The year 2012 has come to an end. Let us take a look back and think about what the year has meant for ESN Sweden. So many things have happened so talk-ing about everything would certainly take all day. Let’s instead check out some highlights.

Three new sections joined us this year! First up was ESN SUS at NP Linköping, then ESN Borås at NP Örebro and finally ESN BTH at NP Växjö/Kalmar. I think that’s called a hat trick. The question is: are we happy with that? No we are not, we want more!

We received a lot of great attention from the higher education community last year. You all know the National Agency, Programkontoret, or Universitets- och Högskolerådet as they are now called. We have all but officially been made the representatives of international students by them, and they have showed us great support. Our presence at the national conference Programdagarna firmly put ESN in the consciousness of all the Universities in Sweden, and the invitation to Programdagarna 2013 just landed in my mailbox a few days ago.

Private companies have shown no smaller interest. The Erasmus in Schools initiative really caught the attention of Education First and we look forward to a future cooperation. The fall saw intense discus-sions between ESN Sweden and both Tele2 and IHaveLanded regarding the future of the SIM-card partnership. We chose to stay with Tele2 and we are really looking forward to developing the SIM-card service to our students. Pernod Ricard visited the latest Sea Battle and they were very impressed, and who can blame them. We decided to partner up for the next Sea Battle because, let’s be honest, only ESN can do a Responsible Party for 2,200 students.

And what a development we have seen at the NP! This National Board got its baptism at NP Örebro in April and man was it fun. Having the OC section of the year start you off means riding in a limou-sine to the Sittning, and who wouldn’t get excited about that? We learned so much in Örebro and we were determined to apply it to the next NP. NP Växjö/Kalmar undisputably became the best NP we ever had in Sweden. Not least because it was the first time not a single participant was sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag – welcome to ESN Mr Airmattress! Did I hear someone think: hostel? Patience, we will get there, it’s just a matter of time. And now we are of course taking the lessons from NP Växjö/Kalmar and putting it into the Annual Meeting.

So my fellow ESNers, expect nothing but the best from the future. 2013 will be a great year, happy New Year!

The many different projects of ESN require that the ESN Swe-den board gets some help with

coordinating them. Meet three of our current coordinators of

Social Erasmus, ExchangeAbility and

the ESN Cards!

ESN Swedens Coordinators

My name is Naomi Takomoto and I study handcraft and design at Linköping university. I’ve been a member of ESN Linköping since January 2012 as party coordinator. The time I have spend with ESN work I learned how important it is. As SocialErasmus coordinator I want to achieve that all the ESN Sweden sections are brought together and have the same goal. To make SocialErasmus more active in Sweden. I dream of SocialErasmus being big in Sweden as in other ESN countries. Together we can make it!

My full name is Houman Memaravar. My major is International Sales and Marketing. I was the Public Rela-tions Responsible in ESN Växjö(VIS) since July 2012 but recently moved to Stockholm to start work-ing. I’ve been trying to build networks & connections through my life & I believe ESN is the best opportunity to continue. I am in charge of promoting ESN cards in the country of electronic cards, Sweden. My dream is that with an ESN card, every member can get a special offer in every purchase, everywhere in Sweden.

My name is Amanda (Mandi) Björkman and I’m study-ing media and communications in Linköping. I am fairly new to ESN, I have only been a member of ESN Linkop-ing since July 2012. My position on the board is head of PR and joining the ESN Linköping board was the best decision I have ever made. My goal with the ExchangeAbility project is to make it possible for everyone to go on exchange!

PS: My motto is dream big, achieve big!

Three NPs were held this year, each of them filled with a lot of

fun, productivity and networking.

ESN Sweden would like to thank the OC’s of ESN Linköping,

ESN Örebro, ESN Växjö & ESN Kalmar for their amazing work!

NPs2012

The next NP (our annual meeting!)

is going to be in Linköping again, the dates are set:

28/02/2013 - 03/03/2013 and the registration will open soon.

See you all there!

Np Örebro has been a very successful event, the OC was smart to luxurious limos rent.

