Welcome to winter everyone! Wow Snow on Mt Baw Baw, and Jack frost in the garden Just to remind us we live in Victoria. Some of our members have already flown north avoiding the chilly months, lucky them! What a busy little month was May. It just flew past. A trip to Bayles on a glori-ous day made even better by my hus-band Ben taking out best American Bike for the show, a trophy for the man cave! Also a big congrats to James Kent for the best BSA. Jim and Val Muldowney celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniver-sary, Congratulations such a wonderful milestone to be celebrating. We went on a trip to the tractor pulls and mar-velled at the steam rollers. Another

magnificent day at the Heyfield Vintage Machinery Rally. The weather being very kind again, always a plus when your vehicle has no roof .. Or doors ! And what a transformation, a few doubting Thomas’s about plans for the new look clubrooms on day one, could not see Presi-dent Gerry’s big picture, finally a bit more elbow grease and some grunting and groan-ing, “put this here, no move it back” we finally all agreed the club rooms look much more representative of our club. Thank you to everyone who contributed in some way, small or large, the committee appreciated your help and support. Clubrooms now looking all ready for our big party this month, Hope to see you there, we have a huge day planned for our 30 year celebration, hope you are as excited as a

dog with two tails, I know I am… It’s a party and we have cake!! I have some spare T shirts left come and see me at the next meeting. If you haven’t ordered one yet , don't’ wait too much longer, you don’t want to miss out, let me know asap. This month we welcome a new spon-sor, Grant Fowler Signs, a very talent-ed local sign writer who still knows how to traditional brush work. For a sample just see Jason Cini’s Triumph. Grant is also a member, don’t worry grant we will get you to a run soon! Welcome aboard. See everyone at the new clubrooms next Saturday for the Gen-eral meeting. Keep moving , Donna.

When you restore something. Isn’t the beauty in these older vehicles really in the sto-

ries they could tell and the imagination they trigger that makes them attractive. What

really is the point in taking an old Indian for example and removing all the character

and making it like the day it rolled out of the factory.

Having then expended all this money and effort in stripping away the authenticity of life one is

then obliged to then keep it pristine. Arguably then does restoration not only strip life and ex-

perience but it also prevents it from living into the future. It somehow seems odd that I should

be talking about life in what is largely an inanimate subject. It’s also ironic that the president

of a Vehicle restorers club should be pondering the function of restoring. Somehow giving a

beautiful old lady Botox to look young again doesn’t seem well…

On to other thoughts then, I was delighted by the support our club experienced at the working

bee.

It was a real sense of community watching so many of our members roll up their sleeves and

get stuck into the work. In the midst of the organised chaos we managed to get much of what

needed doing, done. The cosmetic refurbishment is still underway and the creative juices are

flowing.

I hope that there will be something that particularly appeals to you. Catering to a variety of

tastes is always a challenge but I am thrilled about the contribution of every one who helps

make it a happy place. May be you like brown rather than white or may be lace over laminate

or prefer carpet to floor boards, either way it doesn’t matter. For me it’s the energy and en-

gagement that makes us vibrant that counts.

Most of you will be aware that we are fast approaching our AGM and it’s that time of year

when we again seek volunteers to take up positions on the club’s committee of management.

Quite frankly there are several reasons why you shouldn’t volunteer. Mostly you know these –

I’m too old, I’m too young, I been there already, I haven’t got the experience, I’ve got nothing

to offer, I don’t like committees, got kids to worry about, got grandkids to worry

about, got to travel, got to get things done at home, I’m retired and it’s time to take it

easy, I’ve got a full time job and I’m busy. You get the picture.

All I’m saying is when will it be your turn.

Until next time - Love what you’ve done with the joint guys!

Gerry

Present at the meeting was Mr. John Lewis Vicroads manager registration policy, as a result most of the meeting was taken by CPS business. 1. CPS still bedding down, despite rumours there are no major changes in the pipeline. Changes would only be made with con-sultation.

2. 65500 vehicles on the scheme up from 10000 in 2011 but down from 80000 last year.

3. 4000 vehicles with expired permits, nearly at the end of the 3 month grace period after which permits will be cancelled.

4. Of about 1000 clubs about 750 have completed paperwork. The list of clubs can be found on Vicroads website, WGVRC is there.

5. Commercial clubs exist, the difficulty being that they have remained within the letter of the law, in some cases they have advertised – targeting people who do not want to participate in a club, just want to have an old vehicle on the road. Generally commercial clubs have had immaculate paper work! It is difficult to legislate for the spirit of the CPS.

6. Photo’s required for new registrations either hard copy or electronic but must be dated. This is largely for the clubs protec-tion. Vicroads intend to send lists of registered cars to clubs.

7. A form is to be developed with regard to transferring vehicles between clubs.

8. The CPS is currently run separately from the main registration data base so Police are not able to check rego automatically.

9. Where a CPS vehicle is parked on a public road more than 100 meters from home the log book must be completed every day! If you are parked in a private parking e.g. hotel car park you would only need to complete the log book before moving onto the road.

