Container service was inauguratedby PNSC this last December and,according to Brian Lux, GeneralTraffic Manager of CrossoceanShipping Company, Inc., the carrier’sagent, "the volume of containershipments via PNSC is growingrapidly".
Six vessels will normally be utilizedin the service and sailing frequency willbe approximately every 20 to 25 daysfrom Houston.

Nine of these 25-ton-lift water well drilling rigs are bound for Hodeida,Yemen, to aid that country’s irrigation effort. Manufactured by Driltech,Inc., located in Florida, the rig was loaded aboard the M/V ADEL PHIYEMELOS at city dock 19. Maritime Transport Overseas, Inc., handled thetransportation arrangements for the rigs, and a 3,000 gallon capacitywater tank truck.

Puerto Rico’s TradeNow Tops $11 Billion
Puerto Rico’s total import-exporttrade volume is now over a record $11billion a year, according to a newbrochure issued by Puerto Rico’sEconomic Development Administration,the agency which has attracted over2,000 U.S. and foreign plants to theConnecticut sized Caribbean island.
Commenting on the new report,Manuel Cabranes, EDA’s DeputyAdministrator said: "WithU.S./Puerto Rico trade now topping$9 billion a year and our foreign tradequadrupling in recent years, it isapparent that Puerto Rico’s newincentives to service industries shouldbe of interest to international tradeoriented companies in the U.S. andabroad."

The M/V BRUSSEL, the newest vessel in the fleet of A.B.C. ContainerLine, made its maiden voyage to the Port of Houston Barbours Cut facilityrecently. The vessel, newly delivered to the Antwerp-based oceancarrier by the Cockerill Shipyards in Hoboken, Belgium, is in service fromHouston and other ports of the U.S. Gulf and South Atlantic to NorthEurope. Hansen and Tidemann, Inc., serve as North American GeneralAgents for the A.B.C. Container Line. The new ship is a sister vessel tothe M/V ANTWERPEN which joined the service in late 1979.