But I’m not quite sure what Leo was thinking, when he handed out free vodka shots until we to the bot-

tom of the Drunken Sea were sinking. So, Omar, it is actually Leo whom you should blame,

for ending up puking in the bathroom dressed as a dame.To sum up the plenary days, what have we learned?Well, we now know that in Russia it’s common that

buildings get burned. And would it really be a NP without a guy who a lot of

questions asks?Yes, Oscar, we all know it’s you who has taken upon

you this inquiry task.At the restaurant we brought the ESN spirit with sonds

about filth and dirt, it even got so far, we made Stefano take off his shirt.

And now the weekend sadly is over and done, thank you ESN Örebro for all the fun!!

On December 15th ESN Örebro had its farewell dinner with all the exchange stu-dents of

this semester. It is already time to go unfortunately, but Örebro wanted to say “see you” to all the students in a special way!

A dinner in the best club of Örebro, with libanese buffet and free entrance to the club afterwards.

At the beginning the ESN Örebro Board had a present to everyone, singing and performing St Lucia’s song.

Then, during the dinner, some prices/awards have been given to the students: from “Best Fad-der” to “Miss Universe”, from “Casanova” to “Best killer”!Just right after that the party started and the ex-change students showed to the swedish ones how to rock and to party!

It was a great night for everyone, so that everyone will remember and never forget this time here. And, of course, to make them remember that this is not a goodbye, this is just a “see you”!

Erasmus once, erasmus forever!

/Stefano NataliProject Coordinator ESN Sweden/President ESN Örebro

All good things come to an end! Again it was time to

say good bye to the students that for one semester lived the

Erasmus dream. All sections have some kind

of good bye event, read about ESN Örebros!

From the 8th to the 11th of November the Northern European Platform (NEP) took place in Tallinn, Estonia. The NEP is one of five regional platforms organized by ESN. All ESN countries are divided in 5 regions and ESN Sweden is part of the NEP. The NEP consist of Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia.

Once a year, normally in November, all the sections of those coun-

tries are gathering to hear about the newest updates of the international level, to share experiences and to get to know each other a little bit better. This year we had the pleasure to be hosted by ESN in Tallinn, the beautiful capital of Estonia. The Organization Committee (OC) managed to create a joy-ful event with perfect conditions for the plenaries but also with great entertainment during the nights. We for example had the chance to taste foods and drinks from other countries during the for ESN traditional Eu-

rodinner. Here every country had the chance to present a small sketch which ESN Sweden did with great pleasure and a lot of laughs.

During the plenaries we had really interesting workshops that gave us more knowledge of how to work with our own section but also we shared a lot of good practices with other ESN sections from other ESN countries.

Out of the 16 sections of ESN Sweden 6 were present at the NEP. We would like to encourage every section

member to take the great opportunity to join this amazing event next year and socialize, network and gain new knowledge in an enjoyable environment. The next NEP is going to take place in Tampere, Finland in November 2013. You will get more information when the event is coming closer.

The National Board would like to thank ESN Linköping, ESN Lund, ESN Malmö, ESN Örebro, ESN Stockholm KTH and ESN Växjö for their active participation and for enriching this event with ESN Sweden spirit. We would also like to thank our ESN Sweden Alumni Rasmus Åberg for be-ing part of the Chairing Team. It’s great to see people that have been active part of ESN for years to contribute even after finishing their official ESN career. Many thanks also to ESN Tallinn who organized a great event!

The ESN Sea Battle – Fall 2012 took place from the 18th to 21st of November, 2012. The event had in total 2200 participants from the six officially participating ESN coun-tries: Denmark, Estonia, Latvia,

Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. In total 38 ESN sections participated

in the event. The Sea Battle Coordi-nator of the ESN Sweden National

Board organizes the event.

Sea Battle Fall 2012

The ESN Sea Battle – Fall 2012: An unforgettable experience!

At the fall 2012 edition of the ESN Sea Battle all partici-pants were for the first time given a free ESN Sea Battle t-shirt, and new activities such as ERASMUS Bingo, ESN Quiz and Latin Party were organized.

In order to honor

the 25th anniversary of the ERASMUS Program, the ESN Sea Battle organized several ERASMUS related events such as ERASMUS Bingo, ERASMUS Quiz, ESN Quiz, etc. Thanks to the coopera-tion with Timetravels travel agency, one student also won a free student trip to Russia, organized by Timetravels.

