[Classically trained from childhood, Spalding gravitated to jazz, her favorite genre. Her music incorporates

elements of classical,pop and hip hop, and has earned her four Grammy Awards.

When she’s not composing or perform-ing, Spalding is a professor of music at Harvard University.
