Donibristle Primary School is one of the first schools in Scotland to get involved with Move to Improve. The Move to Improve package is a Primary School resource, designed by ESP Scotland, to promote high quality Fundamental Movement Skills and structured activity within a playground environment. The resource provides a set of five permanent playground markings, professional development opportunities for teachers and associated resources to facilitate the delivery of playground activities.

Donibristle are thrilled with the positive impact that the Move to Improve package has had on the pupils and are actively using the zone to ensure that every child has the chance to experience high quality physical activity on a daily basis.

Move to Improve at Donibristle Primary School

Developing Fundamental Movement Skills on the Multi-step Column Using the Fast Feet Marking to Enhance Movement Skills

The Concept - Donibristle Primary School’s Completely FREE Design

These new markings have already generated much interest and

activity both during breaks and teaching times for classes.

The CPD proved to be a most motivating and enjoyable experience for all staff, some of whom were initially apprehensive. As a result the positive message was transferred back into the

classroom, creating a good platform on which to launch a new project.Ricky Skelding, Head Teacher

Delivering Opportunities for High Quality Physical Activity with the Ring Step

“Our school was introduced to ESP through a highly regarded professional colleague at Stirling University. An existing strong partnership with Stirling University had elicited our shared passion and professional commitment to children and their physical development. It was evident from the onset that ESP also shared that desire to develop physical aptitude and ability for children. We were therefore delighted to be selected as part of a Scottish research project for ESP.

The company have proved to be attentive, responsive and supportive in a corporate and collective manner. An early meeting with M.D. Andrew Wood clearly conveyed his company values, vision and standards. Andrew’s extensive team, from all divisions of the company, have maintained a high standard of presentation and service – from the sales team to the installation team, and the CPD team to the research team.

Working in partnership with ESP has fast tracked ‘change’ in our school grounds and staff confidence in facilitating playground activity.

From the day of installation, pupil curiosity has developed into creative participation using the Move to Improve zone. It is indeed a delight to see previously passive children taking an interest and having a go! For those naturally more active, they have had fun exploring the physical opportunities that the markings offer.

Although early days, I am pretty sure that all of our pupils are taking advantage of simple equipment which is, without doubt, improving their individual physical stability and coordination. This evidence of immediate impact on our pupils gives great scope for further development of Locomotor skills and physical dexterity.

I look forward to continuing our partnership with ESP, through this research project, to firmly justify and acknowledge the benefits of their equipment as a school grounds resource.”

The Outdoor Curriculum for Primary85% of people 'learn by doing' so ESP teamed up with Rawmarsh SSP to develop a range of products and services to help children do exactly that. The Kinesthetic range takes Maths, English and Science outdoors. The robust products are a physical and mental challenge, providing an enjoyable way to learn outdoors.

The Yoga Zone for Pre-school and PrimaryOur Yoga range allows your children to have the freedom to discover new stories, develop their imagination and provides a number of opportunities to be creative with movement and music. It is also another innovative way of developing those crucial Gross Motor Skills.
