Thoughts and considerations for 2015 SCTE San Diego Chapter Technical Sessions. by Bob Weaver
The SCTE San Diego Chapter is working on your 2015 technical session line-up. Below are a few of the topics we have on our want list and currently pursuing speakers: Going All Digital: What is involved in order to transition to an all-digital HFC platform? How will this industry initiative impact our current customers? What are our business possibilities as we decommission our analog carriers & free up spectrum for our competitive edge and strategic opportunities? LTE and Signal Leakage: LTE and its use seem to be growing more and more each day. What are the risks associated with Ingress of LTE into our HFC infrastructure? What is our responsibility as it relates to our signal leakage impact to LTE users and potential risk of harmful signal interference to LTE reception? Smart Homes: Is this future rumor or are WiFi automation devices and such visionary products a consumers “want it now scenario”. Do Cable companies have a leg up on the emergence of this evolving technology? Smart Home, automation and WiFi anything infrastructures are fast lane opportunities, but how will the cable telecommunications industry position their talents in the ready for a potential business victory plan to meet this demand and partner in the consumer market emerging enthusiasm? Ultra High Definition: 4K UHD and 8K UHD: 2160P and 4320P. How it works and what is the projected customer demand. Can we fulfill the expectations of the ultimate delivery of this service? Will there be a business decision at some point in time to sustain our superior standing as a video product provider or not? IPv6: Is IPv6 the new normal? What’s the good, and what’s the not so good? DOCSIS 3.1: Seems that the only way to compete is to go faster with more bandwidth. What does this mean to our existing HFC infrastructure? In the end it will be awesome… getting there will not be a walk in the park. Grounding Compliance: Grounding is necessary, but do we really understand all the advantages and risks? What are the most challenging barriers to full compliance? What are the critical regulatory compliance requirements of today? What we don’t know will indeed hurt us, as well as our equipment. Please let us know what’s on your want list for 2015. Please send your topic requests to: [email protected] or any of our esteemed 2015 SCTE San Diego Chapter Board of Directors.