Each night of the event saw the students participating in a different theme party, with the ESN Write-On-Me Party being the most popular one. Over 500 students were also able to

join the organized ESN sightseeing tours in Tallinn and Stockholm.

For the first time ever, prior to the event, a high number of participants also participated in a virtual flash mob on the social media website Facebook.

The Fall 2012 edition of the ESN Sea Battle saw also a record number of international guests, ESN volunteers from other countries, attending the event.

Page 8: ESN Sweden Newsletter - January 2013

Sea Battle Fall 2012

After the ESN Sea Battle an evaluation form of the event was sent out to all participants. The results were great: Over 88% of the participants were Satisfied or More than satisfied with the event. Over 75% thought that the ESN Group Leaders had done a Good or Excellent job during the event. 50% of the participants also expressed that they would definitely attend the event again the following spring. The complete results of the ESN Sea Battle – Fall 2012 Evaluation can now be found on the website of the ESN Sea Battle (http://esnseab-attle.org/evaluation-fall-2012).

We’re more than satisfied with the outcome of the event and the results of the evaluation. There are areas that can still be improved, but in general the event seems to have been a great success full with unforgettable experi-ences!

The communication, both internally and with the participants of the event has been im-proved which leads to better informed participants. Other improvements are already being planned and the preparations for the next edition of the ESN Sea Battle are already in full progress! We’re very much looking forward to the next edition of the ESN Sea Bat-

tle: Spring 2013, which will take place from the 21st to 24th of April, 2013.

We want to thank all Local ESN Sea Battle Coordinators, ESN Group Leaders and partners that made the event possible! You’re simply the best!

See you all at the ESN Sea Battle – Spring 2013!

Happy New Year everyone! My name is Amber Rousse and I am from ESN Växjö. I spent the end of my 2012 at a great meeting in Berlin for the

ComCom (International Communication Com-mittee). Although we have about 40 members in ComCom, 11 of us had the time to make it to Berlin from all around Europe. We stayed in a large modern loft and had our meetings, sleeping, and eating there, so it was very comfortable. It was hard to leave the loft, but we managed to do some sightsee-ing as well.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to meet more ESNers from around Europe, to see just how large the network really is and to exchange ideas. One thing that is special about joining a committee is you get to see how it works in the higher levels of ESN. I am very active in my local section, but the commit-tee involvement gives me a peak into how the entire network is run and organized, and I can connect that information to my section to have a better understanding.

Some of the things we accomplished at this meeting was team work, clarification of ESN visual identity, and a special surprise for the upcoming AGM! However, the best part for me by far was the expansion of my personal and professional network.

Hope to see you in ComCom or another great ESN committee!

her days with a few fellow ComCom members on a

The CND is a statutory meet-ing of ESN and takes place once a year, normally in the beginning of December. During the AGM 2011 in Granada, ESN Örebro managed to get elected as the hosting city. Ever since then the section worked hard to organize such a huge and important

event. And what can we say … they organized an event that participants from over 30 different coun-tries from all around Europe enjoyed to the fullest.

During a typical Swedish sittning we tried to intro-duced ESN to our Swedish culture of singing. In a funny way the sittning turned out to be a concert of different countries presenting their typical songs. It was a fantastic evening with delicious food and awesome entertainment.

But of course the CND took some important decisions as well. Besides updates on all the important international projects, international partners and the international board updates we decided on a budget for 2013. Additionally some important strategical decisions have been taken to further im-prove the network and the work of the international level.

The National Board would like to thank the Organizing Committee (OC) and the Volunteers for their great work. Special thanks goes to Leo Becker who was head of the OC until he moved to Asia, Mag-

nus Åqvist and Stefano Natali from ESN Örebro for organizing the Lion’s share of the event and Kiril Nikolov from ESN Lund for his hard work and for represent-ing the OC throughout the whole event.

/Stefan JahnkeNR ESN Sweden

We are very proud that this year the second most important meet-ing of ESN, after the AGM, the Council of National Delegates (CND) took place in Örebro,

Sweden, in the beginning of De-cember. ESN Örebro created an

amazing event for 110 participants
