative programmes in teaching, coaching, research and outreach

activities and evolve a holistic approach to the betterment of human resources through a harmonious

blend of body, mind and spirit”

ADMISSION The Candidate may seek admission either directly to the University or through any one of the

approved Study Centers of our University. The lists of Approved Study Centres are given in the

University Website www.tnpesu.org and prospectus.

Excellence in Physical Education and Sports If the Candidates enroll directly with the University, the Course Materials shall be directly sent to

them and they have to attend the Contact Classes at the venue arranged by the School of

Distance education.

If the candidates enroll through Study Centers, the Course Materials shall be only sent to the

Study Centers and students have to attend the Contact Classes arranged by the Study Centers at

their places.

Personal contact programs (PCP) are mandatory for all courses mentioned in the list.

DIRECT ADMISSION WITH THE UNIVERSITY The following documents are to be enclosed along with the filled-in applications:

The original Certificates of HSC / Diploma Certificate or Degree or Provisional Certificate and a set of self attested copies of certificates. (Original Certificates will be returned immediately after verification).

One set of all the Certificates of S.S.L.C/HSC / Diploma Certificate or Degree or Provisional

Certificate and a Copy attested by the Self (Tamil Nadu Govt. Norms).

Identity Card: Student will be issued Identity Card by the School of Distance Education or

Study Centers after their admission. Students are instructed to keep their Identity Card safely

till the completion of the Program and must bring their Identity Card at the time of Personal

Contact Program (PCP) and Examinations.

Demand Draft / Cash Challan (Indian Bank) for the prescribed total fee drawn in favor of “The

Director, DDE, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University”, payable at Chennai

(Refer to Annexure- I for fee details).

The School of distance education will not issue any Transfer Certificate. However, a

“Course Completion Certificate” may be issued for those who successfully completed the course and apply for it.

ADMISSION CONFIRMATION

After scrutinizing the documents, the School Of Distance Education shall confirm Admission to

the eligible candidates by assigning Register Number, issue Admission letter and Identity

Card.

Students are instructed to keep the identity Card in safe custody till they complete the program.

Once the candidate is admitted, his/her registration is valid for the entire period of study,

subject to the payment of course fee for the respective year.

PERSONAL CONTACT PROGRAM

The personal contact program will be conducted in two spells of classes for a minimum duration of 50

hours for Theory papers and 100 hours for program involving both theory and practicals in a year. Students

should make their own arrangement for their boarding and lodging at the centre’s where PCP’s are held.

A circular of details of date, venue and time for the Personal Contact Program for the academic year will

be sent to centres. Study Centre will intimate all the particulars to the Students prior notice.

80% OF ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY for PCP classes. Attendance certificate will be issued

at the end of the Personal contact Program. Only those students who attended the contact program and maintain 80% of attendance are eligible to sit for the examination. The practical classes will be conducted

in the respective Centres. During II Spell of classes the Practical Examination will be conducted. Attendance

certificate with the Exam application form for registration for the University examination at the end of the

academic year should be attached. If it is not attached, the candidate concerned shall not be permitted to write

examination.

7. The demand draft should reach the School of Distance Education within 15 days from the date of its

issue by the bank

8. Demand Draft should be payable at Chennai only; Demand Draft payable outside Chennai will not be accepted.

9. The students are permitted to pay the fee year-wise.

10. Fee once paid shall neither be refunded not adjusted towards any other payment. 11. Cheques, Postal Orders and Money orders will not be accepted under any circumstances. 12. Applicants should fill-up the application form and Student Indentify Card in block letters in his/her own

handwriting and duly sign in the space provided.

13.Incomplete applications and over-written applications will be rejected.

14. Admission cannot be claimed as a matter of right.

15. Before dispatching the application to the applicant should make note of the application number.

16. Whenever the candidate corresponds with the School of Distance Education, he/she has to quote his/her

Enrolment Number, the program and the Study Centre through whom they have enrolled.

17. No candidate shall register for two Program in the SDE while registered for a program. Also, if a candidate pursuing any course(s) in any other university in the same academic year while


seeking admission in TNPESU, the application form will be rejected and the fee for the application will not be refunded.` Dual degree is not permitted.

