Trimtect is a new growth regulator formulated specifically for ground covers, perennials, vines, shrubs, and small trees. Applied as a foliar spray or a soil drench, Trimtect is absorbed into the xylem through actively growing tissue. Whether through the leaves, stems, or roots, paclobutrazol moves to the tips of the plant where it inhibits production of gibberellins, the plant hormones responsible for promoting cell elongation and expansion.

ExpectationsIn many locations, one or two treatments per year will be all you need to maintain a manicured appearance. You can expect one application of Trimtect to control growth for 8 to 12 weeks. Treated plants will be more compact with slightly smaller, darker green leaves. Plants may also have an enhanced flowering and fruiting appearance. The active ingredient in Trimtect and Cambistat is a molecule called paclobutrazol. The molecule is part of a highly active group of plant growth regulators and fungicides known as triazoles. Widely used for decades in tree care and vegetation management, paclobutrazol consistently reduces plant shoot growth by 30-70% during the growing season. Paclobutrazol achieves growth reduction without deforming the plant or causing phytotoxic reactions seen with other growth regulation products.

When Trimtect or Cambistat is applied, a lone electron on a nitrogen atom reacts with the enzyme kaurene oxidase. This interaction blocks a key step in the formation of gibberellic acid, resulting in the reduction of vegetative growth.

HOW (IT WORkS)

Gibberellins (GAs) and absicic acid (AbA) are made from some of the same base compounds. Reducing GAs results in increased AbA. An

increase in AbA causes plants to close their stomates, making them more tolerant of drought conditions through reduced water loss. As a result, plants require less water during times of water stress.

Paclobutrazol changes some important physical traits of leaves. Leaves of treated plants are thicker than untreated leaves. They often have a thicker waxy cuticle layer, and denser trichomes (leaf hairs) that help prevent water loss during periods of water stress.