10. “M “ plates are on the way for modified vehicles. Clubs need some degree of Policing such as vetting vehicles that should be on M plates. Clubs could also check on members that seem to be using vehicles in excess of the allotted number of days, a bit of discussion about people completing the book in pencil etc! The Federation have books with a checklist for vehicle inspections at $25 per book which will do 25 vehicles, the book cannot be posted due to expense, maybe we should get 1 book & transfer the relevant information onto an electronic version. There has been confusion at some Vicroads branches as it is the club not the Federation that is recognised for vehicle approv-al. It was recognised that encouraging younger membership to the movement is essential & assistance is available to a young person’s project through the Federation with sponsorship from the Robert Shannon Foundation, this could include:

Purchase of specialist tools

Cost of restoration work

TAFE expenses

A project considered worthwhile by the trustees. Candidate must be <30! Rob Marshall

This turned out to be a fantastic day both event wise and

weather wise. Ian T lead the run through an interesting route after a cuppa at the club rooms. Elsie, Neville and I met them at willow grove , from there Neville led us through Yallourn Nth Tyres Glengarry, Toongabbie and Cowwarr, Arriving at the Heyfield expo at about 12.00. Here I received a surprise as I had to pay $10 each to en-ter, I have attended many times and never paid, maybe I was entering through a back gate previously. There were many trucks, cars tractors, steam rollers, steam traction engines , motorbikes and stationary en-gines on display. After a quick lunch I proceeded to look around as I wanted to see as much of the static display as possible before settling down to watch the tractor pull. First off many people many people wanted to look over our Fargo ute and talk about it, Then I keep meeting ac-quaintances as I looked around and had a good talk with them. Finally I got to the tractor pull in time for the grand parade, then the tractor pull restarted with a four wheel drive Ford pulling the Sled all of the way. The event was finished and I only saw one tractor pull! Elsie said I talked too much but I had an enjoyable day. So with reckless abondment abonnement I splashed out and bought Elsie an ice-cream and headed for home.

Ian Troughton, Royal Enfield: Roy Stayches, Suzuki: Bert West,Harley: Mac Goodbody,CF Moto: Neville Chris-tie Indian: Wilf Tampaline, Yamaha: and Ian Mallows, BMW: lined up at the Club Rooms for what promised to be a great sunny 17 deg day. After some discussion regarding leader and destination we headed off behind Ian M on his BMW to Warburton and Mt Donna Buang via Bona Vista Rd then through Nilma to Bloomfield rd. to Neerim Sth where we detoured via Sheffield rd. before re-joining the road to Noojee for a cuppa to warm up as the air was quite fresh, especially as we dropped down the Pink Hill near Noojee. The wonderful lady at

the cafe on the Nth side suddenly had a shop full of patrons wanting various teas and coffees and she has the unique ability to be making 2 or 3 coffees plus taking orders for more without stop-ping her friendly chatter. She even gives us the jar of biscuits to help ourselves while we consume the warm brew. She even trusts us to go in and pay after we have finished drinking. I just hope no one forgets to pay before they ride off. From here we rode through Powelltown, Gilderoy, Gladysdale etc to Yarra Junction where we turned right to Warburton then into the Old Warburton rd. for some more twisties before arriving at our lunch stop. It was here that we came across this amazing site.

Obviously the artist has plenty of spare time on his hands. After the usual mix of tasty( fattening) pies, cakes and coffee, We headed up the road to see the view from Mt Donna Buang which didn’t disappoint as the road was dry and had plenty of the essential bends then the view from the tower( for those fit enough to climb it) was great- we could see the chimneys at Morwell and Loy Yang. After this quick stop we headed back to War-burton to refuel and retrace our tracks back home with a couple of small detours. At the Warragul turnoff near Noojee we said goodbye to Roy and Neville who went home via Hill End and Willow Grove and the rest of us returned to Warragul and Drouin and Westy home to his

farm duties. A great day again and thanks to Neville for the photos. Ian M 2 More picture( Ian T was the photographer).

Old Banger Run

THE FIRST SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH

Cars and Bikes pre 1976 are invited to join the WGVRC for a small casual run stopping for lunch or a cuppa.

Departing WGVRC Clubrooms at 11.00am Clubrooms open at 10.00am

Saturday 2nd May was bright enough to ride the bike to the clubrooms. Knowing it was the pre 1975 vehicle day run I was looking forward to seeing all the old bangers chuff off. As time passed it became apparent there were very few vehicles planning to take part. During the morning I had met and spo-ken with a guest named Brian who indicated that he was looking to join a club that did not travel at warp speed when indulging in their favourite past time. I advised Brian that we had at least three mo-tor cycle runs per month and also car and social events. NOW THEN …….. I am fully aware of the under-standing that the first Saturday old banger run is for pre 1975 vehicles, but on this occasion as there were only three eligible vehicles, in this case bikes, the trip leader, who shall remain nameless, Gerry, invited Brian and myself to join the run. I protested vehemently, partly because I did not want to suffer the usually justifiable wrath of Rex. I was over ruled, lucky me, so Brian and I riding modern went along. We took this opportunity to introduce Brian to corner marking procedure which he understood and picked up immediately and the ride progressed faultlessly ….. whoopee! The essence of this event was not interfered with - a leisurely ride to Jindi Café for lunch before we all went our separate ways home. It did not rain, no one broke down, there wasn’t a Harley on the run, no one got lost, the company was great – how good is that! Attending were Gerry – Honda, Mac - Ish, Shane – Triumph? Brian (guest) – modern, IanT (tail end) modern. Ian T

Garry Chippindall has finally got his Triumph Bony going after a full engine & gear box build.

All is standard except for polishing of engine parts, pistons have been coated skirts and crown.

According to Garry he spent weeks trying to get the gear box working properly with very little or no suc-

cess. Garry sort assistance from fellow club member Neville , after attempting to put it together they

again came up with the same problem, Once they got to finally put oil in it amazingly all worked well. It

has since been working great. Garry was very grateful for Nev’s help. Good on you Nev!

Gary is excited to get it out and ride it, Only wishing he had more time, don’t we all? Well done Garry it

looks fantastic!