18. The University reserves the right not to conduct any of the Program if the circumstances so warrant.

19. If the certificate submitted by the applicant is in any language other than English / Tamil, an English

version of the Certificate, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer should be enclosed failing which such

certificate will not be considered.

20. In case of Certificates/Degree of Foreign Educational institutions, such Institution must be the Members

of Association Indian Universities or Commonwealth Universities.

21. The Directorate reserves the right to revise, modify, add/ or delete any part of the syllabus, considering

the welfare of the students.

22. For the second and third year, the study materials will be dispatched the directorate through post on

receipt of the tuition fee for the respective year.

23. All the Original Certificates should be attached at the top left corner of the application form with a tag or

string to prevent them from getting lost.

24. For all Certificates courses completion of (Pass) SSLC/10th std is mandatory.

25. Candidates those who are pursuing PG courses in which project/Thesis is prerequisite to complete the

course, they can do either project/thesis under a supervisor or choose any one of the theory paper

prescribe by the University.

• There will not be any separate communication from the School of Distance Education for

payment of II/III year course fee on or before every Year. • The II / III Year fee has to be paid whether the candidate has taken up the examinations or

not /results declared or not.

COMPLETION OF COURSE The students are permitted to complete the course (both Theory and Practical’s/ Projects/

Dissertations) within 5 years from the Admission of the course, failing which, their registration will

stand automatically cancelled.

SDE EXAMINATIONS REGULATIONS: 1. Candidates are instructed to read the following instructions relating to examinations

carefully and take note of the special instructions relating to examinations.

2. The annual University Examination will be conducted in the month of May every year for

all the Programs.

3. Examination application form will be uploaded in the university website during the month of

February/March by the Controller of Examination.

4. The candidates can download the examination applications form and submit the duly filled-

in form along with all necessary enclosures before the due date to the Controller of

Examination.

Excellence in Physical Education and Sports 5. The Examination fee to be paid in the form of Demand Draft to be drawn in favour of

“The Registrar, TNPESU, payable at Chennai from any nationalized bank or bank challan uploaded in the website.

6. Candidates are expected to submit the filled in examination application form before 28.02.2018.

7. Payment of Exam fee: Penalty Rs.50/- (Rupees Fifty Only) will be collected per day from 01.03.2018 to

10.03.2018. 8. Submission of exam application form after 10.03.2018 will not be accepted.

9. While submitting the filled-in application for examination, enclose the Photo copy of the fee

Demand Draft (DD) towards the tuition fee paid. Otherwise, applications will not be

registered for the examinations.

Student who has not paid the Tuition fee will not be permitted to write the

examinations under any circumstances.

10. The examinations are conducted at various centres furnished in the examination

application appended to this prospectus. However, the University has the right to restrict

the number of examination centres depending upon the students’ strength. If any changes

that will e displayed in the university website.

11. Change of Examination Centre will not be accepted at any circumstances. Hence

candidates are advised to take enough care in filling up of the examination application.

12. The ID card issued by the DDE should be produced at the Examination Centre both for

obtaining the hall ticket and for taking the examinations. No other ID card will be accepted

for taking the examinations.

13. Minimum 50% of the marks should be secured in the University examinations

(external examination) for a final pass in all degree and PG. Diploma courses.

14. Minimum 40% of the marks should be secured in the University examinations (external

examination) for a final pass in all Diploma / Certificate courses.

15. The Examination Fee is given in Annexure – II.

Excellence in Physical Education and Sports 16. Hall - Tickets shall be issued by the Controller of Examinations to the Students through

Examination Centers one/two days before the commencement of Examinations.

No Separate Communication will be sent to the Candidates for this purpose.

17. The Statement of Marks, Provisional Certificate, Degree / Diploma Certificates,

publication of results shall be sent to the Candidates by the Controller of Examinations.

18. Students, who have arrears of paper, after the completion of the duration of the course

of study, May also, submit the examination application form to clear their arrear papers

within the last date indicated above along with the prescribed examination fee.
