Work Based TrainingOur Work Based Training sites provide adults with learning disabilities with time limited work experience and training within a fully functioning business. We offer training in catering, hospitality, horticulture, printing, recycling and packing, enabling the trainees to gain knowledge, skills and confidence over time to enhance their opportunities for employment in the future.
The goods produced are for sale to the general public. Our trainees gain valuable customer
service skills which prepare them for future employment opportunities.
Kerry trains at Roundwood Garden Centre & Café near Braintree, three times a week. Since attending the Work Based Training site she has gained skills in horticulture and has seen a real boost in confidence.
“I love coming to here, it gives me more independence
and I get to see my friends and help customers.”
- Kerry, a customer at Roundwood
ECL Supported Employment Service specialises in assisting working age adults with learning disabilities to secure purposeful, paid employment, from just one hour a week up to full time. We work with both the employee and the employer to find jobs that match skills, experience and individual aspirations with opportunities that recognise customers for their abilities, rather than disabilities, and result in increased self-confidence and contribution to the local community.
We support initially with CV writing, job searches and interview techniques, and coach individuals during the first few weeks of employment on a time limited basis. We support employers with the primary aim of ensuring that employees succeed and develop, completing their job to a high standard.

Outreach Outreach provides tailored one-to-one support giving customers the confidence and independence to continue enjoying life with the reassurance that support and encouragement is always at hand. Customers are assisted to access local facilities, enjoy leisure activities, make and attend appointments and access new interests as well as being supported with day-to-day tasks such as cooking and cleaning.
Home Share
Home Share enables customers to enjoy time with new friends in the safety and comfort of a host carers home. The service brings together small groups of people to enjoy activities, socialise, eat a nutritious meal and access the community in order toreduce social isolation and encourageindependence.
Activities available vary from location to location but include: reminiscence, cookery, games, arts and crafts, quizzes, walks and visits to local attractions.
“I didn’t know I had a voice before I came here, as you sit at home and there’s no-one to talk to.“- Violet, a customer at Charles Dickens Wellbeing & Activity Centre in Chelmsford
We run Wellbeing & Activity Centres across Essex offering day time activities and opportunities for adults with a range of support needs, including: older adults, those with physical health problems or mental illness such as dementia, adults with learning disabilities and those with physical or sensory impairments.
The centres offer a warm welcome with a wide range of activities to support individuals to maintain wellbeing and to maximise independence, enabling increased community involvement.

Reablement & Regaining Independence ServiceReablement is a programme of short-term care designed to help adults regain and maintain their independence following difficulties carrying out daily living activities, perhaps after a period in hospital or spell of ill health. Essex Cares delivers Reablement in Essex as well as in West Sussex, with the Regaining Independence Service.
Reablement can help with things such as:
Building confidence to enable safe transfers including getting up from a chair or in and out of bed.
Providing customers and their carers with safety awareness tips to reduce risks and prevent falls or accidents at home.
Support in finding new ways of dealing with everyday tasks including: food and drink preparation, shopping, organising and planning daily routines, using transport, laundry, household administration and community access.
Personal care tasks including washing, dressing and toileting independently.
Reablement aims to maximise a person’s independence and safety to minimise their need for on-going care and support in the future.
“Your kindness, consideration & expertise were invaluable and very much appreciated at a difficult time. My husband is now recovering thanks to your prompt assistance.“- Wife of a Reablement customer
Equipment & TelecareOur Equipment Service offers one of the country’s leading selections of equipment, aids to daily living, adaptations and telecare that aim to support mobility and safety at home.
With over 4,000 core products available, we make more than 106,000 deliveries and

Our products range from small aids such as perching stools, commodes and pendant alarms, to more specialist equipment including bath lifts, right though to installation of everything from grab rails and raised
toilet seats, to full wet rooms.
Our range of telecare equipment, including personal alarms and sensors,
will give you that extra bit of confidence about living at home independently, ensuring that help can
be alerted when you need it, with monitoring equipment linked to your family or neighbours should anything be required.
Telecare Responder ServiceEssex Cares 24 hour Telecare Responder Service in the Brentwood area enables customers to feel confident, safe and supported whilst at home, using sensors that can be activated at any time.
