People’s Desire

Work closely for betterpublic health care

The government in its drive for promotingpublic longevity has been carrying out healthcare services with national outlook for uplift ofthe health and fitness standard of the entirenation.

In the process, easy public access to propernourishment is on the list of high priorities. Many ways are being applied to achieve thegoal such as giving children multivitamin tablets, producing foods added with nourishingsupplements, and conducting educative talks onproper nourishment.

In particular, children aged between sixmonths and five years are given Vitamin-A pillsonce every six months in order that kids arefree from diseases caused by Vitamin-Adeficiency.

Today, the youth are well-rounded notonly in education to improve the educationstandard of the nation but also in skills to giveadded impetus to national development. At theheart of the plan lies high health standard of theyouth.

Mothers should take care of andsystematically breastfeed their children sincetheir births. Mother’s milk improves diseaseresistance and develops infants both physicallyand mentally.

If we are all on a healthy diet and givechildren proper nourishment in a systematicway, we will be able to drastically reducechildren’s malnutrition and bring about healthyand fit generations.

If you have a chronic illness —such as diabetes, arthritis or heartdisease — you can take an active rolein managing your health.

The American Academy of FamilyPhysicians offers these self-management guidelines:

* Examine your unhealthy behaviours, and choose which ones you’d like to change.

* Create specific goals and an action plan for how you’ll reach those goals.

* Create backup plans — for example, what you’ll do for exercise when the weather is bad.

* Feel confident in your ability to reach your goals; if they seem too tough, reconsider your goals.

* Check in frequently with your doctor to discuss your progress and any problems.—Internet

Breast-feeding may cut obesityrisk in kids of diabetic moms BERLIN, 26 Feb—Infants

Among babies exposedto diabetes in utero, those whowere breast-fed for six monthsor more were no more likelyto put on extra weight whenthey were 6 to 13 years oldthan children whose mothers

did not have diabetes duringpregnancy, the investigatorsfound.

The findings were thesame across all ethnicities. However, this protective effectwas not seen in babies whowere breast-fed for less thansix months.

Dairy intake may not mean muchfor longevity

NEW YORK, 26 Feb—Despite concerns over saturatedfats in dairy products, the milk and cheese in your dietmay not have much effect on your longevity, according toDutch researchers.

Their study, which was funded by the Dutch DairyFoundation, followed more than 120,000 older adults fora decade.

It showed no relationship between men’s dairy intakeand their risk of dying during the study period. Amongwomen, meanwhile, a high intake of dairy fat — frombutter or other full-fat dairy — was linked to a smallincrease in deaths, particularly those due to heart disease.

In contrast, eating full-fat sour dairy products, includingyogurt and sour cream, was tied to a slight decrease indeaths among both men and women.

None of those relationships prove that dairy productswere the reason for the higher or lower risks, however. And even if they were, the effects were tiny, the researcherssay.

Ninety one percent of US adults questioned in a new poll by computerinnovation company Intel said they have seen people misuse technology, andthree quarters think mobile manners have decreased in the past year.

“New digital technologies are becoming a mainstay in consumers’ lives, but we haven’t worked out for ourselves, our families, communities andsocieties what all the right kinds of behaviours and expectations will be,” saidGenevieve Bell, the head of interaction and experience research at Intel.

The poll of 2,000 adults revealed that most US adults wished peoplepracticed better mobile etiquette and found the lack of cellphone mannersextremely annoying, even though about 20 percent admitted to poor etiquettethemselves.

Nearly 75 percent said the lack of mobile manners has created a new formof public rage and 65 percent admitted they became angry around people whomisused mobile devices.

The most annoying behaviours were the use of mobile devices duringdriving, followed by talking on a cellphone loudly in a public place andwalking in the street while texting or talking on the phone.

Vancouver vies for top spot asworld’ s eco fashion epicentre

VANCOUVER, 26 Feb — The world’s catwalk isgoing green and Vancouver, British Columbia, wantsthe center stage. Organic cotton, recycled leather, vintage jewelry, and animal-friendly footwear werejust a few of the things found on designers’ racks andtables at Friday’s trade show marking the end ofVancouver’s Eco Fashion Week, a fashion weekdevoted entirely to socially and environmentallyresponsible fashion design.

Now in its second season, Vancouver’s EcoFashion Week is joining a raft of similar eventspopping up around the globe in fashion hot spots likeLondon, New York, and Hong Kong, as the demandfor environmentally sustainable fashion designballoons.

But in 2009, the City of Vancouver announcedtheir goal to become the world’s greenest city withinthe next decade. Eco Fashion Week producers arehoping that this push from the city will help catapultVancouver to the forefront of the world’s greencatwalk and help it become the “eco-center” of thefashion industry.

“Vancouver has never had a niche for fashion,”said Evie Ponce, vice president of Vancouver FashionWeek. “So it kind of is definitely along the sameinitiative, so now we’re part of the 2020 initiative tomake it the greenest city by the year 2020,” shesaid.—Xinhua
