1 Lesson plan for ESP poster workshop Date : 16 / 1/2013 Class level: intermediate and advanced Time required: Two hours Materials needed: Textbooks, tape recorded Skills targeted: reading, listening, speaking and writing. Number of students: 28 (different age and the class is heterogeneous ) Goals: 1 – Ss will be equipped with the skills required for successful selling. Objectives: A - Ss learn selling associated words. B – Ss listen for specific information. C – Ss reflect upon their weaknesses and their strengths and how to work on them. D – Ss write advertisement for a house or a flat. Procedures Warm up Activity (5 m) Students discuss the quotation as a class. Reading Skill (20m) Pre-reading step: (5minutes) 1 – Using their background, students think of the key aspects of the best reps? 2- Inform the students that they are going to learn the skills of selling in today’s lesson. While reading stages : (15m) 1- Students read through the passage and jot down ten common mistakes that sales reps make. 2- Ss read the sentences and circle the best one that best describes the passage? 3- Ss find out the most successful method of communication that identifies the best reps. 4- A - Ss scan the text again to identify the main sales mistake in each paragraph and write it in the table. 5- B – Based on the information in the passage, Ss complete the table with the correct advice for each problem. Speaking skill (25 m) 1 - Ss read the questionnaire and assess their sales skills and their current performance (5 m) 2 – Based on the points they identified on the previous questionnaire, students discuss with a colleague their strengths and weaknesses and how they are going to work on them. (10m) 3- According to the questionnaire, students rank the skills in order of importance. (10 m) Vocabulary and writing skills (55 m) 1 – Students skim the text and identify the three steps to following a yes answer. (5 m) 2 – A - Ss match the underlined words from the passage (1-6) with their meanings (a-f). ( 2m) B – Ss fill in the blanks with words from Ex. 2a. (4 m) C – Now Ss use the words in Ex. 7a to write sentences of their own. (8 m) 3 – Ss mark the sentences given below using T ( true) or F ( false) according to the passage. ( 7m) 4 – a - Ss use the given list of common adjectives used in persuading clients to buy a product and describe in full any products they think are: crisp? real? easy? bright? safe? rich? (10m) b- Ss complete the estate agent’s advertisement with the adjectives in the box. ( 5m)

Listening skill (25m) While - listening stage (10m) 1 - Ss listen to a conversation which takes place with an estate agent and a buyer and answer the questions (1-7), by writing E (for Estate agent) or B (for buyer) in the boxes provided. Post - listening stage (15m)

1- Ss listen again to the segments and think about three particular ideas: a– Location of flats. b- Remodeling flats. c- The cost. Ss think about these three ideas and what they mean to them. They also should discuss with their partner all three ideas as presented by the speakers. Together select one and formulate a combined opinion. Why do they agree? What are additional thoughts about that topic? Then share their opinions with the whole class.
